12 Cheaper Alternatives to Omega Speedmaster in 2025
Speedmaster collection, OMEGA's esteemed line of luxury, Swiss‑made watches. With a rich heritage in space exploration, the Speedmaster boasts unparalleled precision and style. The Omega Speedmaster went from the racetracks to the moon. It’s fully worthy of its king status. While the Omega Speedmaster is far from the most expensive watch out there, for many of us, shelling out thousands for a wristwatch is still no more than a pipe dream. Nevertheless, there are some good low-cost alternatives out there that give you that Speedmaster look for much less. In their own ways, each option in this article offers an attraction similar to that of the Omega Speedmaster.
Omega Speedmaster Review
The Speedmaster’s name was given to complement Omega’s already-established Seamaster and Railmaster collections. These original racing chronographs were powered by a manual wind movement, which means, unlike a quartz or an automatic movement, the Speedmaster has to be wound by hand on a regular basis to keep time.
Being manual wind allows the watch to not lose any function in low gravity. Because automatic watches utilize the pull of gravity on the rotor to wind the watch, this wouldn’t be functional in space. And quartz watches weren’t even available until 1969.
Truly, the Speedmaster represents an incredible chapter in watchmaking and NASA’s history. Omega provides many variants in the Speedmaster line. Traditionally, the Omega Speedmaster Professional comes in a black dial. But, there are limited editions that come with gold, silver, white, and other color dials. But, there’s no denying that the iconic “Moonwatch” has always had a black dial and, overall, the design has changed very little throughout its history.
The Omega Speedmaster is not waterproof, so you need to take it off when you shower, dive, or swim. It can handle a splash or two, but you don’t want to dive in.
Features:
1. Stainless steel with a 42-millimeter case and a 20-millimeter lug width. |
2. The dial is finished in black and features three sub-dials. These sub-dials measure the elapsed hours, minutes, and current running seconds. |
3. The hands, including the chronograph hand, are finished with Super-LumiNova to improve legibility in low-light settings. |
4. The dial is protected by a Hesalite acrylic crystal. Given that it’s shatterproof, it’s safer for use in space. A traditional sapphire crystal is available as well. |
5. The crown isn’t a watertight screw-down, but rather a push-pull, which results in only 5 bar of water resistance. 5 bar is equivalent to 50 meters or 167 feet. This, in watch terms, means the Speedmaster is only splash-proof. |
6. The watch is powered by Omega’s manual wind 3861 movement. This is Omega’s newest growth from the original 321 movement. It now boasts a master chronometer certification and a co-axial escapement. |
7. And, although the Speedmaster typically comes on a stainless steel bracelet, it’s entirely possible to swap it out for a leather or fabric strap. |
Price:
Omega’s website has the Speedmaster listed in a range of $5,350 to $54,200. This depends on your choice of crystal or if you want it on a strap or on the bracelet.
Like most elements of pre-owned clothing, you can pay less for gently-used models. And, as is the case with a lot of iconic watches, certain vintage Speedmasters can cost a lot more depending on the model and the condition.
Note: as always, beware of fakes on the market. After all, a watch that has this much cachet definitely has its fakes out there. Luckily, if you go to an Omega boutique or find yourself in an authorized retailer, you can be safe knowing you’re buying the real thing.

