What Does YSL Libre EDP Smell Like?

After a tart, citrusy opening, its lavender comes forth as a fizzy, peppery blast. Along with a generous dose of ambergris, the effect is crisp and aromatic. A fresh and fluffy vanilla, then, creates a couterpoint of prettiness – reinforced by delicate, citrusy-sweet orange blossom. This accord not only prevents the scent from smelling like aftershave, but actually manages to make the final effect very feminine – in a modern, bright and energetic way.

Light and unobtrusive, with a synthetic soft-fruity opening. On a closer look, though, you could be surprised by its pleasant, well-composed accords and unique character.

It's fun to have an aromatic lavender & ambroxan-featuring scent that manages to smell so feminine and pretty, just as well as crisp and energetic – and that the resulting fragrance isn't loud and challenging with those contrasts, but satiny-smooth, light and absolutely easy and pleasant to wear.

Who & Where It's For?

YSL Libre Eau de Parfum is marketed as a women's fragrance, but all fragrances are truly gender-neutral. Fragrance preferences are highly personal, and individuals of any gender can wear it if they enjoy the scent.

Libre is also suitable for any occasion, from casual daytime wear to formal nights out. Libre especially shines as a professional office fragrance, where its sophisticated and confident vibe aligns perfectly with a business setting.

How Long Does YSL Mon Paris EDP Last?

What Does YSL Mon Paris EDP Smell Like?

This fragrance was launched in 2016 by perfumers Olivier Cresp, Harry Fremont and Dora Baghriche. This is the firm's first floral chypre bet, and it was the subject of intense expectations. A fragrance on which freshness and floral sweetness are projected, soft and intense, luminous and cloudy, a magnetic perfume, sensual and at the same time, fun and cheerful.

On top, a delicious red-fruity accent drags your senses into a blooming floral heart: a bouquet of datura flowers and elegant white peonies. The datura is a flower that reveals its narcotic essence by night: fresh, dewy, dizzying. Thanks to the Headspace technology, the perfumers can capture and recreate its essence without needing to harvest it, leaving its mysterious presence untouched.

Deeper within lies the white patchouli for unconditional sensuality. A fraction of the brightest facet of a rare patchouli is used in MON PARIS. Combined with exceptional white musks, they fuse into a unique structure that feels aerated and clean yet extremely sensual. The pairing of such precious ingredients unleashes the most long-lasting trail of desire.

Who & Where It's For?

Mon Paris is such a beautiful and versatile fragrance. It can easily suit women of any age and works well for any occasion from casual to fancy. It works well throughout all of the different seasons. The sweet and fresh fruity floral notes being perfect for spring through early fall, and the deeper warm and spicy notes being perfect for the colder months.

All in all, if you like extremely sweet scents byt stull wearble during anytime of the year, this is it.

YSL Libre vs. Mon Paris

Mon Paris opens up with berries, pear, and other citrus notes. It’s a floral perfume, but much of the wear is actually pretty fruity in its presentation. Underneath that, are the floral notes of datura flower and peony. As things progress, they will take over more of the composition.

Libre also opens with a bit of citrus. However, it is much more floral from the start. Orange blossom and lavender are the main highlights at the start. The lavender is going to end up being the main focus of this fragrance, though.

Libre feels soapier and musky versus the berries and nice datura note, that comes with Mon Paris.

Both of these fragrances have above average sillage. Mon Paris is more in the moderate camp, while Libre is definitely what you could term as strong.

On the skin, Mon Paris goes 6-8 hours. Libre, again has the greater strength, at over 10 hours of full wear. Plus, Libre keeps its power up for a longer period of time.

Also, neither is very formal. Both are best for daily wear or casual wear and are quite versatile within that setting.

ProsCons
Balanced fruity notesToo sweet for some noses
Clean and not heavy patchouliOverpowering fruity-floral scent
Good for any age
Safe for work

Scent Type: Oriental Vanilla

Top Notes: Pear, Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom

Middle Notes: Coffee, Jasmine, Bitter Almond, Licorice

Base Note: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cashmere Wood, Cedar

How Long Does YSL Black Opium EDP Last?

4-6 Hours.

What Does YSL Black Opium EDP Smell Like?

Black Opium briefly opens with fresh, sweet pear, to soon showcase its "novelty" element – coffee. Rather than smelling like a realistic espresso, this is more a suggestion of coffee – deep yet smooth, with nutty-sweet hints of almond and licorice. Adding a more "perfume-y" tone, Black Opium also features fuzzy pink pepper, and a touch of bright yet vague white florals (mostly orange blossom), contrasting the coffee-led gourmand accord.

The base is all about patchouli & vanilla – and lots of it. The patchouli is free of herbal-minty tones, but still feels "grittier" than a full Chanelesque take on the note. It smells earthy, slightly bitter, and melts seamlessly with the coffee. The vanilla, on its turn, is sweet and creamy. Many people find it the dominant note in Black Opium, and, to my nose, it feels indeed intense, yet balanced by the patchouli. Still, this prominent vanilla definitely adds to the ultimately sweet, gourmand-ish character of Black Opium, and steers it away from feeling truly as dark as its marketing suggests.

This fragrance blends the intoxicating scent of coffee with the sweet scent of Vanilla and white florals for a modern, young and vibrant interpretation of addiction. Energy, sensuality, coupled with that unique YSL edge.

Who & Where It's For?

A lovely rounded, musky-vanilla accord, with plenty of activity - floral blossom, patchouli, woods, and faint, bright fresh coffee grounds (not espresso, but proper coffee). It is quite sweet and heady, but the florals keep it light and feminine. It is a mildly sexual scent, more evening than daytime, though each to their own. It carries a sweetness that's just slightly heavier in tone than typical dessert gourmand fragrances. Strongly rooted in the mainstream of the genre. Black Opium was the first to kick off an era of many similar flankers.

ProsCons
Perfect for winter seasonResembles nothing of the original Opium fragrance
Initial dark and mysterious scent
Enjoyable for those who like cream in their coffee
Feminine with personality
