Lululemon Align Leggings vs. Wunder Train vs. Wunder Under vs. Fast and Free: Differences and Reviews 2024

Lululemon Align Leggings vs. Wunder Train vs. Wunder Under vs. Fast and Free: Differences and Reviews 2024

    • Although they’re far from the cheapest running leggings on the market, Lululemon can be found on the legs of runners and gym-goers everywhere, and for good reason. Whether you’re searching for leggings for CrossFit, running, or simply lounging, Lululemon has options for every activity. But year after year, Lululemon’s Align Pant, Wunder Train, Wunder Under and Fast and Free remain among Lululemon’s four bestselling legging styles. So what is the difference between the different lululemon leggings? Which lululemon leggings are the most popular? Or what is the difference between Wunder Train and Align? Which Lululemon leggings is right for you? That can be a hard question to answer so we’re going to review four Lululemon leggings to help you decide which is right for you.

What About Lululemon Leggings?

Lululemon sells athletic wear including tops, yoga pants – a product that the company invented, shorts, sweaters, jackets and undergarments, as well as hair accessories, bags, yoga mats, water bottles, and personal care products such as deodorant and dry shampoo. Lululemon trademarked its original fabric, Luon, which included a higher-than-average amount of nylon microfiber, in 2005. Since then, the company has produced several different types of fabrics, including compression and moisture-wicking designs.

Lululemon is primarily known for their leggings, which first made the brand popular. As of January 2022, there are over 500 Lululemon stores around the world, many of which include a yoga studio, fitness concierge and/or communal spaces.

If you’re unfamiliar with Lululemon’s colorful workout clothes, the brand offers a range of workout leggings, including the most popular ones like the Fast and Free, Align (which can double as everyday wear, thanks to their signature soft fabric), and Wunder Under (for higher-intensity workouts). But, never mind the technical fabrics or high-performance cuts—all it takes is slipping into a pair of Aligns to concede that, yes, they’re exceptional as running tights, yoga pants, and more.

  • Lululemon Align Leggings

About Lululemon Align

By far the most popular pair of lululemon leggings, the Align leggings are designed for yoga, and made from the brand’s Nulu fabric, which is buttery soft against the skin. The buttery-soft, zero-dig leggings have little to no compression, making them feel like second skin and perfect for light workouts or sitting at home working all day.

We’ve worn these leggings for yoga classes, Pilates, barre, walking the dog, and even when sitting at our desk, and found them to be extremely comfortable. The high waistband sits above the belly button for a supportive fit and lies flat for a flattering fit underneath workout tops and jumpers. They also come in a variety of silhouettes, inseams, rises, and styles, as well as colorways, textures, and patterns. So you’re bound to find something to suit.

Fast Fact

Best For: Pilates, yoga, barre and lounging

Material: nulu (nylon/Lycra blend)

Size Range: 0 to 20

Length23",25", 28", 31"

Design & Style

According to Lululemon, the Align Pant was designed for yoga with its buttery soft, weightless, Nulu fabric, and high waist. Think of them as the all-encompassing basic yoga pant.

What started as just one option (to my knowledge, at least) has expanded to various styles thanks to the popularity of the Nulu fabric. Some of these styles and inseams include:

  1. crop (23″ inseam)

  2. ankle (25″ inseam)

  3. long if you’re a shortie like me (28″ inseam)

  4. shorts of various lengths

  5. jogger

  6. super high rise options

  7. and even a few bras in the same super soft material.

Quality & Durability

Nulu fabric sets the lululemon Align Pant apart with sweat-wicking yarns, engineered stretch, and a famous, buttery-soft feel..And a high-rise waistband keeps you covered during forward folds and downward dogs.

While they are some of the most comfortable leggings out there, they won’t suit everyone. Designed for low-impact workouts, the Nulu fabric is made to be comfy, so doesn’t have the same sweat-wicking properties as some of the other leggings. Aligns are more prone to pilling than other leggings with different fabric. So if you’re a yogi, you won’t find a softer pair of leggings to practice in, but don’t wear these for a HIIT class.

Lululemon Align Leggings Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Made with the brand’s proprietary Nulu fabric.

  • Soft, brushed handfeel.

  • The most stretchy and comfortable — not compressive.

  • Wide waistband with a slim hidden pocket (ideal for slim items like cards).

  • Supportive in practice.

  • Designed for low-impact workouts.

  • Comfy for both exercise and everyday wear.

  • Fit is true to size, but due to the super-stretchy fabric, I would advise sizing down if you’re in between.

  • They don’t dig into your body or cut off your circulation.

  • The waistband tends to slide down in certain yoga and pilates positions, but nothing major.

  • Not suitable if you’re looking for a sculpted effect (no compression).

  • More prone to pilling after multiple washes than other Lululemon fabrics, according to reviews.

