Is awin a good affiliate program? Today I'll give you an overview of the Awin company as well as its pros and cons, equipping you with the knowledge required to make the decision of being an affiliate with Awin or not.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a method of earning money by recommending and promoting somebody else’s products or service. For every sale that is made directly from your promotions, you will receive a commission payment. How much you earn depends on the commission levels set by the advertiser and how many products you sell.
The process of affiliate marketing is straightforward:
Potential customer lands on the website of the publisher (the affiliate)
Customer clicks an affiliate link that takes them to a landing page detailing the advertiser's product
Customer buys product
The publisher earns a percentage of the sale as a commission
The affiliate link the customer clicks on has a unique code recognized as belonging to the publisher. The advertiser (the merchant whose product is being promoted by the publisher) tracks the code and pays out accordingly.
Affiliate marketing starts with the advertiser and ends with the customer. The publisher acts as the middleman, selling the advertiser’s product or service to the customer.
Terminology used in affiliate marketing
Although there are only four parties involved in affiliate marketing each goes by several different names, which can be confusing. To clarify, here are some of the names you may come across:
Advertiser: The person or company who owns the product. Other names include merchant, owner, seller, brand, retailer, creator, vendor.
Publisher: The person or company who promotes and sells the advertiser’s product. Other names include affiliate, marketer and affiliate marketer. This can be an individual who promotes through a website/blog, email, social media or YouTube, or it could be a large company who runs several different websites or businesses.
Affiliate network: A company that acts as the middle man between advertisers and publishers, providing a platform for publishers to sign up to affiliate programs of their choice. You may also hear them referred to as an affiliate marketplace.
Customer: The person who ultimately buys the product. Other names include buyer, consumer, shopper or client.

What Are The Benefits Of Awin Affiliate For Advertisers?
Widening the audience: Every publisher that the advertiser works with has a unique and new audience. When they promote the advertisers’ products, they are exposing them to this potentially untapped market place.
Connecting with relevant content producers :As an advertiser, it can be hard to find individual connections to websites that would have a strong affinity with your brand. Working with Awin, it is able to connect each advertiser with over 200,000 active publishers globally.
Cost effective:Advertisers that use the cost per acquisition method are only paying commissions for conversions into sales. When using traditional advertising methods, there is never a guarantee of sales from the ads, but advertisers will have to pay for the ad regardless of whether they convert or not.
Quick results:If advertisers are working with trusted, experienced and successful publishers, results can be much faster than other forms of marketing.
Flexible:Due to the digital nature of the industry, affiliate marketing is flexible and can easily be run according to your brand KPIs, targets and performance metrics. Commissions can be calculated to ensure advertisers are not losing money and validation periods can be determined based on returns policies, which means the program can always run positively.
Build a brand reputation :The more the brand is promoted, the more well-known it will become. Publishers are often influencers as well whose audience trust them and, by default, they have confidence in any products they promote.
Easily trackable and measurable : Unlike other forms of advertising, affiliate marketing is easy to monitor and measure the success of the programs, allowing the advertiser to make appropriate changes if necessary. Tracking can be followed in real time, allowing marketing teams to provide accurate reporting and insights into the performance of their program across a variety of metrics.
Minimal risk : If products don’t sell, the advertiser does not pay a commission. The risk with this form of marketing is minimal so even if the advertiser is working with a wide range of publishers with a variety of performance metrics, they will not lose any money if some publishers don’t make any sales. This opens up the ability to test unknown or new propositions without fear of wasting budget or increasing cost per sale metrics.
SEO benefits:The more the brand and the products are exposed on the internet, the better the website will rank organically.
Reduce staffing costs:Affiliate marketing negates the need to have a robust in-house marketing team, helping to keep costs lower within the business.
Access to industry experts:Outside of Awin’s account management team, working with the network also gives advertisers and publishers access to the work of our support teams, like global strategy, technical services and business intelligence.
Sector insights and recommendations :Working with a large number of clients, Awin can identify shopping trends across data points like seasonality, sectors and climate, providing intuitive recommendations on what activity and promotions could work well for your brand.

