Official Price: $94.97-$140

A revival of early-2000s aesthetics, Nike’s P-6000 is a retro low-top runner that is locked down by a technical look and feel. Nike V2K Review

1st Release Year: 2000s

Official Price: $77.97-$160

Nike has been riding the Y2K trend by coming up with some new and older models like the Vomero 5, the P-6000 and the less known Initiator, all featuring modern, retro inspired designs. The V2K was released as a spin off of the Vomero 5 (hence the V in the name).

Fine-tuning the design of the vintage Vomero 5 for the future, this shoe is a soon-to-be sensation of its own with its heritage-honed plastic and polished, modern metallic accents. A dual-density midsole and chunky heel render this retro remodel an immeasurably comfortable instant classic.

The V2K's oversized and beveled heel kept us wonderfully cushioned for hours on end, its nostalgic open cell mesh kept the interiors well-ventilated for summertime, and the TPU overlays took care of lateral support while adding depth to the look. The synthetic overlays add some style and durability. The tongue and the heel collar are lightly padded which add the standard, plushy feel you get from a classic pair of sneakers. For its reasonable price point, there is a lot to unpack in this Nike sneaker!

Nike Zoom Vomero 5 vs. P-6000 vs. V2K: The Key Differences

1. Comfort and Fit

Nike Zoom Vomero 5 - Comfort is a critical aspect of any sneaker, and the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 excels in this department. It is equipped with a full-length Zoom Air unit that provides a smooth, responsive ride. The cushioning is plush yet not overly soft, striking a perfect balance for comfort during long runs. The upper is designed with breathable mesh that offers a secure fit while keeping the feet cool and comfortable.Additionally, the padded tongue and collar provide added comfort, reducing the risk of irritation during extended use.

One standout feature is the shoe’s spacious toe box. It accommodates various foot shapes, making it a go-to option for those with wider feet or who prefer a less constricted fit.

Nike P-6000 - While this sneaker doesn’t have an air compartment like the Air Max collection Nike is renowned for, you’ll find there is no sacrifice to comfort or support.Crafted with a cushioned insole, this sneaker is still what it is at its core: a performance sneaker, making it the perfect go-to for long days walking (or even jogging!).

The Nike P-6000 fits true to size with a roomy toe box that will even accommodate those with wider feet. Going a half size up for wide footers is still a good idea to be on the safe side, given that the shoes get a bit narrow in the front. The way the shoe is built wraps around nicely to your feet with no need to break them in. Overall they are not narrow as many Nike runners are so they are very comfortable from the get go.

Nike V2K - Nike V2K Run generally fits true to size.In addition, the toe box is roomy. It provides enough space for your toes to move comfortably, especially for people with wider feet. They are very comfortable shoes that you can wear in your daily errands, to the gym, in or out of the city. They have a slightly lower profile than the Vomero 5 and they feature the Cushlon foam which is one of the best Nike has to offer in terms of cushioning and energy return. They provide excellent arch support throughout the day for long hours of wear.

2. Performance

When it comes to performance both the Nike V2K and the Vomero 5 do a great job in terms of comfort, lockdown and stability given by the cushioning tech available and the plastic parts in the midfoot . These features add versatility to both of these sneakers. However the difference is made by the Vomero 5 two Air Zoom units placed in the heel and forefoot. This takes this model to another level of versatility , being a great running shoe, even 14 years after its release. So if you are looking for a shoe that you can also take to the gym or for long walks or runs, the Vomero 5 is the way to go in my opinion.

While the Nike P-6000 draws inspiration from classic running shoe designs, it is more accurately categorized as a lifestyle sneaker rather than a dedicated performance running shoe. The shoe does not feature any special technology , being made of an engineered EVA foam that feels great in terms of cushioning. The outsole features a rubber material that provides excellent grip, certainly good enough for an everyday shoe. It is a very versatile shoe so yes, you can take it to the gym and do short or slow paced runs with them but this is not where they excel. They do not have a ZOOM unit as the Vomero 5 do and also the chunky heel can be bothersome for long runs.

3. Durability

As mentioned above Vomero 5 and V2K feature similar materials so it is much of a tie in this regard. While the leather overlays are made of synthetic materials they hold up very well, with the seams and the TPU cages and plastic shank doing a great job in holding the shoes together. However, because of the retail price the V2K may have a slight advantage in this regard.

While Nike P-6000 sneakers have a sporty appearance and take inspiration from running models, they were originally designed as lifestyle shoes rather than dedicated running shoes. The cushioning and support are not sufficient for intense running sessions. If these sneakers are worn casually daily, the shoes might last around 1 to 3 years. With hard activities, including running or any other sports, the shoes might last for a lower lifespan, which is around a year.

Conclusion: Which One Should You Choose?

The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is more than just a sneaker; it’s a testament to Nike’s ability to blend performance with style. Its retro-futuristic design, combined with advanced comfort and durability features, makes it a standout choice in a crowded market. For those seeking a reliable, stylish, and comfortable sneaker, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is undoubtedly worth considering.

Nike V2K is a more affordable alternative to the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 ("V" stands for Vomero because it was supposed to be the updated version of that shoe). However,it is not a performance running shoe but rather an everyday sneaker that you can wear pretty much everywhere. It does not feature a Zoom unit like the much more expensive Vomero 5 but for its purpose you do not really need it.

Nike kills two birds with one stone with the P-6000. A sneaker that won’t feel out of place in your rotation while still being comfortable enough to actually be your absolute everyday go-to. ts seamless blend of retro-inspired design elements with modern comfort features makes it a standout choice for sneaker enthusiasts and casual wearers alike. Beyond its stylish appearance, the P-6000 offers exceptional value, providing a combination of quality craftsmanship, comfort, and performance at an accessible price point. Whether you’re exploring city streets, embarking on long walks, or simply looking to elevate your everyday style, the Nike P-6000 delivers on all fronts. With its undeniable comfort, timeless aesthetic, and impressive versatility, this sneaker proves to be a worthy addition to any footwear rotation. If not convinced and looking for a cheaper alternative, the Nike Initiator is one worth checking out.
