About GameSir G7 SE

GameSir improved over the original G7 with greater ergonomics and hall effect joysticks. You're still restricted by a wire, however, and the G7 SE confusingly does away with the awesome microswitch face buttons in the original G7.

The G7 SE is physically nearly identical to the original G7. It has the exact same layout of buttons and the same shape, to the point where it uses the identical magnetic faceplates from the G7. You'd be hard-pressed to ever be able to tell the difference between these controllers unless you were intimately familiar with the changes. Those changes are few, but they are important. Here's what's new with the GameSir G7 SE:

  • The controller grips are now more ergonomic, thanks to an increase in thickness where it curves into the triggers;

  • The two rear remappable buttons now have switches that lock them in place;

  • The joysticks now use hall effect sensors, which should eliminate the risk of stick drift developing over time;

  • The D-Pad and face buttons no longer use microswitches, and now have more traditional, mushier actions.

In all other ways, the GameSir G7 SE is utterly identical to the original GameSir G7.

Key Differences:

GameSir G7

The G7 controller may look like a normal Xbox Series S/X controller from the surface, but it has a few neat tricks up its sleeve to impress. With 256Hz polling rate, 0.004s input latency, Hall Effect analog triggers, mechanical micro-switches, anti-friction glide rings, four rumble motors (with one each on both the triggers), volume and microphone controls, two programmable back buttons, a feature rich companion app, and an included paint-friendly faceplate to customize, the GameSir G7 is packed with features, and performs equally well.

The anti-friction glides for the joystick, the Hall Effect analog triggers, re-mappable side paddles, comfortable and fantastic build quality, and an excellent companion app truly makes the G7 a complete all-round package. If you are in the market for an extra Xbox controller, the G7 is a no-brainer.

GameSir has made a series of upgrades to G7. G7 SE and HE are upgraded versions of G7. If you want a better gaming experience, you can consider G7 SE or HE.

Which One Should You Buy?

Overall, the G7 series controllers is a great option for those looking for a new pad and don’t mind being tethered to the console. With the option to customise not only inputs but the face cover itself, this could be a great way for kids to get into gaming with their own, custom designed controller too.

If you already have The GameSir G7 or The GameSir G7 SE, I personally think you don’t need to upgrade to the latest device. But if you don’t have The GameSir G7 yet, you can directly buy the latest model The GameSir G7 HE, which is only $8 more expensive.

How About GameSir G7 Faceplate Customization?

If all of those features, changes and improvements haven’t yet convinced you about the G7, then GameSir hopes that customizing the faceplate might push you over the edge. Each G7 controller comes with a white swappable faceplate that is paint-friendly and can be customized to just how you want the controller to look if you have the necessary talent as an artist.

If you are blessed with a steady hand and a wild imagination, you can paint on the faceplate to truly make the controller your own. It is dye-friendly, so you can dip it into your favorite mixture and have a unique looking controller almost instantly. Instead of selling you different faceplate colors and styles, GameSir simply lets you do it yourself.

How About GameSir Nexus App?

The GameSir Nexus App (available on both PC and Xbox) is a necessary install if you want granular control over the G7. It is not a must-have as most of the options can be operated from the controller itself, but there are few neat features that you might want to look into.

The ‘Mappings’ section on the app allows you to remap each and every button on the controller, and that includes the start and select buttons as well (the Xbox home and the share buttons are off the menu). You can also disable any of the buttons if you like. The UI is extremely well laid-out and easy to use, and this goes for the overall app as well which is also resource friendly and quite stable.

The ‘Sticks’ section allows you to adjust the deadzone on the joysticks, as well as allow you to swap the left stick and the D-pad with each other (why?), and diagonally lock the D-pad. The deadzone configuration also has a special ‘Raw’ mode which entirely disables the outer radial which may offer higher precision and speed in some games. I could not notice any difference between the default and Raw modes, but someone who is more in-tune with the feel of the joysticks may find it advantageous.

The ‘Triggers’ menu allows you to define the range at which the triggers will initiate. Since these are analog triggers, you can set a particular range, or the amount of pressure applied on the trigger before it executes an in-game command. You can also enable the Hair Trigger mode, which can also be done on the controller itself by pressing the M + trigger button until it vibrates.

Finally, the ‘Vibration’ menu allows you to set the intensity of each of the four rumble motors, as well as force them to vibrate whenever the triggers are pressed regardless of the in-game settings.

The app allows you to store up to three profiles, and swap between them whenever you like. This can also be done via the controller itself if you have different button and trigger configurations for different games.
