2025 Longchamp Le Pliage Bag Original vs Fake: How Can You Tell a Real?
1. Overlook of Longchamp Le Pliage Bag
Designed by Philippe Cassegrain in 1993, Longchamp Le Pliage is a light, foldaway bag that has since become a cult object worldwide. It all began when he had the ingenious idea of using nylon destined for the military to create innovative bags that were sturdy yet light.
The Le Pliage line comes in a multitude of fabrics, shapes and sizes, and in many colors each season. The models are adorned with satin-finish nylon, embellished with tone-on-tone leather with a graphic cross grain. Ideal for everyday use, LE PLIAGE is light as a feather, folds away to the size of a paperback, and is durable enough to keep all your essentials close to hand.
2. The Material
1) The signature Le Pliage model by Longchamp consists of two materials: the foldable bag and the smaller inner bag are made of super-light nylon. The pocket flap and the handle are made of leather. Make sure that the material doesn't smell unpleasant like chemicals or glue.
2) The pattern in the leather of original Longchamp bag resembles the diamond look – the lines are relatively straight and diagonal to each other. In the case of a fake, the texture of the leather pattern is rather uneven or bumpy or even completely devoid of structure.
3) An authentic Les Pliage handbag will have a matte finish and the material will be very lightweight and crisp. A fake Les Pliage handbag will appear shiny and the material will be thicker in feel and appearance.
3. The Logo and the Leather Flap
1) An authentic bag has a jockey logo embossed on both the leather AND the snap. The logo is perfectly centered and the jockey and horse's head are pointing to the left. If there is no logo at all, beware! There is no_ line underneath, and if you look at the back side of the flap there will be a mark where the logo is raised.
2) In addition to the logo on the leather flap, you can also find the jockey in the center on the shutter button, as well as the inscription “Longchamp 1984”. The snap should read "ORIGINAL PRYM 6/4B". In 2013, the snap on the backside of these new bags have "LONGCHAMP" written twice, but they are still being produced with the ORIGINAL PRYM 6/4B as well.
3) Pay attention to the back of the flap, because you can quickly find a fake Longchamp bag. If the bag is gefaked, the back of the leather flap is usually completely smooth or very, very frayed.

4. The Longchamp Serial Number
1) Look at the serial number on the white tag inside the bag and make sure it matches the serial number on the plastic bag that covers all new Longchamp bags. In addition, the tag should read “AA” (Made in France), “AE” (Made in China) or “AB” (Made in Tunisia).
2) The fake LC shows an incorrect style number and color code. You can also see that the nylon material used on the authentic LC has matte finish and it barely reflects light. This can't be said on the fake LC because it is very shiny, easily reflects the light and very smooth.
5. Fabric and Lining
1) Bags should have crisp seams, and perhaps creases from the original folding. Your bag should fold nicely and the two parts of the snap meet easily. The fabric on fakes is too shiny and texture is much smoother compared with real.
2) Inside, the plastic coating that lines the bag feels like plastic but not rubbery. For pastel bags (light blue, pink, so on), lining should be WHITE, not same color as outside. The tan fake below is lined in tan, when it should be white. Dark colors are lined with black or brown.
6. The Zipper & Zipper Pull
1) Longchamp Pliages have round logo zipper pulls, which can be gold or pewter depending on what shape the bag is. For the Short-handled totes in Medium, Large, and Extra Large (i.e: Type “M”, Type “L”, and Type “XL”), the zipper pulls are not gold, but are pewter in color (“gunmetal”). The zipper teeth are made from durable plastic.
2) As with all Longchamp zipper pulls, it features the word Longchamp and the date 1948 along with the famous logo- jockey and horse. The real one is extremely detailed, and on the fake the bodies of the jockey and the horse blend together. Longchamp currently use YKK zippers, and you can see the letters on the zipper above.
3) The brand zipper toggle should have weight to it. The fakes will have a cheap light metal or plastic and typically peel. Also, all zippers and snaps should glide and open close with ease. Fakes will stick and the snaps will feel like you're about to break the bag.
8. The Handles
1) Real le pliages will have a heavy thick leather handle. The handles are basically thick leather folded in two, with nothing in between. If the tote is new, the handles are rather stiff, but with prolonged use, it becomes “soft”.
2) The handles are pretty flat, while the fake LC has slightly rounded handles. Fakes tend to have cheap light leather, or straight plastic. The fakes also get a whitish grey tinge on the handle where the real does not.
3) The diamond pattern is apparent on the handles of the authentic LC while the handle of the fake LC is very smooth to the touch. You'll also notice that color of the stitching is almost the same.
4) An important feature of a real longchamp is the color of the side edge of the handles. This is always black or dark brown in an original, but never light brown or in any other color.
9. Size and Embossing
1) Although Longchamp's Le Pliage model has been kept very minimalist, you shouldn't forget the back of the bag. Because the back of the leather flap of the Le Pliage model is embossed differently depending on the size and model. On the one hand there are the following sizes of the Le Pliage by Longchamp:
Type S: Short handles and small bags ;
Type M: Short handles and medium bags ;
Type L: Short handles and large bags (also suitable as travel bags) ;
Type XL: Short handles and very large bags (also suitable as travel bags) ;
Type Shopping: Long handles as well as small (S) or medium (M) pocket.
These sizes of Le Pliage just mentioned should either be marked as “LONGCHAMP E PLIAGE” SHOPPING “- MODÈLE DÉPOSE” or as “LONGCHAMP E PLIAGE TYPE” M “- MODÈLE DÉPOSÉ” – depending on the variant (and size) of the Bag.
2) Pay attention to the correct spelling, because especially with the tie rope or the accents “mistakes” can creep in with fakes. Make sure to check whether the first accent above the “E” points to the lower right and the second and third accent points above the “E” to the upper right. Older versions of the Le Pliage model may be modified.
