Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers Real vs Fake Guide 2024: How to Spot a Fake?

Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers Real vs Fake Guide 2024: How to Spot a Fake?

Balenciaga Triple S is a premium house-designed shoe that had sneakerheads and high-end fashion aficionados alike clambering over one another in order to get their hands on a pair. The iconoclastic cascade of ugly, practical and undeniably comfortable dad sneakers that shattered aesthetic norms and kindled ‘90s nostalgia industry-wide. They often use a combination of materials , including nubuck, leather and breathable mesh and now boasts a more distressed look. Inevitably, the trend has led to fake versions of Balenciaga shoes popping up. How to spot fake Balenciaga Triple S? To avoid the ultimate faux pas, I will share you some tips in this real vs fake Balenciaga Triple S sneakers guide for spotting the genuine.

1. The overrall of Balenciaga Triple S Sneaker

1) Gvasalia's take on 'fashion'  sneakers – the Balenciaga 'Triple S' trainer, first shown in Pairs in January 2017 - is quite simply the coolest, most provocative artefact to come off the menswear catwalk in modern times. An exercise in excess, this maximalist approach to design was in stark contrast to the years of minimalist trainers, low-profile silhouettes and restrained detailing that preceded it.

2) The 'Triple S' is also a hybrid: part running shoe, part hiking boot, the sole appears to be made from three separate sneakers, all having been 'melted'  into one multi-layered puddle of rubber. The effect is of a trainer that appears to be multiplying from the bottom, down.

3) The 'S' in Triple S stands for sole. In other words, this shoe has three of them. Molds were taken from a running shoe, a basketball shoe and track shoe, which were then stacked to create the 6.5cm platform that gives the Triple S both its unique look and its name.

4) Some iterations of the Triple S will include a fabric pull tab at the shoe's counter. However, if the counter is leather and a newer version, it will instead be embossed with Balenciaga's BB logo. Earlier versions of the Triple S will also feature a tongue tag with a sateen finish, but newer tags are made of a matte, papery Tyvek material.

2. The Materials of Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers

1) The Balenciaga Triple S' s upper comprises a patchwork of leather, mesh, jersey and, at the toe box, a proprietary reflective 3M material.

2) These shoes also feature a myriad of textures. Pummeled, chevron, cross-hatched, smooth and matte surfaces create a unique and distinctive appearance. If any of these textures are not present  on a version that normally has them, it means the shoe is fake.

3) On the other hand, regardless of the colorway,  there is the hard, or glossy plastic outsole  that supports the instep. It will always be printed with a raised Balenciaga logo, and will be surrounded with the shoe's rubber treading.

3. Balenciaga Triple S Brand Logo Embroidery

1) The Balenciaga  Triple S Trainers feature the signature logo in four places: on the knit upper, back counter, rubber outsole and sockliner.

While you should be wary of any inconsistencies in the font, the logo is embroidered on very firm leather, so there will be variances between shoes.  But pay special attention to the font itself, specifically the G, C and the pitch of the As to make sure they are consistent with the brand's logo. The As should also feature a flat top.

Look to printed logos on the toe box, sock liner and outsole instep for assessing the shoe's authenticity.

2) Compare the logo to photos of original Balenciaga sneakers. The characters have fuzzier lines on the fake with letters that are sparser, whereas the original ones are very clear. And if you find uneven letters, thinner font or imperfect inclining on the fake.

4. The Shoe Toe

1) Shoe size stitching on toe, density of mesh, material of black leather part. The mesh on an original shoe has high gauze density, while its black leather part has oval ends of soft corners (no defined angles). The leather part should be made from soft lambskin, which should feel soft and comfortable. The font of size stitching on the leather should also be thick and bold on the sneakers.

2) Another identifier on certain versions is the embroidered European size on the toe box. Ensure that the size on the toe matches the size printed on the sockliner and tongue tag, whether it is internal or external and the font should be consistent.

3) The number on the fake is usually stitched poorly. When comparing it with a real trainer you will notice the stitching is tighter and much neater.

5. The Triple S logo on Tongue

1) Inspect the Triple S logo on the tongue flap of your Balenciaga shoes. Notice the difference between the matte finish of the real logo and the glossy finish of the fake Balenciaga logo. The word on a fake is glossier and more plasticky looking.

2) Low quality fake Balenciaga shoes would also fail on copying the authentic shape of the letters. The fake Triple S logo looks much thinner than the original one, compare the letters.

6. The Size Tag

1) The size tag text of tongue's inside part is another important detail. Balenciaga used to produce their trainers in Italy, but a couple of years ago they announced that they are moving the production to China. The majority of Triple S sneakers are made in China.

Triple S sneakers that are made in Italy do exist, but they are rare. The technical skill needed to make a complicated performance sneaker is readily available in China. If the shoe is made in China, it will not be listed on the sockliner, likely just on the tongue tag or - on some versions - on an interior side tag.

2) As for the font, the fake has slightly bigger letters and fuzzier shapes. It means that the letters are not as clear, and appear to look more blurry. The real font is more clear, but also small.

3) Observe here the stitching and the fonts. The stitching should be clean, each separate sew equal in size and shape to every other one. However, it is also quite big. While the fake pair has smaller and much messier stitching.

7. The Heel of  Balenciaga Triple S

1) Look at the back of Triple S sneakers, the leather quality is not up to scratch and the edges of the leather trim are too rough. Where the white mesh touches the highest midsole there are glue stains on some fakes that aren't seen on the authentic shoe.

2) Logo on heels of the Triple S sneakers. The positioning of the “Balenciaga” at the bottom appears to be too low down as well. The logo should be sharp.  Look carefully the pictures below to see all the details, the stitching in the back, the leather and the sole with the‘Balenciaga’ engraving.

8. The Insole

1) A real trainer will have the Balenciaga logo embossed onto the sole, the fakes tend to have a sticker that show the logo. And some fakes might not have anything at all on the insole.

2) The Triple S's sockliner is different than the Speed Trainers', and more substantial since the shoe's weight requires more support. Its top fabric is bonded to a foam bottom, which should have a pattern of curvilinear lines running through it. The cheap fake one does not have the same level of detailing. And the edges are also not so smooth.

9. The Sole

The details of the sole that you should remember well to spot fake trainers are the shape of the bottom, the color and the 'balenciaga'  logo engraving. On an original, the word 'Balenciaga' has a deep impression on the bottom of the soles. The sole material of different Baenciaga Triple S' versions will vary. If you get used with the image of the real  'Balenciaga' Triple S Trainers then you will easily know when you face a fake.

10. The Box of Balenciaga Triple S

If your Balenciaga Triple S shoes come with a box, do a quick search online to see if the listed style code matches the actual shoe, and make sure there is a legitimate release for that colorway. Different colors are released in different countries, so there are many possibilities. The style code will be a series of numbers and letters - featured here is 483513-W06F1-9080 - which corresponds to the white, grey and yellow colorway. Codes will vary depending on men's and women's versions of the shoe, even for the same colorway, so take note of that as well when searching.
