Mint Mobile Review
Founded in 2016, Mint Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that offers prepaid wireless plans. Its wide variety of service offerings include international calling and roaming, and Wi-Fi calling and texting. Now Mint Mobile has been recognized within the industry and has gained a positive reputation. Mint Mobile runs on T-Mobile’s network and utilizes its cell phone towers, including 5G at no extra charge. So, it can also be a perfect choice if you would like to test T-Mobile’s coverage before you move to their network.
As it stands heading into 2024, Mint Mobile currently offers the most value out of any cell phone carrier on the market. As a GSM, Mint Mobile allows you to use their service with most of the unlocked cellphones. However, the phone has to be compatible with their network and 5G-capable if you will be interested to work with the fifth-generation network.
Mint’s plans are some of the most affordable in the industry. You can think of them like the Costco of prepaid carriers. The more you buy, or in this case the longer you sign up for, the better overall price you get on your cell service.

Mint Mobile Plans and Pricing
Mint Mobile offers four main plans that work out to as low as $15 a month, but there isn’t actually a monthly plan. You must buy plans for either three, six or 12 months at a time.
All plans come with unlimited text and talk, so you will never have to pay anything extra for using those features. However, the difference in pricing between the plans comes down to how much data you plan on using each month.
4GB | 10GB | 15GB | Unlimited | |
3 months | $15/mo | $20/mo | $25/mo | $30/mo |
6 months | $20/mo | $25/mo | $35/mo | $35/mo |
12 months | $15/mo | $20/mo | $25/mo | $30/mo |
The longer the package, the lower the monthly rate. Your first three months are charged at the lowest rate for your plan, after which you can renew with any of the packages at the higher renewal rate. If you plan on staying with Mint for a long time, renewing at the 12-month rate will save you the most money—but you’ll also be paying for all 12 months upfront.
Mint Mobile now also offer family plans starting at $15/mo per line(Minimum of 2 lines | Maximum of 5 lines).

Cricket Wireless Review
Cricket wireless is one of the Biggest Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in the country. It was founded in Chicago in 1999. They are currently headquartered in Atlanta, GA, and they have 5,000 retail stores nationwide.
Cricket Wireless is an affordable MVNO that runs on the broad coverage of the AT&T network. As such it has access to a robust network in all 50 states and uses the carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G towers, allegedly covering more of the U.S. than several competitors. You can use third-party coverage throughout southern Canada, and Cricket has veins of LTE coverage throughout Mexico.
The company is also praised for its healthy marketing budget and chances to save money all year round. ricket Wireless comes with cheap plans that are mostly ideal for people who have high internet needs but who are on a budget.

Cricket Plans and Pricing
When it comes to plans, Cricket Wireless comes with quite a number for both individual and family use. The service is prepaid. And all plans include unlimited calling and texting, with various data (and service) options of 5 GB, 10 GB, unlimited, and unlimited with 15 GB of mobile hotspot data. This allows for people to pick that which suits them best, and they are distributed as below:
Plan | 1 line | 2 lines | 3 lines | 4 lines | 5 lines |
5 GB Plan | $30/mo | $30 per line/mo. | $30 per line/mo. | $30 per line/mo. | $30 per line/mo. |
10 GB Plan | $40/mo | $35 per line/mo. | $30 per line/mo. | $28 per line/mo. | $26 per line/mo. |
Unlimited Plan | $55/mo | $40 per line/mo. | $30 per line/mo. | $25 per line/mo. | $25 per line/mo. |
Unlimited + 15 GB Mobile Plan | $60/mo | $45 per line/mo. | $37 per line/mo. | $33 per line/mo. | $32 per line/mo. |
As you can see, Cricket’s rate plans for a single line of service aren’t exactly cheap. But Cricket becomes a better value when additional lines are added and auto pay discounts are applied. The catch is in the data speeds. So those minimal 5GB and 10GB plans, and even the $55 plan, will cap you at 8Mbps LTE.

Visible Review
Verizon launched its startup Visible, a prepaid cell phone carrier, in 2018. The telecommunications company created Visible to provide customers with an unlimited, affordable option with no annual contract. Visible functions as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO),using Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G Network. It gives you unlimited talk, text, and data plus access to the nation's best coverage, all at a fraction of the price of Verizon, its parent company.
Visible has no physical stores. If you have a supported device, the way you sign up for Visible is through their mobile application or online website. Once you sign up, everything you do with Visible is through their application. You sign up for the service, order a SIM card, pay for your plan, manage your account, and get support. You can even purchase a new phone.

