What Is Rudsak?

Origins: 1994

Signature: Premium fabrics and furs

It starts with an iconic black leather jacket. From Marlon Brando to Joan Jett, the leather jacket has always been the uniform of the rebel, a symbol of non-conformity and the inspirational fuel for founding RUDSAK. The brand was launched in 1994 by its visionary and creative leader, Evik Asatoorian, who continues to head up the conception and design of classically cool collections of leather apparel and accessories.
The first garments were fashioned in an old brick building in the heart of Montreal's garment district. Collections came to life in RUDSAK's atelier, home to every stage from the selection of finest leathers to the skilled handiwork of trained craftspeople for over 30 years, the RUDSAK brand has been anchored by a cool rebellious spirit, traveling seamlessly between art, music and design, adding new layers of meaning with each new line.
Located in Montreal, Canada, the privately owned company's head office is the birthplace of all RUDSAK designs. Whether it's a classic leather jacket, elevated outerwear or innovative knits and sportswear, the artful inspiration continues to flow.

  • Canada Goose Review

What Is Canada Goose?

Origins: 1957

Signature: Celebrity favorite

Its history begins in 1957 in Toronto, Canada, where it was originally named Metro Sportswear Ltd. The name of Canada Goose came after the brand launched its products to the European market.

By the '80s, people were sporting the company's jackets in the coldest places on Earth. Its expedition parka became standard-issue at Antarctica's McMurdo Station, where the scientists nicknamed it "Big Red." And in 1982, one of the company's jackets made it to the top of Mt. Everest on the back of Laurie Skreslet, the first Canadian to summit the mountain.

Canada Goose claims to be committed to producing the best winter weather outerwear in the world. Canada Goose offers the perfect blend of luxury and uncompromising craftsmanship. And every piece is made in Canada with proprietary fabrics designed to ensure exceptional performance and protection—in whatever conditions you might face. Every product is designed with purpose and informed by the rugged demands of the Canadian Arctic.

  • Difference Between Rudsak, Mackag, Moose Knuckles And Canada Goose

Mackage

The brand initiated their collection with outerwear for women and then expanded towards men’s products in 2008. In 2013, they also launched a handbag collection, which has been highly appreciated by their customers.

Over the years, Mackage has gained popularity because of its combination of chic and modern designs, as well as high quality products.

Mackage coats are designed to make sure that each detail provides a very specific benefit to you so that you get the very best in comfort, warmth, and protection when you are out and about and you can look good doing it. Their mission was clear: to elevate outerwear with a unique balance between fashion and function.

Moose Knuckles

Moose Knuckles combines high-end fashion with functionality to create outerwear that excels in both form and function. The brand is renowned for its fashion-forward designs, fur-lined hoods, and striking logos. Their jackets are available in various colors and styles, ranging from simple, single-color designs to attention-grabbing options with contrasting colors and patterns. The fur trim on many of their coats adds a touch of elegance, while the metal hardware gives them a bold appeal.

Moose Knuckles designs their outerwear with functionality in mind. This includes features like adjustable hoods, multiple pockets for storage, rib-knit cuffs to seal in warmth, and reinforced stitching for durability. The jackets often showcase stylish details and unique design elements.

While Moose Knuckles is renowned for their winter jackets and parkas, they also offer a range of outerwear options suitable for transitional seasons. This versatility allows individuals to enjoy Moose Knuckles designs in various climates. These features contribute to the overall appeal of Moose Knuckles outerwear, offering both functional and fashionable elements to meet the needs of individuals seeking stylish and well-crafted winter apparel.

Canada Goose

Straightforward and utilitarian, Canada Goose offers a no-frills look. It doesn't pay too much attention to style. Instead, they focus more on function. Don't get me wrong - some of their jackets are still pretty stylish. But compared to Moncler, they do fall short.

Canada Goose tends to stick to more classic colors like black, navy, or white. In addtion, Canada Goose jackets lean towards a more rugged and practical look. Canada Goose styles are mainly divided into several series: Parkas, Bombers, Lightweight, Raincoats. Canada Goose styles are mainly divided into three types:Regular (regular style), Relaxed (loose style) and Slim (slim fit).

The same style corresponds to one style, but may include two versions, a regular version and a FUSION FIT version. For example, Kensington's down jacket is a Slim style, but it has a regular version and a Fusion version.

About FUSION FIT, also known as the "Asian version", is designed to provide excellent fit, comfort and protection for smaller people. Generally speaking, the size of the regular version of the slim model = (normal size -1), and the Fusion version = normal size. Generally, e-commerce products are the regular version unless otherwise stated. The Canada Goose official website has a Fusion Fit version, and physical stores in big cities with a large number of Asians will also have a FF version.

2.Materials & Manufacture

RUDSAK

RUDSAK’s winter coats come with 800 fill-power goose down for their insulation, with a blend of 90% down of premium quality and 10% feather fill. As you probably know, and as we’ve explained in this article, goose down is, in the majority of cases, better than duck down at insulating and more expensive.