How To Find Publishers (Affiliates) To Sell Your Products ?
Good publishers can make a great difference to an advertiser’s profits, so choosing the right ones are a major step in the process. They need to be an authority in the same niche as the products being offered by the advertiser and should have an active audience that engages with them on a regular basis.
In the early days, it may be a matter of advertisers working with a large number of publishers to discover those that are compatible with the products. For publishers to sign up to the affiliate program, it needs to be as visible as possible (with links on the website and on emails), and attractive as possible to potential publishers.
When choosing publishers a large following can be important, but how the audience interacts with the publisher is a key factor to consider. There should be regular exchanges and an excellent rapport between both parties, as this leads to greater trust and a greater likelihood that the audience will listen to the publisher and buy the products currently being promoted.
Advertising the affiliate program directly is one method of finding publishers, but one of the most straightforward ways is to find publishers through a network.
How To Find publishers Through Awin ?
Networks make it as easy as possible for advertisers’ affiliate programs to be found, by categorizing them within advertiser directories and including search keywords. On Awin, all affiliate program profiles are publicly viewable to make them as easily findable and accessible as possible.
Within the Awin interface there is also a publisher directory, which allows an advertiser to search for new publisher by sector, advertising type or keyword. You can then contact the publisher directly through this listing, or invite them to join your affiliate programme if they haven’t already.
Awin also offers some sound advice on making an affiliate program as attractive as possible to publishers. These tips include:
Fill in the advertiser profile as thoroughly as possible
Provide a clear and concise description of what is being offered
Offer an attractive commission rate
Make sure publishers are paid on time and within a reasonable timeframe
Include quality creatives for publishers to use
Make the most of all the extensive tools on offer, including product feeds and communication channels.
A unique feature of the Awin interface is the collation and visibility of CAVE data for each advertiser. This allows publishers to see at a glance an advertiser’s:
Conversion rate
Approval percentage
Validation period
Earnings per click
Awin index
This means publishers can easily assess if the advertiser will be good to work with and if they will be paid on time. The Awin index takes into account all of these metrics and offers the publisher a standardized percentage that can be used to compare across the network and advertiser sector.
Awin Tools For Advertisers
>>Cross device tracking
Awin's cross device tracking solution was developed to allow advertisers to reward publishers for multi-device journey transactions. The ability to track cross-device gives advertisers true understanding of how the performance channel drives customers, where previously anybody interacting with the channel across more than one device was instantly lost.
>>Voucher attribution
This feature allows an advertiser programme to give an exclusive voucher code to a publisher and track all transactions made using that code, even if no affiliate cookie is present, as well as if its been allocated to another channel by the advertiser. The publisher is rewarded commission for sales made using the exclusive code.
>>Commission flexibility
Awin's unique platforms offers a range of payment flexibility options which allows advertisers to collaborate with different types of publishers, across different campaigns or bringing new objectives into the affiliate channel. Within the interface there are a number of options:
Payment on Influence
Commission by Basket Value
CPC Campaigns
CPL or CPD Campaigns
>>Promotional tools
Awin's interface has a number of tools to aid with the promotion of each advertiser's affiliate programme. Each of these are part of our standard programme set up and should be available to use on all programmes on the Awin network.
>>SingleView
Unlike other attribution technology, SingleView requires no complicated technical integration. Sitting in Awin’s first-party tracking solution MasterTag, it easily empowers brands to assess which combinations of media formats deliver the best return on advertising spend (ROAS). Built using game theory, the technology offers entirely impartial recommendations, drilled down to individual partners and campaigns.

