GHD Helios vs. T3 Cura Luxe vs. Dyson Hair Dryer vs. Drybar Buttercup: Which is Best for You?

Which Hair Dryer is Best for You?
    • When it comes to picking up the right hair dryer, the weight, wattage, attachments, heat settings, and even cord length can be more important than fancy hair dryer technology. If you’re blow-drying your hair every day then you want a reliable and durable hairdryer. And different hair types will require different types of hair dryers, so Which brand hair dryer is best? Which is the best hair dryer for personal use? Which hair dryer is least damaging? To make it easier for you, we tested blow dryers that ranged in function and price and have listed most people favorites below!

How To Choose A Good Hair Dryer?

  • Pay Attention To Wattage Instead Of Heat.

Pay attention to wattage instead of heat. Many blow dryers are advertised as hotter than all the rest, but having the hottest blow dryer may not always be the best for your hair. Depending on the type of hair you have, you may not even need the highest setting of heat. Thick, coarse hair benefits from high heat levels, but thin hair would be best dried on a low heat setting. The more watts your blow dryer has, the harder (not necessarily hotter) it will blow. Having a good amount of power will dry your hair without you having to heat it to death. It is recommended to buy a blow dryer with at least 1350 watts. If you have thicker hair, try to get a blow dryer that has at least 1850 watts..

  • A Cool Shot Option Is Helpful.

A cool shot option is helpful. Many blow dryers come with a “cool shot” option. This is a great feature to have because it seals the cuticles, giving your hair that “finished” look. A cool shot option will help set your hair, give it shine, and make the style last longer. It is also great for setting curls and waves.

  • Consider Your Hair Type.

Consider your hair type. Blow dryers are not “one size fits all”. Your hair type will make a huge difference in which blow dryer will be best for you. In general, thick, coarse hair needs more power while thin, fine hair needs less. You also have to consider other factors such as damaged hair, relaxed or permed hair, curly or straight hair and more. Fine, thin hair will benefit more from a ceramic blow dryer. For thick, coarse hair, choose a tourmaline or ionic blow dryer.

Different Types Of  Hair Dryer

  • Ionic Hair Dryer

Ionic blow dryers have built-in ion generators and tend to last longer than traditional hair dryers. Ionic dryers use the power of negative ions to dry your hair rather than increased heat. Traditional hair dryers generate positive ions which cause the cuticles to raise up, resulting in loss of natural moisture and a frizzy look. Negative ions have the opposite effect–they seal in natural moisture, dry your hair faster than traditional hair dryers, and makes your hair look better. The result is soft, supple, shiny hair that isn’t dried out.

  • Tourmaline Hair Dryer

Tourmaline is a material that conducts a large number of negative ions, even more than an actual ionic blow dryer. So, you are probably wondering why you would opt for an ionic blow dryer instead of a tourmaline blow dryer. Tourmaline blow dryers tend to cost more, so budget would be the big factor in determining your choice between a tourmaline blow dryer or an ionic blow dryer. You could save money by getting a blow dryer that is a mix of tourmaline and ceramic. This type of blow dryer works best for thick, coarse, and/or frizzy hair. If you have thin, fine hair, you probably want to avoid this type of blow dryer.

  • Titanium Hair Dryer

Titanium- A material used in some hairdryers and blow dryers Any titanium styling are great for people.Any titanium styling tool is going to be top of the line when it comes to performance and quality. Blow dryers are no exception. Even though they may crack your wallet, titanium blow dryers are a great choice for people who want nothing but the best. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and reduces drying time for people with thick hair.

The GHD Helios is a wonderful brand which was launched in 2012. The hair dryer is engineered with the aero precis technology which is a combination of the internal aerodynamics which involves a nozzle that is oval shaped to allow quality flow of air. Quality flow of air means a reduction in frizz which leads to improved shininess thus making the dryer ideal for the dull hair type. In addition the dryer has a powerful motor with a wattage of 2200w. This makes it deliver powerful amount of heat and air thus meaning a short dry time. This feature makes the dryer ideal for busy professionals who want to achieve their desired hair results within a short period of time. The amazing part of this hair tool is that you don’t need to use a nozzle to achieve the sleek and sassy hair results unlike in other hair dryers. This makes the hair tool very sophisticated and classy.

