  • Indochino Suits Review

What Is Indochino?

Indochino began in 2015 as an online startup for made-to-measure mens suits, but it has grown into a premier destination with custom essentials for men and women. Since their inception, our Indochino reviews have covered their suits, overcoats, chinos and dress shirts, and they are now thoroughly impressed by this new and improved way to shop for formal and business casual attire.

The brand offers personalized fits, a ton of customizable options, affordable prices — and it's all accessible from the comfort of your home or in-person at an Indochino showroom. Indochino's flexible and convenient approach to tailoring strips away the notion that custom-made clothes are reserved for fashion elites or the wealthy.

While standard alpha sizes can be a perfectly fine choice for certain types of clothing, custom-fitted garments are almost always a better choice for the more important wardrobe pieces. For how simple Indochino makes the fit screening process, Indochino now consider them a top contender in both the best work clothes for men and the best suits for women.

Indochino Official Price

Indochino suit catalog ranges between $319 and $549 with linen and wool blends, cashmere, and cotton-spandex.

Indochino Suits Design & Style

Of all the online MTM (made-to-measure) suiting companies, Indochino has got to have amongst, if not the single largest, collection of fabrics. They have all the standard options, like your grays and blacks and navy and so on — and they all come in numerous tiers of fabrics as well.

But they also offer stretch fabrics, beautiful plaids and checkered fabrics, cotton and linen suits, as well as richly textured weaves. And the list goes on and on and on. In some ways, they might even have too many fabrics, as it can be a bit overwhelming.

Indochino Suits Quality (Materials & Comfort)

Indochino have a huge selection of suit fabrics and they are constantly running sales on off-season items or just fabrics that are not selling as well. Since they are always pushing new products to get people to pay full price, this means they are cycling through their older stuff into the sale section.

To give you an example, since it’s not always easy to understand, suits for the winter can be made with heavier fabrics and suits for the summer can be made with lighter fabrics. On the Indochino website it will tell you the weight of the fabric.

Summary of suiting fabric weights:

  1. All season suit fabric is around 280 gsm

  2. Winter suit fabric is around 380 gsm

  3. Summer suit fabric is around 215 gsm - 260 gsm

With hundreds of materials and thousands of customizable options, Indochino is far from an off-the-rack menswear label. And you can go through the whole process online, in-person at a showroom, or a combination of both.

  • Suitsupply Suits Review

What Is Suitsupply ?

Suitsupply was founded in 2000 by Dutch entrepreneur Fokke de Jong. Aiming to disrupt the traditional menswear suiting model that privileged Italian and British haberdasheries, de Jong adopted more of a direct-to-consumer mindset. Suitsupply offers high-end tailoring at prices that are at times a fifth of the cost of other clothiers. By cutting out the middleman, Suitsupply can offer trendy, carefully crafted styles in durable textiles beginning at just $500 (compared to luxury suits that can easily run $3,000 to $5,000, if not more).

In addition to over 190 different suit designs, the brand is a one-stop-shop for menswear staples, offering a full range of styles including casual and formal shirts, chinos and trousers, shorts, and outerwear—as well as an ever-expanding collection of formal eveningwear and wedding suits.

Finally, Suitsupply offers what they refer to as the “most comprehensive tailoring program in the world” with their Custom Made line. This innovative service offers shoppers the chance to design their own custom suits, coats, dress shirts, and more—from Suitsupply’s collection of over 750 fine Italian textiles. Most custom designs are crafted and delivered within three weeks, and the process is easy to complete online at home or in-person at one of the brand’s 118 stores worldwide.

Suitsupply Official Price

Suitsupply’s off-the-rack suits are starting at $400, but there are only a few options; you’ll find a lot more with $500 and up, and you can go all the way up to  $1,000 for an off-the-rack suit with a floating canvas in the jacket and more premium fabrics.

The Suitsupply custom program starts at $600, but most suits range between $650 and $700

Suitsupply Suits Design & Style

Apart from suits, they have separates such as blazers or sports jackets, trousers, vests, knitwear, accessories, overcoats, and a few other things. T

The suit range they offer is built on a foundation of a classic suit, but they approached a more modern cut with a shorter jacket, some more Italian or Southern European details, and often bold fabrics. Some also called suits to play garments Euro Slim because they’re in fact cut very slim, they’re short, they have a higher buttoning point and also a higher gorge and mostly no padding or very little in the shoulders.

The target market seems to be younger men who want a really slim fitting suit with a modern silhouette, and while you can get your typical navy and gray suits, they really have a broad range of textured and interestingly colored fabrics. CEO Fokke de Jong sometimes says that Suitsupply is for men who want to rescue the uniform culture of suits but still like the look and the feel of a suit.