How To Use Awin Affiliate To Create An Income
There are three main ways to create an income using AWIN Affiliate links:
Blogging (writing articles)
Paid Ads
Social Media
Let’s look at these three techniques in more detail.
1.Blogging
The highest conversion rates often come from affiliate links embedded in articles. The reason this promotion strategy works so well is that the affiliate links are in context.
When you share valuable tips, you establish trust and credibility with your reader. And that will also increase the chances of you making a sale from that affiliate link.
So in-depth articles are the best way to market affiliate products. This is because you:
Attract targeted visitors
Add value to the reader
Establish trust and credibility with the reader
2.Paid Ads
As with links in a blog post, paid ads can also be highly targeted, especially if you’re using Facebook Ads.
One advantage of paid ads in affiliate marketing is that it’s easy to work out the Return On Investment (ROI):
ROI = Affiliate Commissions minus Cost of Ad
Armed with this equation, you just need to experiment with these three elements:
Affiliate product,
Advertising platform
Ad copy
Through trial and error, you’ll find a combination where profits exceed costs.Once you find that combination, just rinse and repeat. But before buying ad space, check the Advertiser’s terms and conditions. Find out if they allow paid ads, and if so, what conditions they have.
3.Social Media
Posting on social media can also be an effective way of promoting affiliate links. But as with paid advertising, check your Advertiser’s terms and conditions first.
If using an affiliate link on social media, you should mask the link using a plugin such as Pretty Links. This is partly because some social media platforms don’t allow ‘raw’ affiliate links. But also because you have limited space on social media and affiliate links can be very long.
How To Use AWIN Affiliate’s Deep Linking
What's Deep links?

Working with coupon affiliate marketing sites is a great way to drive revenue. Many of the affiliate programs on Awin offer a mix of coupons and cashback publishers.
2.Optimize LP and CTA’s
Running different versions of the same landing page is crucial. Simple changes can have a big effect on the conversion rate of a page. The landing page should provide clear signals on the process to follow. The point is to set the directions and all tell prospects what to do.
Vary the type of call-to-action, include contextual linking, banners and different buttons. Make tests to acknowledge what is more accurate to the audience’s preferences.
3.Work with super-affiliates and influencers
Choosing the right partners is crucial to the success of your affiliate program.

3.Keep in contact

How Does Awin Pay Commissions?
AWIN pays accumulated commissions twice a month — on the 1st and the 15th of every month.
On the 1st of every month an affiliate receives all commissions that were validated up until the 15th of the previous month.
On the 15th of each month, the affiliate receives all commissions that were validated up until either the 30th or 31st of the previous month.
However, there is an exception to this schedule.
AWIN requires Advertisers to make advance deposits. These deposits cover commission payouts for the following two-week period. AWIN only pays out commissions that are covered in this way by the Advertiser.
Recently, AWIN introduced the ‘traffic light system’. This system tells you if an Advertiser has enough funds to cover affiliate payouts:
Green: means the advertiser is within their credit limit. In this case, you would be paid according to the schedule outlined above.
Amber:means the advertiser falls outside of their credit limit. In this case, you would only be paid once AWIN has received payment from the advertiser.
Red :means the Advertiser is either bankrupt or has excessive credit levels.
You can see the ‘traffic lights’ in the Advertisers directory, in the column marked ‘Payment Status’:
How Does Awin Track The Sales?
When a visitor clicks on your affiliate link, they get taken to the Advertiser’s product page.
Three things then happen:
AWIN records the click and drops a tracking cookie on the visitor’s device.
The visitor purchases an item from the Advertiser’s website. The Advertiser’s order confirmation page contains the AWIN conversion tracking code. And that code sends a request to AWIN.
AWIN links the Advertiser conversion request with a cookie on the visitor’s device.
AWIN then records the sale and credits it to your account. The sale information includes the:
Advertiser ID
Referring Publisher ID
Unique Order Reference
Total sale amount
Commission breakdown
Note that AWIN uses ‘last referrer’ tracking. This means that the sale is credited to the most recent referring Publisher.
Who AWIN Affiliate Is Most Suited For?
AWIN is best suited to people already well-versed in affiliate marketing who don’t need a lot of guidance. As mentioned above, response times from AWIN can be slow. So someone new to affiliate marketing, with lots of questions may end up frustrated.Though AWIN is now a global network, the company has its roots in Europe.
