ASICS Gel Nimbus 24 Review

Release Year: 2022

Price: $95 to $239.95(@Amazon)

The ASICS Gel-Nimbus 24 is a super soft max cushioned trainer with a versatile ride. The shoe is built for the long haul as it makes you feel like you are running on a cloud.Creating a softer landing in every step, this shoe is also approx. 20g lighter than the previous version. FF BLAST PLUS cushioning keeps the shoe lightweight while providing a softer feeling underfoot. This material also helps increase the shoe's rebound properties at the toe-off stage. Its new Trusstic technology (under the foot arch) prevents the foot from twisting as you step, which is good news for overpronators. So this shoe is not only suitable for heel strikers, also for runners who land more on their midfoot or forefoot. The upper’s soft engineered mesh and flexible midfoot panel make these shoes more comfortable during long runs.

I think the Nimbus 24 is the right shoe for you if you want a bit more plush daily trainer and it’s also a good shoe for runners who’ve just started out and are looking for just that one shoe that they can do all their workouts in.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 25 Review

Release Year: 2023

Price: $129.95(@ASICS)

The main difference between the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 running shoes and the Asics Gel Nimbus 24 is that the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 has an overhauled midsole with a higher stack height and lower heel-to-toe drop for a more consistent and comfortable ride.It is a high mileage running shoe that prioritises protection underfoot – catering to neutral foot types lacing up for daily training, recovery runs or longer sessions out on the road.

The new midsole design features a single layer of FF BLAST PLUS ECO cushioning, replacing the FLYTEFOAM and FF BLAST PLUS technologies used in the previous model. ccording to Asics, this more eco-friendly cushioning technology is made with a minimum of 20% bio-based material - putting renewable resources into play to run lighter on the environment.

This new Asics running shoe features a re-engineered outsole – removing flex grooves to work more harmoniously with the plushness of FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco.By raising the stack height by 6mm in the forefoot and 4mm in the rearfoot, the Gel Nimbus 25 shoe now features an 8mm stack height. This ensures superior comfort for long and short runs and everything in between. A breathable, more voluminous forefoot allows your feet to engage fully and expand naturally as you clock up the kilometres ahead. The stretchy knit tongue and heel counter provide a secure, distraction-free fit.

ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 Review

Release Year: 2024

Price: $160 to $180(@ASICS)

The main difference between the Asics Gel Nimbus 26 and Asics Gel Nimbus 25 running shoes is that the Asics Gel Nimbus 26 delivers increased performance, durability and traction with more outsole coverage, while the Asics Gel Nimbus 25 is fractionally lighter.

The Asics Gel Nimbus 26 is the flagship high mileage, neutral cushioned shoe in the Asics running shoe family – staying consistent to the honest, protected feel of its predecessors. This running all-rounder is both an excellent choice as the running shoe to conquer most of your Ks in, or as a soft daily trainer to complement your shoe rotation.

The midsole is also FF BLAST PLUS ECO cushioning. Here they added to the rearfoot PureGEL technology, a material that is lighter and 65% softer than conventional GEL technology, providing even softer landings. One great update to this version is the grippier outsole thanks to Ahar+ rubber. Not everyone will notice this so much, but if you run in the rain or do any road to gravel path, it’s a nice switch.Up top, a more breathable upper wraps your feet with a supportive, deep heel collar and soft memory foam. Asics have tweaked the fit to offer more wiggle room in terms of both depth and volume, with a new engineered knitted construction that adapts more readily to conform to your feet through the forefoot.

The Asics Gel Nimbus 26 is targeting the same runner as its predecessor. It's someone who is neutral with regards to their foot stability and also a person who is seeking maximum cushioning for plenty of kilometres out on the road.

2. Tech & Materials

1) The Upper

Asics Gel Nimbus 24 features an engineered jacquard mesh. The mesh tends to flex well, which gives you more room in the toebox for later on in your runs.On the Nimbus 24, the big change is the tongue. A super thin, stretchy, knitted tongue has replaced the normal thick, padded tongue. The thin tongue of the Nimbus 24 makes it a cooler shoe because it lets more air into the vamp of the shoe so this Nimbus might not be suitable for freezing cold temperatures.

The Nimbus 25 has a stretchy, smooth kind of knit that offers durability, softness, and a fit that feels customized to your foot.

The Nimbus 26 has a more comfortable upper than the 25 thanks to its redesigned upper which is wider in the forefoot and toe-box. The 26 also has more ventilation on the top of the toe-box so breathability is better in the 26.

2) The Outsole

There's not a lot that's changed in the Asics Gel Nimbus 24 from the Asics Gel Nimbus 23 so it's still the same configuration regarding the amount of flex grooves on offer through the forefoot, and the same configuration regarding the positioning of that outsole in the back half underneath your heel for heel strikers. There’s relatively little rubber on the outsole of the Nimbus 24 for a daily trainer. It has AHAR+ on the heel and softer AHAR on the forefoot.

The outsole of the Nimbus 25 has better durability than the Nimbus 24. Asics’ new PureGEL technology is one of the most evident and beneficial improvements for the GEL-NIMBUS 25. The gel is located in the shoe’s heel, providing superior shock absorption for smoother transitions and softer landings on strides. The Nimbus 26 has more aggressive lugs than 25 which are able to bite into surfaces better. This results in better traction in the Nimbus 26.

3) The Midsole

The Nimbus 24 uses FF Blast+ while the Nimbus 25 and 26 use the newer FF Blast+ Eco.The newer midsole foam is less susceptible to cuts and abrasions than the midsole foam in the Nimbus 24.

The Nimbus 24 has a thinner midsole which compresses much more easily than the Nimbus 25. The Nimbus 24 has better energy return so it feels more versatile than the Nimbus 25.The Nimbus 25 midsole is a lot thicker than the Number 24 so you get a higher level of cushioning. This feature makes it better for long runs. The Nimbus 26 has a slightly firmer ride but the difference is negligible.

Conclusion: Which is Best for You?

The three versions have a very similar feel and ride so the differences are minimal. The Gel-Nimbus 26 is for runners who want a supremely comfortable cruiser. With top-of-the-line comfort and impressive durability, this is a shoe that can eat up a lot of miles. You won't want it as a training partner in hard or fast workouts. But when the goal is to get in an easy effort, this is the shoe you'll love it.In addition to cushioning enthusiasts, the GEL-Nimbus 26 is also a great choice for anyone who spends long days on their feet.

The Nimbus 25 is the better option if you need a warmer upper for cold conditions or if you have a very narrow foot. It also weighs less than the Nimbus 26.

If you are looking for a very soft, versatile trainer that can pick up the pace, the Nimbus 24 is the shoe you should pick. The Nimbus 24 has a flexible forefoot with natural transitions.