As for their manufacturing process, it includes close monitoring of each and every detail right from the conception of the product to its finished version.

Just like any reputable brand, RUDSAK focuses on innovation, which they believe is essential to constantly enhance the performance of their products, as well as their customers’ experience.

The high-quality leather they utilize is of lambskin and calf, and undergoes a tanning process that improves the product’s appearance.

RUDSAK is an environmentally conscious brand that follows the “Responsible Down Standard”, which means that their down products are created in cruelty-free and environmentally friendly conditions.

The down is certified and completely traceable. The source can be verified through their down-tracking program, allowing customers to find the source of the down used in their purchased product.

RUDSAK also utilizes HyperDry Allied down in some jackets, which is a patented technology that improves down’s water-resistance and makes it easier to clean, while maintaining its softness and fluffiness.

Mackage

This brand doesn’t limit itself to only polyester and nylon fabrics. Mackage utilizes several high quality materials like wool, leather, down and fur trims. The furs utilized come from different animals like rabbits and raccoons.

The linings and the shells of their jackets are weather-resistant, usually made from laminates and specialized fabrics. Also they are down proof to reduce the risk of shedding feathers.

The sleeve cuffs are usually made of wool in the majority of their jackets.

As for the insulation, the duck down that Mackage uses, includes whole clusters that have a minimum fill power of 800. The ratio is at least 90% down and 10% feathers.

Mackage also uses Nano Down which is coated with Texcote™ Nano treatment. This treatment assists in enhancing the loft and durability of down and makes it fast-drying.

Moose Knuckles

Since Moose Knuckles is a luxury clothing brand, it only uses the highest quality materials and fabrics to create its incomparable pieces. The company mainly uses a blend of cotton and nylon (74% cotton to 26% nylon), which ensures that the parkas and jackets will be long lasting and arm. This combination of materials, plus grey duck down, will keep you warm in temperatures as low as -40 degrees.

Every jacket sold by Moose Knuckles is coated in a water-repellent material that keeps it dry for long periods of time, along with preventing the down-filled interior from getting wet. This is very important because down is notorious for losing all of its insulating abilities when wet.

The insulation used is mainly Grey Duck Down, with a fill power that ranges from 650 to 800, which is one of the highest available. It provides great insulation and loft. On to its furs, the trims are made of real fur, ethically sourced from Scandinavian and Canadian furriers, from Silver foxes and Arctic Blue foxes. The furs’ colors are left untouched, providing a unique look for each different jacket.

Canada Goose

Just like many outdoor clothing brands, Canada Goose utilizes polyester and nylon as their main fabrics. They use high quality fabrics, making their products long lasting with excellent finishing.Merino wool and coyote fur are two of the other natural, animal-based materials used by Canada Goose and they are also both sourced responsibly.

For years Canada Goose has used down insulation, referred to as fill powder in the industry. Fill power is a measure of the loft, or the “fluffiness” of a down product. Canada Goose jackets have a standardized fill power of 625, 675, 750, and 800. The pricest parkas boast an 800 fill of Hutterite down, which is traceable in certain models.

The jacket shell, or outer material, is made from “Arctic-Tech”, which is how Canada Goose brands a standard fabric made from 85% polyester and 15% cotton with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

3.Warmth

RUDSAK

The RUDSAK coats leathers they utilize are all superior grades of lambskin and calf. All the products go through thier unique tanning process to enhance their appearance.

For the insulation of their winter coats, Rudsak uses 800 fill power goose down of premium quality, with a blend of 90% down and 10% feather fill. This mixture provides excellent warmth-to-weight ratio and, as you probably know, goose down is usually better than duck down and also more expensive.

Mackage

Attached to every jacket from Mackage is a tag stating the lowest temperature a person wearing the garment can withstand. You can choose from them according to the average winter temperature where you live.

These temperatures range from 23°F to as low as -35°F. In this way, you can easily choose which trench coat is the right choice so that you are not too hot nor too cold.

Moose Knuckles

Moose Knuckles jackets are equipped with premium down insulation, offering exceptional warmth without bulk. The down feathers effectively retain heat close to the body, ensuring comfort even in the lowest temperatures.

Moreover, Moose Knuckles provides jackets with varying insulation levels, catering to individuals needing lightweight options for milder winters or heavy-duty parkas for harsh cold.

Canada Goose

When you try on a Canada Goose, you will feel that you are always protected from the cold, as if you were walking around in a warm shelter.

Pull up the hood and pull up the fur lining, you can almost do it. Excellent wind protection, even the length of the zipper has been protected, which forms an almost impenetrable block, which can completely keep the cold air away from the inside of your parka.