Mint Mobile vs. Cricket vs. Visible: Comparison Side by Side
1. Coverage
Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network to provide coverage and data, and lucky for us, T-Mobile offers one of the best networks in the country. T-Mobile covers about 94% of the country.Chances are you’ll have coverage, but there are a few pockets where signal can get spotty—particularly in the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West region.
Cricket uses the AT&T network, which will work well for the majority of Americans.
Verizon powers Visible, and over the years, Verizon's established itself as having the best coverage across the United States compared to every other carrier out there. Especially if you live in a rural area, chances are Verizon's got your back where other networks drop the ball.
Visible’s Verizon-powered network will get you the very best coverage in the nation. You’ll have more bars in more areas than your buddies on AT&T or T-Mobile. It’s a great option for those who travel a lot or live in rural areas.
Meanwhile, Mint’s T-Mobile-powered network offers up the largest 5G infrastructure and the fastest 4G speeds in the industry. It’s a great network for those who live in metropolitan areas and do a lot of work or gaming on their phones.
Coverage can vary depending on your location. Start by entering your address and checking the coverage maps on websites:
2. Plans and Pricing
Cricket Wireless offers the most expensive unlimited plan of the three. When choosing the carrier’s unlimited plan, you will have to pay $10 more than at two other service providers, or $5 more if you enroll for AutoPay. But they do offer good group discounts.
If you want a great deal on a lot of data and some of the best cell phone plans today. Visible is the easy choice and offers an insane amount of value for just $30 each month if you need the best possible coverage and have one of few supported Android phones. However, Mint Mobile is the better fit if you don't have a phone that works on Visible and already have good coverage with T-Mobile's network. Just be prepared to spend more money upfront.
3.Phone options
Mint Mobile,Cricket and Visible offer customers the option to either buy a new phone or bring a compatible device. The three MVNOsare compatible with many of today’s big-name cell phones.
In terms of cellular technology, Visible relies on Verizon’s network, which uses a CDMA channel. On the other hand, T-Mobile usually operates on GSM technology. So, it should be easy to find a device compatible with Mint since AT&T runs on a GSM channel as well. However, it’s not all devices will work as every network has its unique bands and frequencies.
Check your phone compatibility below:
Note, the latest 4G LTE (different from 4G) and 5G devices usually have dual-band technology. You’ll find most of them can work with CDMA and GSM networks, though they need to be carrier-unlocked.
4. International Roaming
Mint Mobile - If you’re looking to go abroad, you can use Mint services overseas by purchasing international call credits and roaming credits. UpRoam allows you to purchase credit to use your Mint services overseas, including outside of Canada and Mexico.
Cricket - Cricket does not currently offer any travel add-ons that enable you to roam internationally.
Visible - Visible did not include any international roaming service.
5. International Calling
Mint Mobile - Free calling to Mexico and Canada now included. Plus enjoy super-low rates to over 160 countries worldwide.
Cricket - They only provide unlimited calling to and from landlines and mobile phones in Mexico, Canada. And they offer unlimited texts from the U.S. to 37 countries
Visible - Previously Visible did not include any international calling & texting. They do now offer calling and texting to four locations: Mexico, Canada, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
6.Mobile Hotspot Data
MVNOs are not particularly the best options when it comes to mobile hotspots, i.e., using your phone as a portable Wi-Fi.Quite frankly, if mobile hotspot is a priority for you, look at the major cell phone carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon).
Mint and Visible do include mobile hotspot in their plans. Visible offers unlimited hotspot data with the big caveat that speeds are limited to 5Mbps. Mint includes 5GB of dedicated mobile hotspot data in its unlimited plan. With the Mint limited plans, any mobile hotspot will count against your overall data limit.
Cricket should pay additional $10 per month for mobile hotspot. And the hotspot is only on the top plan(compatible phone required)
The Verdict
Mint Mobile and Visible offer no-frill cell phone plans that are among the cream of the crop when it comes to value. You get proven service and highly trusted cellular networks for extremely competitive prices.
Regardless, Visible is a much better option, in my opinion. Yes, $40 might be expensive, but that can be for only the first month. Once you join, you can add other lines to your account and save up to $15/ mo.
But you can't ignore that Mint Mobile and Cricket have fantastic options for those who want a smaller data package each month - something that Visible just doesn't offer.Cricket's plans tend to be more expensive than what you can get from Mint and Visible, but the price comes down quite a bit with multiple lines on unlimited.