  • Attract lint and pet hair more than the Wunder Train fabric.

Lululemon Align Leggings Price

Aligns prices are about $98-$128. This is pretty average for Lululemon and other high-end activewear companies.

  1. lululemon Align High-Rise Pant:$98 - $118

  2. lululemon Align High-Rise Pant with Pockets:$128

  3. lululemon Align™ High-Rise Ribbed Pant:$118

  • Lululemon Wunder Train Leggings

About Lululemon Wunder Train

The Wunder Trains are a must-have for anyone who enjoys weightlifting or high-intensity workouts. They have four-way stretch with Lycra, so they're nice and stretchy, but they offer a substantial bit of hold in how they fit your body. The material is still soft, but there's more of a nylon feel to it where it has a little slip to it.

They help keep your body cool while you work out because of how breathable they are (they wick sweat and have a thinner density). As a bonus, there's a drawstring waist cord and a hidden pocket inside the waistband to hold your keys or a couple of cards.

If you’re looking for a pair of supportive leggings to wear for high-impact classes, these are an excellent choice.

Fast Fact

Best For: weightlifting, interval training, running, spinning

Material: everlux (nylon/Lycra blend)

Size Range: 0 to 20

Length:23",25", 28", 31"

Design & Style

The Wunder Train leggings are designed for high-impact training and are made from Lululemon’s Everlux fabric which is breathable, sweat-wicking and fast-drying. It’s still soft against the skin and feels cool to the touch, but not as soft as the Nulu fabric of the Align leggings. The Wunder Train leggings have a drawcord waistband that allows you to pull the leggings tight against your stomach as you squat, lunge and lift. The waistband sits high on the body—above my bellybutton—for a flattering, supportive fit.

These have a small, drop-in pocket on the waistband for your keys and credit card. The leggings come in a number of different colors and patterns. They also come in 4 lengths— 23in, 25in, 28in and 31in—to suit women of all heights.

Quality & Durability

These are made from lululemon’s quickest drying fabric, they don’t show sweat and I love the buttery soft feel. They actually feel VERY similar to the align legging BUT they’re made with luxtreme fabric meaning you can def get sweaty in them.

They're comfortable and effective for workouts—not so much for relaxing. There's not much give in the waistband to allow your midsection to relax, so when you're sitting on the couch they tend to dig into your belly in a not-so-flattering (or comfy) way.

Lululemon Wunder Train Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Slightly thicker fabric but still breathable and lightweight.

  • Very quick-drying and sweat-wicking fabric that keeps you not only dry but also cools you down.

  • Fabric pulls sweat away from the body to reduce sweat marks and wet spots, which reduces lingering odors and gives you a bit more time to change clothes post-workout.

  • Fabric retains shape for hours, and the waistband does not roll down.

  • Light compression that doesn’t cut off circulation or feel restricting.

Less stretch so they run smaller than Align’s pants, so if you are in between sizes, size up.

Not as soft as the Align range.

Not available in as many colorways and variations as the Align range.

Lululemon Wunder Train Leggings Price

Wunder Train leggings come in 23″, 25″, 28″ and 31″ and range from $98 to $128. They are pricey, but something you can get marked down

  1. Wunder Train High-Rise Tight:$98 - $118

  2. Wunder Train Contour Fit High-Rise Tight:$98

  3. Wunder Train Tight With Pocket:$128

  • Lululemon Wunder Under Leggings

About Lululemon Wunder Under

Lululemon Wunder Unders are similar to Aligns in almost all ways except for the fabric. However, as Wunder Under wearers have complained about these leggings sliding down during workouts, a waistband drawcord felt like the obvious solution. And so its successor, the Wunder Train legging was born!

Wunder Unders are made using Lululemon’s Luxtreme fabric (69% Nylon and 31% Lycra elastane) which boasts a sweat-wicking and breathable material. The added Lycra fibre gives these leggings great stretch capability and allows them to retain their shape.Wunder Trains are made using Lulu’s Everlux fabric (77% Nylon and 23% Lycra elastane).

Another difference between the discontinued Wunder Under style and Wunder Train is the presence of a waistband drawcord.

From experience, I definitely have to agree with the popular opinion that Wunder Unders needed to be pulled up and adjusted during workouts (especially high-intensity ones). But the presence of a waistband drawcord helps keep your leggings in place no matter how hard you’re pushing yourself.

Fast Fact

Best For: Yoga, low-impact classes, and all the ways you love to move

Material: Luxtreme(Nylon, Elastane)

Size Range: 0 to 20

Length 21",23",25", 28"

Design & Style

Aligns were designed for yoga while Wunder Unders were developed for yoga and more rigorous training.

And Align leggings are designed with minimal seams for a cleaner look – this also makes them a more versatile pair of pants. Wunder Under leggings are a more traditional sports pant though and have more obvious seams.