Design

Having owned, and used, a GHD Air for years, we can confirm the GHD Helios is noticeably lighter. You can instantly tell it’s quieter, too, and its extra power becomes clear as soon as you start using it.

Power And Technology

The GHD Helios does have a faster motor than the Dyson (2,200w vs 1,600w) but in reality, this isn’t the main differentiator here.Plus the motor speed is largely moot.Don’t be hoodwinked into thinking a faster motor equates to a superior product.

It’s what the motor does with the airflow that counts.Subsequently, a large part of the development of the Helios went into its so-called AeroPrecis technology.

Repeat this step to reengage the auto pause sensor.

GHD Helios vs T3 Cura Luxe Hair Dryer :Which Is Better?

Both of them have amazing features. From various test conducted where we used the same hair type to dry and straighten hair the Cura luxe had better hair results as compared to the GHD Helios. This is because the Cura Luxe dryer has digital heat settings that help you customize and regulate speed. Despite this the GHD Helios is more affordable than the Cura Luxe hair dryer. In addition it is light weight making it easy to hold and use.

>>Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

When this dryer was first released, it immediately became the standard against which every other hair drying device was judged. Its ergonomic design and fast-drying power motor make it both comfortable and convenient to use.Three easy-to-attach, interchangeable magnetic extensions — the Styling Concentrator, Smoothing Nozzle, and Diffuser — allow for varied air distribution, accommodating multiple hair types. Its balanced weight distribution keeps it steady as you move it around your head, unlike top-heavy models.

A digital V9 motor, which is located in the handle, emits a strong, temperature precision air current for fast drying times and minimal heat damage. We'd recommend this machine to just about any hair type, thanks to its many extension options.

Design

A total overhaul on the typical hair dryer, it steps away from traditional shape and opts instead for a small, even doughnut barrel that works without the usual dust-ridden blade. With a chic but comfortable matte handle and magnetic nozzle attachments, it establishes itself as the elegant and considerate option on the hair dryer market.

Sleek speed- and temperature-control buttons also make a departure from the regular clunky switches, with subtle coloured lights to signify which setting you’re using. We also love the signature grey and fuschia Dyson colouring, but for anyone who wants a fiercer or more gender-neutral colour, there’s also a black and nickel option.

Power And Technology

Despite being quieter than most of its competitors, the dryer lives up to its name with its hit of power. With a sound more akin to a sci-fi jet than a hair dryer, the Supersonic emits a high-velocity stream of controlled air to dry locks in seconds.

A clever heat-control feature that regulates every 20 seconds, as well as four different degree options, also maintains an optimum temperature, so that hair dries without being frazzled, making for a shinier finish.

Which hair type is it good for?

  • Straight

  • Wavy

  • Curly

  • Coiled

  • Tightly Coiled

  • All  hair types

Features

  • The high-powered digital Dyson motor combined with Dyson Air Multiplier Technology produces a powerful, high-velocity air jet for quick drying and precision styling.

  • Intelligent heat control measures the air temperature over 40 times a second to avoid excessive heat damage.

  • Through research in their hair laboratories, Dyson engineered a range of attachments to make this dryer ideal for many hair types.

  • It's lightweight and balanced: Dyson redesigned the dryer's weight and shape by putting its motor in the handle, also increasing comfort.

  • The magnetic attachments allow you to adjust styling options quickly and easily.

  • The motor is quite powerful yet produces very little noise.

  • You can choose from multiple speed and heat settings for fast, regular or gentle drying.

  • It produces negative ions to help reduce static in your hair.

  • Heat Shield technology keeps the attachments cool, even when styling close to the hair.

                                                                            Specifications
Weight: 659g

Power: 1600W

Speed settings: 3

Heat settings: 4

Cord length: 2.5m

Warranty: 2 years

Available colours: Iron & fuschia, black & nickel

Extras: 5 styling attachments included

                                 Pros

                         Cons

  • Super fast drying time (for straight hair, at least).

  • Three speeds and three heat settings, so you can customize the air flow.

  • Quieter than most dryers; we were even able to hold a conversation while using it.

  • Less long-term hair damage.

  • The fancy factor.