Suitsupply Suits Quality (Materials & Comfort)

All custom made suits at Suitsupply are crafted from premium Italian fabrics from the heart of Italy's famed weaving region, Biella. Whether it's staples like pure wool, linen and cotton, luxurious noble fibers like alpaca, cashmere and silk, or classic finishes like corduroy and seersucker, you'll be designing with the finest seasonal fabrics straight from Italy's top mills.

In terms of the Suitsupply details, they have this Italian curved chest pocket, which is also called the Barchetta. All their buttonholes are machine sewn, but they’re of a high quality where the hole is cut first and then sewn, so they look neat. Many of their sleeve heads show some puckering, which is a hallmark of a Southern Italian tailoring tradition, and it’s a bit more relaxed and casual in line with the person they want to reach.

The standard buttons they offer are plastic, but if you go with a custom program, they also have horn buttons or metal options, but they’re limited overall.

Overall, the workmanship level on Suitsupply suits is very high for an off the rack garment. All the seams are straight, everything is thought through, and it’s a nicely sewn jacket. Unlike many traditional brands in this price range, Suitsupply suits don’t feel stiff, and the fabrics are nice brand names, and they also feel good.

Proper Cloth Suits Quality (Materials & Comfort)

So much of a great suit is about the fabric itself and Proper Cloth work with the world’s best mills to source the highest quality fabrics.

A S110s merino wool is a great starting place for a suit fabric, providing a great hand feel, but still being sturdy enough to endure daily use without weating out too fast.

For a more premium product, consider S130s or even S150s fabrics, these look even more luxurious, but you should be mindful that they are finer and need to be treated with a bit more care. You can also consider different weaves - from a simple plain weave, a sharkskin, nailhead or birdseye. All of these weaves are conservative and business appropriate and a matter of taste.

With the advancement of fabric technology, Proper Cloth are now offering some excellent suits that have 2% Elastane added to their fabric for just a bit of stretch. For slimmer fitting suits, this is a great feature that will add a lot of comfort.

Proper Cloth work with several mills including Dino Filarte and Marzotto to source our most affordable suiting fabrics, Drago and Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC) produce Proper Cloth premium quality suiting fabrics in Italy, and Proper Cloth most expensive suiting fabrics come from Loro Piana, also milled in Italy.

  • Indochino vs. Suitsupply vs. Proper Cloth vs. Men's Wearhouse: Which is Best for You?

Choosing between Indochino, Suitsupply, Proper Cloth and Men's Wearhouse suits depends on personal preferences, budget, and any existing fits conditions. So Indochino vs. Suitsupply vs. Proper Cloth vs. Men's Wearhouse suits : which is best suitable to you?

Indochino Suits

Indochino is a great choice for any guy who needs a custom suit at an affordable price. They provide a wide selection of fabric materials, suit styles, and personalization options so you can make the suit just the way you want it.

Indochino has made custom suiting more accessible for guys on tight budgets, but the fit can be tricky to get right if you live far from one of their showrooms.

The overall fit of your suit largely depends on the tailor who took your measurements, but if you live close to a showroom you can use Indochino’s Perfect Fit Promise to take the suit back for alterations, free of charge, until the suit is just right.

If you’re looking for a custom made, stylish suit that won’t break the bank, we recommend checking out Indochino.

Suitsupply  Suits

Suitsupply offers a trendier, higher-quality suit at a higher price point. They have two options for suit purchasing, regular and custom (+$100). If you go into a Suitsupply store you can most likely find an off the rack suit from there that they can alter to your specifications. Otherwise, they have their custom suit option available. They do offer several entry-level suits under $500, which might be a great in between option, but to really get the most out of the Suitsupply suit, it's more often at the $1,000 price point.

If budget isn’t a consideration, our pick is Suitsupply.Their tailoring experience, depth of customization, and quality of materials outshone the suit we got from Indochino, and it was worth the extra money to us.

Proper Cloth  Suits

Proper Cloth is definitely a TMM-approved brand — as long as you have the budget for it, that is. All of their offerings are more expensive than anything you’ll get off the rack, but with just a little bit of trial and error, you can get clothes that make you look like a million bucks.

Definitely give Proper Cloth a try if you haven’t. we recommend starting with something like an Oxford shirt, as their $95 price point is very competitive and lets you dip your toe in the water.

Men's Wearhouse  Suits

Men's Wearhouse has been the go-to place for many when they need to snatch up a suit for the next big event, and it still holds out as one of the top places to buy a suit.

Not only is Men's Wearhouse affordable, they have a variety of styles: tuxedos, slim fit, patterned suits, and some of the top suit makers in the world.

Men's Wearhouse also offers in-person alteration and same-day hemming, so if you find a suit you love but isn't quite the right fit, Men's Wearhouse will take care of it for you.

If you’re unhappy with your suit, returns and exchanges are accepted within 90 days of the original purchase date. Or, if you get your suit and just aren’t sure about the fit, consider taking it to a store for tailoring before returning it because a little tailoring can work magic on a suit that just doesn’t feel right on the initial try-on.