Lululemon Wunder Unders were made in 4 lengths:

  1. Cropped: 21″, 23″

  2. Full-length: 25″, 28″

These are great gor yoga, pilates, weight training, or even just everyday life. They are really comfortable and breathable! Honestly the wunder unders are a great all around tight for almost any workout.

Quality & Durability

Lululemon Aligns are made using Lulu’s Nulu fabric (81% Nylon and 19% Lycra elastane) while Wunder Unders come in two varieties: Luxtreme fabric (69% Nylon and 31% Lycra elastane) or Luon fabric (82% Nylon, 18% Lycra elastane).

We find that they also slide down and need to be more frequently adjusted than other Lululemon leggings – during both everyday wear and workouts (as low impact as weight lifting).

Unless you plan on wearing your Luxtreme leggings exclusively for workouts (and are okay with the constant adjustments), we don’t recommend buying them.

Lululemon Wunder Under Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Might be the most adaptable garment in the lululemon catalogue

  • Flow, train, or restore in the most versatile tight.

  • Redesigned waistband has a snug, comfortable fit that stays put (and won't roll down) as you move.

  • Tuck your key or card in the flat back drop-in pocket on the waistband for distraction-free storage.

  • Comfortable wide waistband won't dig in, while the updated curved seamlines give a dynamic, modern look.

  • Wunder Unders  are on the warmer side so not ideal for outside activities in the summer.

  • The Wunder Unders are seamless, have a thick waist band, and super flattering.

Lululemon Wunder Under Leggings Price

At $59(sale price)-$92,the lululemon Wunder Under, regardless of which material or waistline you get, is an investment, but is definitely a pant where you will get the most from your dollar due to its versatility.

  • Lululemon Fast and Free Leggings

About Lululemon Fast and Free

Lululemon Fast and Free is a super-lightweight, comfortable pair of leggings with an abundance of pockets to suit every runner. The leggings are made from Lululemon’s Nulux fabric, which is lightweight and wicks sweat away from the body quickly.

The main selling point with the Fast and Free leggings, in our opinion, is the range of pockets. The leggings have two large drop-in pockets on the leg, which were big enough to hold the iPhone 11, as well as some gels and running gloves. There are also five different pockets on the waistband for your keys, lip balm, and all your other running essentials.

The waistband sits just above the belly button for a good amount of coverage, and there’s a drawcord, which allows you to pull the waistband tight against your stomach during use.

The downside of these leggings is that the thin material doesn’t feel as compressive or supportive as older versions of the Fast and Frees, or leggings like the Wunder Train. They are definitely lightweight leggings, so if you like a more supportive fit or prefer thicker leggings in colder months, these might not be for you.

Fast Fact

Best For: Designed for Running

Material: Nulux fabric,Added Lycra fibre for stretch and shape retention

Size Range: 0 to 20

Length:  23",25", 28"

Design & Style

The Fast and Free leggings are designed for running and have all the little extras to make a runner’s life easier. There are drop-in pockets on both legs, big enough for a smartphone, running gels and running gloves in the winter and three drop-in pockets on the waistband for smaller essentials. The leggings are made from the brand’s Nulux fabric, which is extremely lightweight and sweat-wicking and, unlike other expensive leggings on the market, you don’t need to worry about these going see-through when you wear them in the gym.

The Fast and Free leggings have been redesigned to remove the seams on the inner thighs for a more comfortable and chafe-free fit. They’ve also got the same high drawcord waistband we’ve come to expect from Lululemon—the top of the waist sat above our bellybutton, and we found the fit flattering.

They come in a wide range of colors and patterns, in three leg lengths—23in, 25in, and 28in. There’s also a thicker, fleece version for winter running and a 19in cropped capri version for the summer.

Quality & Durability

The leggings are made from Lululemon’s Nulux fabric, which is lightweight and wicks sweat away from the body quickly. We were never left feeling overly soggy at the end of a run wearing these leggings, although if you’re running in really cold weather, you might find you need more of a thermal tight to keep you warm.

The fabric is soft against the skin, cool to the touch, and never chafed, no matter what conditions we threw at it. If you’re a runner who hates shorts, these leggings will carry you through most seasons.

Lululemon Fast and Free Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Technical material (‘Nulux’) is breathable, sweat-wicking, has four-way stretch, doesn’t pick up lint or pill, and passes the ‘squat test’

  • As the name suggests – they’re high-rise and will sit above most people’s belly button

  • Seam-free inner thighs

  • Two side pockets on the thighs, that will fit your phone or other small essentials, plus three small pockets on the waistband (older versions have five small pockets)

  • Reflective details on the lower leg and back of the thigh

  • Continuous drawcord on the waist

  • They’re not cheap

  • There are  some features tiny flecks of reflective details at the ankle

  • The Fast and Free tights feature a double-rounded hem you’d see on a highly technical cycling short, which isn’t very flattering and seems to shorten the leg.

