The Surface Pro 7 is a solid iteration of Microsoft's flagship Windows-tablet 2-in-1, elevated this time by worthy upgrades in the form of a USB-C port and peppy "Ice Lake" CPUs. No matter which configuration you land on, each Surface Pro 7 has 10th-generation Intel chips and an improved 12.3-inch high-res touchscreen with a document-friendly 3:2 aspect ratio. You also get a USB-A port, a magnetic charging port, a Windows Hello–compatible webcam, and a MicroSD slot for expanding the onboard storage. The Pro 7 update adds a long-overdue USB-C port, but it does not support Thunderbolt 3.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 combines the portability of a tablet with the performance of a laptop, thanks to its 10th Gen Intel Core processor, Wi-Fi 6 (802.1ax) connectivity, and the USB Type-C port. It is perfect for someone who wants a powerful Windows 2-in-1 that combines a tablet and laptop experience. But the Surface Pro 7's battery life takes a step back from the previous-gen model. In addition, the Surface Pro 7’s design feels a little dated, especially when you compare it to the Pro X.

| #2 Surface Pro X
Google Users Rating: 4.2/5
Microsoft: starting from $999.99 (up to 7% cashback)
Bestbuy: starting from $999.99(up to 1% cashback)
The Surface Pro X is arguably the best-looking Surface 2-in-1 Microsoft offers. Thin bezels surround a gorgeous 13-inch display, built-in LTE connectivity — and an optional keyboard and Microsoft Pen accessory pack converts it from a tablet to a full-on laptop. But it is also the most controversial Surface. Before you buy a Surface Pro X, you must understand its limitations. Instead of using Intel’s latest processor, the Surface Pro X uses an ARM-based processor developed in partnership with Qualcomm. Given that the selection of Windows apps designed for ARM processors is relatively small, you'll need to be sure the apps you use most are among them before committing.
The benefits of switching to an ARM processor have improved battery life and performance gains. Microsoft claims 15 hours of battery life for the Surface Pro X, which is nearly 50% more than the Surface Pro 7. However, until developers build their apps to support the different processors, some apps simply won’t work, while other apps will run, but are often sluggish and buggy. In addition, the Surface Pro X offers LTE Advanced Pro through a nano-SIM, but the device only has two USB-C ports and one Surface Connect port. No headphone jack or anything else.
PROS | CONS |
Sleek, premium design | Some app compatibility issues with the ARM processor |
Portable and versatile | No more microSD slot |
Better performance | Lacks 5G or Wi-Fi 6 support |
Will get Windows 11 | Expensive |
LTE connectivity via eSIM
Dolby Audio | |

| #3 Surface Go 2
Google Users Rating: 4.5/5
Microsoft: starting from $399.99 (up to 7% cashback)
Bestbuy: starting from $399.99 (up to 1% cashback)
The Surface Go 2 is by far the smallest and most affordable Surface device in the lineup with a 1.7 GHz Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y dual-core processor. A 10.5-inch display and an overall weight of just 1.2 pounds for the tablet portion make it easy to move around the house with or pick up and take to class. Like all other Surface tablets, the Surface Go 2 comes with its own built-in kickstand for watching videos hands-free or working when you attach the Type Cover. With the optional keyboard and pen support, you can still convert it from a svelte-looking tablet to a miniature laptop with some serious netbook vibes. The Surface Go 2 has a full complement of premium features, including an infrared camera that supports Windows Hello facial recognition, a backlit keyboard on the Type Cover, and LTE options that reinforce the Go part of the name.
The starting price for the Surface Go 2 is around $399, but at this price, performance is severely compromised. At $630, you can get a Surface Go 2 with an Intel Core M3, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of solid-state drive (SSD) storage. It is worth mentioning that the Surface Go comes pre-installed with Windows 10 in S Mode. That means you can only use the tablet in the operating system’s touchscreen mode and only use apps from the Windows Store. You’re also limited to Microsoft’s Edge browser.
PROS | CONS |
Versatile as a tablet and laptop | The base model's specs are weak |
Thinner bezels streamline design | Windows 10 S Mode has its limitations |
Bright, colorful (and bigger) screen | Disappointing battery life |
Sharp front-facing webcam | Only one USB-C port |
Optional 4G LTE | |
Lightweight and portable
Affordable |