1. Bulova Lunar Pilot
Movement: NP20, Bulova High-performance quartz chronograph
Diameter: 43.5mm
Water Resistance: 50m
Pirce: $671.25 @bulova.com
On August 2, 1971, a Bulova chronograph was worn on the moon, engineered for the demands of the lunar environment. Now, Bulova returns to the design and updates it with an exclusive high precision quartz movement, continuing its legacy of precision timing with the men’s Bulova Lunar Pilot chronograph from the Archive Series. The Lunar Pilot chronograph features the same 43.5mm silver-tone stainless steel case as the original Bulova chronograph. Slim chronograph pushers and a crown featuring the Bulova tuning fork logo are positioned at 3 o’clock. Under the flat sapphire crystal, the six-hand chronograph dial is rendered in a deep black evocative of space, with stark white accents including the tachymeter ring and retro Bulova logo. The slim hands and applied markers offer exceptional legibility and are applied with super luminova for low-light display.
The Lunar Pilot is powered by Bulova’s proprietary high precision quartz movement, resonating at a frequency of 262khz for unparalleled accuracy. The watch is paired with a matching 3-link silver-tone stainless steel bracelet with a push-button deployant clasp and a NATO leather strap, both of which feature an easy release system for quick changes. The Bulova Lunar Pilot brings the past to the present with a design from space exploration history, perfect for the modern adventurer.
Bulova Lunar Pilot has been called the “other” Moonwatch, and it even shares quite a few visual traits with the Speedmaster. You might think Bulova copied the Omega Speedmaster design. In reality Bulova was competing to be the watch to go to space so they had to comply with Nasa’s specs and the look of the watch. It’s literally the Speedy’s historical pinch-hitter. Many consider this is the best alternatives to Omega Speedmaster, especially in this price range.

At first glance, the Alliance Sport Chronograph might be mistaken for a Speedmaster. But one look at the iconic Swiss cross at 12 o'clock signals to the world that this is no Omega but a genuine Victorinox. The 44mm diameter case is forged of stainless steel. The black aluminum bezel is marked with the tachymeter scale. The watch is very thin at only 11mm and sports a sapphire crystal that is anti-reflective coated. The sub dials display the running seconds as well as a 30 minute and 12 hour totalizer for the chronograph. This setup is very similar to the Omega Speedmaster. There are luminescent hands and indices which resemble folded Swiss Army knives. A nice touch and homage to the Victorinox heritage.

Movement: Quartz (battery powered)

This gives the tachymeter far more protection from being scratched as well as gives the entire watch a more elegant look.
The sub dials include running seconds, a 30 minute totalizer, and 24 hour time display. There is also a date window between the 4 and 5 o'clock indices. The branding is clean and thoughtfully understated. There are also lumed pips above each of the indices and the hour and minute hand are lume filled. The crystal is mineral and the entire watch offers 100m water resistance. The band is leather with a buckle.

1962 Racing Chronograph apes the black aluminum tachymeter bezel and twisted lugs from the Speedmaster, while throwing in the hands of a Universal Geneve Compax "Nina Rindt" and subdials reminiscent of a Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman" to create a gorgeous amalgam of early '60s motorsports chronographs. The Seiko meca-quartz movement helps keep costs down and combines battery-powered timekeeping accuracy with the satisfying click and smooth sweep of a mechanical chronograph.
9. Hamilton Jazzmaster Performance Auto Chrono

Even the bezel flaunts a stylish slope.

Pirce: $671.25 @seikowatches.com (SSC819)

Fortunately, all of that is well protected by a curved sapphire.
And since this is Prospex, Seiko’s subline of genuinely pro-level sport watches, all of the fixings are included. The V192 movement is solar powered and features a nifty 24-hour indicator. Ever reliable, its accuracy is at plus or minus 15 seconds a month.

12. Maen Skymaster 38
Movement: Sellita SW510mb TOP Grade
Diameter: 38mm
Water Resistance: 10ATM
Pirce: $1764 @maenwatches.com
Based on visuals alone, the Maen Skymaster 38 has a lot in common with the Speedmaster. If you love the look of the Speedy and not the price, this guy can basically be styled exactly like one. The line-forward design, racetrack subdials, and black-on-black between the bezel and dial are almost homage-like.
The Skymaster stands on its own in a lot of ways though. The ceramic uni-directional bezel is far cleaner, allowing you to more easily appreciate its elegant glisten. The boxed crystal, whether you go for sapphire or acrylic, provides that stylish distortion, giving an extra layer of dimensionality. It’s definitely much less utilitarian than the Speedy, and defendably more versatile because of that.
The classic Skymaster retains its original 12-hour bezel configuration, while, for the very first time, they proudly introduce the Skymaster with an additional option featuring a fixed tachymeter bezel.