When talking about Canada Goose jackets, I will be mentioning TEI quite often. That stands for Thermal Experience Index, and it basically tells you how warm a particular Canada Goose jacket is. TEI rating ranges from 1 to 5, and here are the definitions that will help you figure out the TEI rating you’re looking for:

TEI 1 – For sporty adventures, good for 5°C / -5°C temperatures

TEI 2 – A versatile jacket; suitable for 0°C / -15°C temperatures

TEI 3 – Everyday use; warm in -10°C / -20°C temperatures

TEI 4 – Good for daily use; suitable for -15°C / -25°C temperatures

TEI 5 – For extreme colds; temperatures below -30°C

4.Price Range

RUDSAK

RUDSAK just like Mackage, is a high-end brand with very high quality materials and luxurious details. This means that the price range is part of the “expensive brands” category.

This luxury coat collection ranges from US$495 up to US$1445. Hats and gloves range from US$95 to US$125, with jogging pants and leggings ranging from US$175 to US$225. Winter boots are US$365.

Are these RUDSAK jackets worth the price?

In our opinion, yes, they are. The high quality materials used, the craftsmanship and attention to details, along with the variety of styles and designs make these jackets worth their price.

Mackage

Mackage is a high-end brand, which means that their jackets are not budget-friendly and many of them can cost you more than $700. Obviously, these jackets come with high quality, durable materials, just like one might expect from such high prices.

Are these Mackage jackets worth the price?

When we think about the comfort and performance levels, the price of the jackets can be somewhat justified. But if you only look at the style of these products, the answer comes down to personal preference.

Moose Knuckles

In terms of pricing, Moose Knuckles is definitely not considered cheap but you’re paying for its quality. Most of the jackets sold in-store and online are upwards of $1,000.

Are these Moose Knuckles jackets worth the price?

Every Moose Knuckles jacket, coat, and parka is made with an outer layer of 74% cotton and 26% nylon, which helps balance cold-weather durability and protection with luxurious handle and lifelong quality.

Additionally, sturdy YKK-brand zippers are used in every garment, which are engineered to withstand long term use.

Canada Goose

Jackets prices range from $500 to $2,000.  Their jacket is reasonably priced for something that both looks fashion forward and can withstand a spontaneous Arctic expedition. This is another testament to 'getting what you pay for'.  If you want a jacket that can keep you warm during Himalayan blizzards, I think the price tag is justified.

However, Canada Goose jackets tend to hold their resale value better in the second-hand market, especially if you maintain the jacket well and keep the original tags. A used Canada Goose jacket can often sell for $650-$700 after a few years

Are these Canada Goose jackets worth the price?

While they are highly durable and very insulating in harsh weather and low temperatures, they come with a quite high price tag that starts at around $600 and goes up. However, another point in their favor is the fact that these are very long-lasting products and can be used for years to come, as many users have reported.

  • Conclusion: Which Brand is the Best?

All in all, these four brands -Rudsak,Mackage,Moose Knuckles and Canada Goose make high quality coats and jackets. In all likelihood, you will be more than satisfied with your purchase regardless of which brand you choose. Ultimately, the decision between the four brands will come down to your individual needs, style preferences, and budget.

Rudsak

ALL Rudsak,Mackage,Moose Knuckles and Canada Goose provide high quality winter wear, and offer a range of stylish jackets and down coats. Their jackets are weather-resistant to keep you warm and dry, and to withstand the cold, harsh Canadian winters.

But if you want more design options to choose from and you want to use your jacket in your day-to-day city life, you can choose RUDSAK and save some money too, with a few jackets by RUDSAK that are slightly more affordable than Mackage orCanada Goose.

Mackage

The Mackage brand’s edgy styles have long made it a darling among the fashion-forward crowd, especially with its must-have moto leather jackets.

However, the Montreal-based label also delivers warmth with heavier offerings that range from premium down jackets and parkas to stylish wool coats. Mackage’s quality is matched by its design aesthetic: minimalist lines, modern silhouettes, and tailoring details.

So if you prefer a more classic style, you can go with Mackage and never think about it for one more second.

Moose Knuckles

Moose Knuckles specializes in parkas and winter jackets, making not only high-quality designs but also stylish ones.

In their product range, you can find a variety of jackets and coats, from light to weatherproof ones, as well as accessories, knitwear, and shirting products.

Choose Moose Knuckles if you want superior warmth, water resistance, and long-term durability, especially in extreme cold. The attention to detail in their construction and features like down-proof insulation and freeze-proof zippers make it an ideal jacket for harsh weather conditions.

Canada Goose

If you’re going to a very cold place where you’ll stay out in nature for a long time and you are happy with a minimalist, classic style, you can choose Canada Goose. Their parkas will keep you warm and safe.

Choose Canada Goose if you’re looking for a jacket with a more luxurious, exclusive appeal and better resale value. While it may not handle torrential rain as well, it’s still a solid option for cold weather, and its brand prestige speaks for itself.

Besides, if you have a relatively high budget and love good quality and performing products, Canada Goose is the brand to go with. But if you're on a budget and want a jacket that can keep you warm without breaking the bank, Rudsak or Moose Knuckles is a great choice.
