How to Choose the Right Canada Goose Jacket for Women in 2024?
The Canada Goose Brand History
Canada Goose was founded under the name Metro Sportswear Limited in 1957 by polish-immigrant Sam Tick. It is a brand that started in a small warehouse in Toronto 60 years ago and has recently grown into a multi million dollar company selling top quality winter apparel all over the world. The Canada Goose designer brand is known for it's high quality and high-performing winter garments, most commonly, their down filled winter coats. They started producing down jackets in the 1970s but they were primarily focused on jackets for rangers and the police. By 1985, they decided to produce jackets under their own brand which at the time was called Snow Goose, not Canada goose.
Under Dani's leadership, Canada Goose catapulted into a multimillion designer brand. And in 2024, it is renowned for dressing everyone-from A-list celebs to aspirational students.
The Features of Canada Goose
Made in Canada
All of their coats are made in Canada from natural materials, some of them including coyote fur trims and down filling to keep you warm through the winter months.
The Logo Badge: The Canada Goose logo badge is a status symbol – it informs passersby that you're a member of the luxury outerwear brand's clientele. The logo itself depicts the North Pole, reflecting Canada Goose's mission to create outerwear to combat the conditions of the coldest climates on the planet.
Responsible Down Standard
Even though the brand is called Canada Goose, the actual filling of their jackets consist of duck down feathers. "We use down because it's recognized as one of the world's best natural insulators," Canada Goose writes on its website. "Our down blends all contain Canadian Hutterite down, which is among the highest quality Canadian down available, enabling us to manufacture lighter jackets without sacrificing warmth."
Down is one of the best natural sources for lightweight insulation. In November 2021, Canada Goose became certified as a brand under the Responsible Down Standard (RDS).
Warmth & Fashionable
The‘light-as-air’ coat is filled with warm down. The puffy coat looks so stylish that even celebrities and athletes boast the brand.
Hand Stitched: Every Canada Goose jacket passes through 13 production stages and just as many hands, all guided by our commitment to uncompromising craftsmanship. From zipper to button and stitch to stitch, every element is carefully chosen and meticulously put into place.
Durable
Transit travelers loved the stitching, fabric, and perceived the coat to be highly durable. 'An investment that will last for years,' many said.
Sustainability
With "humanature”at the core of Canada Goose, the affluent label defines its purpose as keeping humans warm whilst keeping the planet cold through various sustainable initiatives. They use fibers and materials with lower environmental impacts such as recycled, organic and responsibly sourced fabrics.
Canada Goose's sourcing standards prove that the brand does not condone any willful mistreatment of animals.
Lifetime Guarantee
“Warranted to the original owner against defects in material and workmanship for the lifetime of the product.”
The Fiting of Canada Goose
Canada Goose designs their parkas with three different fits: slim, regular and relaxed. Besides, they've also introduced a special fit for those who don't fit into standard sizing, called the Fusion Fit. Once you've had a look at the sizing chart, you can then decide what kind of fit you're looking for.
1. Regular Fit
Canada Goose sizing for their regular fit follows the standard sizing model very closely and will fit similar, if not slightly looser than most parkas. In this case your normal size should fit just right.
Canada Goose's range of regular fit coats are cool, classic and easy to layer – thus, they're ideal for everyday wear.
2. Slim Fit
Canada Goose's selection of slim fit coats have an athletic cut designed to keep the wearer feeling simultaneously warm and flexible. If you like a fit that's very close to the body, with a slimmer silhouette, the slim fit is a good choice.
The slim fit isn't ideal for layering because it's so close to the body, however, most Canada Goose parkas are made warm enough that you don't have to add additional layers.
3. Relaxed Fit
Canada Goose's array of relaxed fit coats are on the larger side as they're created for layering. If you're not looking to layer one of the brand's relaxed fit coats, you may want to consider sizing down.