  • The price! Price at at $399 - it’s actually sort of nauseating how expensive it is.

  • Not Ideal for Travel.

  • Although the dryer itself is small and light, the cord is long and bulky, so it’s not ideal for travel

  • Minimal immediate results

How to Use?

  1. Smoothing nozzle - Dry and style at the same time for sleek finish. Pre-styling, this can be used to "rough" dry the hair. Attach the nozzle vertically. This will move your hair gently from side-to-side, and can help to lift it. To finish your style, rotate the nozzle to point air flow down the hair shaft, using your fingers or a brush to guide it. You may want to switch to a lower heat setting to avoid over-drying the hair.

  2. Styling concentrator - Airflow precisely where you need it. With the Dyson Styling concentrator, you can shape your hair one section at a time - without worrying about disturbing the rest. Rotate the styling concentrator to match the direction you're styling in. Use a round brush to guide your hair and create your style.

  3. Diffuser - Natural drying, accelerated. Cup your hair in the diffuser, starting at the tips. Very gently push the hair upwards. The trick is to move your natural curls as little as possible, so try not to brush or touch your hair and stick to the lowest airflow setting.

GHD Helios Vs Dyson Supersonic : Which Is Better?

  • Price: The GHD Helios costs $249 whereas the Dyson Supersonic price in the UK is £299.99 – a staggering difference of $399.99.

  • Attachments: You get one concentrator nozzle as standard with the Helios. With the Supersonic you get a Smoothing nozzle, a Concentrator nozzle, a diffuser and a heat mat

  • Speed settings: Three on the Helios. Three on the Supersonic

  • Heat settings: Three on the Helios. Three on the Supersonic

  • Drying time: The GHD Helios dries our hair from wet from the shower to dry in one minute and six seconds, on average. The Dyson Supersonic review dries our hair (on average) in 2 minutes 6 seconds.

Dyson Supersonic Vs T3 Cura Luxe:Which Is Better?

  • Price:As I mentioned previously, the Dyson retails for about $400, whereas  Cura Luxe for $295.

  • Performance:Both the Dyson and the T3 hair dryers are extremely fast hair dryers. Dyson uses the same airflow technology that it does in its vacuum cleaners, which allows the nozzle to distribute air across a wide surface, thus resulting in less heat damage and a quicker drying time.

On the other hand, the T3 technology relies on ion technology to increase the smoothness of the hair as well as providing a faster drying time. The Dyson has 3 different speed settings and 4 different heat settings – a level up from the T3 Cura. However, the Cura Luxe has 5 heat settings and 2 speed settings.

VERDICT:Overall,  I would argue that both hair dryers perform equally well and that performance shouldn’t be what you need to consider when you’re buying one or the other. What you should consider are the price point, the loudness of the hair dryer, the weight and size of it, and to some extent, the appearance.

Different hair textures react to heat differently. For example, finer strands mean that a lower temperature is needed to dry them. Otherwise, they can get fried. On the other hand, thicker strands can take much longer to dry. Adjusting the heat setting can dry the hair at a more convenient pace.

The Drybar Buttercup Hair Dryer has three temperature settings. The heat range makes it flexible enough to be used by people with various hair types.

The product comes with two concentrator nozzles so to direct the airflow for hair smoothening and setting. However, one issue with the Buttercup is that it does not come with a diffuser. It is an extra attachment that can be useful in getting even heat distribution.

Power Source

One of the biggest indicators that the Drybar Buttercup Hair Dryer is used by the pros is its power cord. It has a 9-feet cord that can be plugged in a 120-volt power source. The length of the cord means that it can be used easily.

Drybar Buttercup Vs. Dyson Supersonic:Which Is Better?

The Dyson Supersonic is a top of the line product when it comes to the beauty industry. The Supersonic is much more expensive than the Drybar clocking in at almost double the price.

But, it does offer more bells and whistles. It has a safety feature against heat damage. The temperature is gauged every 20 seconds, so it does not accidentally burn the hair. The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer also offers more heat settings than the Drybar Buttercup. Users can select from four different temperatures and three air flow speeds.

The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer is a good option for those with the budget. Otherwise, you can get similar results with the Drybar Buttercup for a lower price.