Lululemon Fast and Free Leggings Price

As mentioned above, these tights cost $128 (for the 25 and 28 inch lengths) and $118 for the 23 inch crop length.

  1. 23 inch ($118) – the shortest, ‘crop’ style that will, for most women, sit part-way up your shin/calf.

  2. 25 inch ($128)  – what I’d describe as the regular length, as pictured in the photos throughout this review.

  3. 28 inch ($128) – long, sits around the ankle bone.

Conclusion:Which Lululemon Leggings Should You Buy?

Lululemon Align

With nearly 9,000 five-star reviews, these are hands down lululemon’s most popular leggings. That said, a lot of people prefer to wear them as everyday loungewear because of their signature buttery-soft material and flattering fit. The Nulu material is lightweight, and provides excellent flexibility for comfy day-to-day lounging and low-intensity workouts alike.

You can wear these leggings for a variety of classes including barre, spinning, running, weight lifting, Pilates and yoga, and they were the most ideal for yoga, Pilates and barre (and of course lounging around).

Overall, if you’re looking for comfort, softness, and a second-skin feel, you should choose the Align High-Rise Pants.

Lululemon Wunder Train

The main difference between the Wunder Train Tights and the Align Pants is the fabric composition, but there are several differences between the two styles.

The Wunder Trains are a must-have for anyone who enjoys weightlifting or high-intensity workouts. They have four-way stretch with Lycra, so they're nice and stretchy, but they offer a substantial bit of hold in how they fit your body.

If you’re looking for leggings that will keep you cool and collected during sweaty workouts—and that will stay put through squats, burpees, and deadlifts galore—go with the Wunder Train Tights.

Lululemon Wunder Under

Lululemon Wunder Under is made from smooth cover fabric. It is supportive and designed for yoga/pilates etc. It has a hidden pocket on the back and curved seam detail.

The Wunder Under tights hug your body snugly, feeling just as velvety soft as the Align collection but with a bit more hold, perfect for any movement you’re up to. They’re quick-drying, sweat-wicking, and offer that essential four-way stretch, so you can move freely and comfortably.

The Wunder Unders are a highly underrated style that probably deserves more attention. Why? Out of the three, these are the best all-around legging to suit a variety of low to high impact workouts — plus they are very flattering. They're perfect for barre, running, or just looking awesome sitting on the couch.

Lululemon Fast and Free

Finding a pair of leggings that actually stays put while you are working your butt off is no small feat. The Lululemon Fast and Free  leggings' waistband is made to fit tight and has a built-in drawstring that you can adjust if needed. They're designed to be lightweight and breathable to keep you cool during tough workouts so you aren't drenched in sweat by the end.

It is, however, worth noting that if you already own an older version of the Fast and Free tights, the updated style is a little different, in a number of fairly subtle ways such as sizing, waist rise and overall fit.

And Fast and Free pants have the longest life span out of Aligns and Wunder Unders because they don't pill. Fast and Free pants are worth the investment if maintained correctly and used for the intended purpose.

FAQs

1.What are the most popular Lululemon leggings in 2024?

The Lululemon Align leggings have been, and continue to be, the most popular pair of leggings the brand makes. This is down to the unrivalled comfort, the high waistband, and the different leg lengths on offer to suit women of all sizes.

2.Which are the best Lululemon leggings for petite gym-goers?

Most of the Lululemon leggings mentioned above come in a number of different leg lengths to suit gym-goers of all heights. If you're petite, look for a 23 or 25-inch leg length, which should sit on your ankle and avoid you having to fold the leggings up.

3.Should I buy the Lululemon Align or the Wunder Under?

This is a tough one to answer! The Lululemon Align is wonderfully comfortable and buttery soft, but for this reason, is best suited to lower-impact exercises, like yoga or Pilates.

The Wunder Under is made from lululemon's luxtreme fabric, which is far more sweat wicking and fast drying, making it a more versatile choice.

4.Is it better to size up or down in Lululemon leggings?

As a general rule, consider sizing up in more compressive styles, stick to your true size in styles with medium compression, and consider sizing down in styles with little compression.

5.How long is 28 leggings?

The 28" length is intended to sit at your ankle.

6.How to wash the Lululemon leggings?

Do what the care instructions say, which is to turn them inside-out, machine-wash cold with similar colors, and tumble-dry low. They’ll survive with a cotton t-shirt or undies but NEVER EVER EVER wash them in the same load as towels or anything with zippers.

If you opt to tumble-dry the leggings, avoid doing so with rough, heavy fabrics like towels. This can increase the chance of pilling and can also cause the leggings to wear out faster.DO NOT use dryer sheets or anything else that could clog the fabric.