In the coldest environments, on the coldest days, you’ll want to be able to add some layers. The looseness allows just that; it means you can easily add a good 10°C – 15°C to your jacket. Despite the looseness, the jacket is still made for the body indicated in the sizing chart. If you are debating between two sizes, feel free to order the smaller one.
4. Fusion Fit
Fusion Fit is not petite. Not exactly. Instead, it's what Canada Goose refers to as “Asian Fit”: Fusion Fit sizing was created by analyzing 26 key body measurements and more than 16,000 scans of individuals from Korea, China and Japan.
Unlike a petite fit, which scales down mostly for height, Fusion Fit scales down everywhere. So yeah, you get the higher waist, shorter sleeves, and narrower shoulders. But they have also scaled down for significantly smaller bust and hip measurements, which statistically are more likely to be found among women of Asian descent.

Thermal Experience Index (TEI) - Canada Goose Only!
The Canada Goose Thermal Experience Index (TEI) was created to help you find the warmth you need for the experience you seek. Whether you're summiting a mountain or commuting to work, the TEI will be your guide.
It works using a scale, in which 1 indicates the lightest insulation--shells, lightweight down for active pursuits--and 5 indicates the warmest parkas we make, the kind trusted in the world’s harshest conditions.
TEI 1 – For sporty adventures, good for 5°C / -5°C temperatures
TEI 2 – A versatile jacket; suitable for 0°C / -15°C temperatures
TEI 3 – Everyday use; warm in -10°C / -20°C temperatures
TEI 4 – Good for daily use; suitable for -15°C / -25°C temperatures
TEI 5 – For extreme colds; temperatures below -30°C
Fill Power and Fill Weight
There are two basic terms you need to understand when figuring out warmth. You need to compare the fill power to the overall fill weight. Going with low fill power down will require a higher fill weight.
Fill Power
Fill power measures the loft (quality) of the down. Fill power can be identified by the number that accompanies it. That number usually ranges from 350 to 900, and it indicates how many cubic inches a single ounce of down occupies. Higher fill power down offers more warmth at a lower weight. Quality products usually have a 600+ Fill Power Rating or above.
So, say you want to cover 700 cubic inches with down – you can do that with a single ounce of 700 fill power down, or two ounces of 350 fill power down. And in that case, the latter would actually be warmer.
Canada goose generally uses 750 fill power down in their big parkas and the parkas weight 6+ pounds. They will use 800 fill power in their lighter jackets but these are not heavy fill jackets.
Fill Weight
This is the amount of down that was put into the jacket. Two jackets with the same fill power can offer different warmth. Adding more fill weight can make up for a low fill power (ignoring weight).
Fill power measures the loft and quality of the down. For Example, 600 Fill Power down covers 600 cubic inches of space per oz of down. So higher fill power down will insulate more space without increasing weight.
You can get the same amount of warmth out of low fill power down. Just look for products with a higher fill weight. The added insulation will make up the difference in warmth at a slight increase in weight.
The Sizing of Canada Goose
The measurements below refer to body dimensions. If your measurements span across sizes, for example you measure size large in your waist but medium in arm length, I recommend you select the larger size.

Is Canada Goose the warmest?
Arguably their most famous parka, the Snow Mantra is renowned as the warmest coat on earth. Developed for industrial and commercial work in the coldest regions on the planet, the Snow Mantra will carry you through the harshest of winter months in the harshest of climates.
Is Canada Goose waterproof?
While down is light and warm, it becomes ineffective once wet, but each coat has a water-repellent finish to help protect the down and keep you dry. However, a typical Canada Goose parka is not fully waterproof. Canada Goose parkas were engineered to be among the best winter jackets to withstand extreme cold.
Do Canada Goose use real fur?
They use wild coyote fur sourced from western North America. They require suppliers to confirm to them: They do not tolerate any willful mistreatment, neglect, or malicious harm of animals. They only supply Canada Goose with wild North American coyote fur and that they never use fur from fur farms.
