  • What is the difference between Coach and Coach Outlet?

First of all, the Coach Outlet products are also genuine products. The Coach Outlet/Coach Factory is a shopping mecca with super low price and high cost performance. The Coach Retail, or counter's items , are responsible for the brand's image and quality. All the latest products of the brand are  the first to be sold in the Coach Retail counters. And they are mostly concentrated in the downtown area and major department stores.

1. Coach vs Coach Outlet Price

The Price Range

Coach prices are generally higher than Coach outlets. For example, Coach's bags are priced from $75-$696 on offiical website; while Outlets are priced from $50-$299.

The Coach Factory items usually have another percentage discount on top of the marked down-price. There are plenty of times that they have 30% off instead of the usual 20%. So, you should always buy when that the items are marked down 30% versus 20%, to save additional money. You can sign up for email notifications at checkout so you will know ahead of time when to go.

The Price Tag

First clue lies on the price tags - the regular Coach handbags have a different model number on the price tag than the outlet handbags, which have an "F" in the number.

2. Coach vs Coach Outlet Logo

Many people said that the brand LOGO is different between the Coach counter models and the Coach Outlet models.  For the Coach Outlet line, it has just the word "Coach", whereas the logo on regular bags has a picture of a "Coach" and carriage as well.  But in fact, these two forms of LOGO will appear on Coach Outlet and Coach Retail.  However, the Coach Outlet models use word of Coach more, and the counter models generally have carriages image.

3. Coach vs Coach Outlet Design

The advantage of the Coach Retail lies in the "new trend", which shows the brand's latest and most proud design and quality. Coach Boutiques have more selection of handbags and other items in an array of colours and designs.

On the other hand, Coach Factory Outlets have collections specially made for Factory (MFF) outlets, such as the Signature Collection, which designs are much simpler and contains less bling. The Coach Outlet is pursuing "price-performance ratio", which is suitable for people who like this brand but have limited budget. Of course, sometimes there will be Coach Retail items transferred to Outlet for sale after the season. In fact, most of the styles of the two do not overlap.

4. Coach vs Coach Outlet Style Numbers

In fact, the most intuitive way is to look at the coding. COACH Boutique items are full-priced (FP), and in other words, more expensive. Their style numbers usually begings pure numerically, such as Style No. 19611, etc.

And most of the product codes of Coach Outlets start with F, which stands for Factory, meaning that the bag was made specifically for a Coach factory outlet, and there are also several digit combinations behind them, such as F10496, etc. These style numbers are printed on the creed of all COACH handbags.

Sometimes factory outlets would also carry FP overstock items, and these FP items are usually are a season old before they arrive at factory stores. Bags that are sold at the outlet but do not contain this code were not made specifically for the factory outlet.

5. Coach vs Coach Outlet Quality (Materiral & Leather)

Coach counters and outlets in the United States are two different design and production lines, and the materials selected are also different.

The Coach boutique items are made of expensive top-layer cow leather, which is delicate and durable, and the workmanship will be more exquisite; the outlets are mostly made of canvas (PVC) and ordinary cowhide, and the price is affordable.

6.  Coach vs Coach Outlet Packaging

The best distinction is the difference in packaging. Coach bags for counter are fully packaged, basically including transparent plastic bags and dust-proof bags. Free gift packaging can also be requested. Whether for personal use or as a gift, it can be high-end and elegant.

As for Coach outlets, the packaging is relatively simple, usually just a plastic bag. Even the models that are sold from the counters to the open shelves of Outlet, do not necessarily have a complete package.

Regardless of where your Coach handbags comes from, they are provided with a care card and price tag, unless stated otherwise.

7. Purchase Restrictions of Coach Factory

There are limits on how many bags of the same style you can buy in Coach Factory. Some people want to buy three or more of the same style, but they may run into a limit the store has set. If you are buying for many different people, you have to go with several other people, because the limit is per person.

8. Where are Coach Bags Made?

Most of COACH handbags now are made in China or Vietnam. Even FP items from Coach Boutiques are mostly made in China, and they proudly printed this fact in the creeds.

  • Conclusion

Having said that, Coach Outlet vs. Coach Retail, which is better? The style and quality of Outlet has no advantage at all except for the good price. But Coach Outlet has made great leaps in recent years, both in terms of style and quality. Many leather choices are gradually getting closer to retails. In fact, I prefer to regard Coach Outlet as secondary line of the Coach brand. The same style can be bought at a much lower price in Outlet, which is very worthwhile in itself.

If you love this brand, you can choose Coach items. After all, they are displaying the latest designs and styles of the brand, and there are more choices. Although the price will still be much higher than Coach Outlet, I think it's a great value, especially some high-end models can only be experienced in Coach counters!
