The YETI Roadie 24 cooler was launched in early 2020 as an altogether more practical choice for everyday use.The Roadie doesn’t come cheap at $250 and lacks a drain plug for dumping melted ice, but it’s another winner of a design from the brand.  It even serves a dual purpose, transforming into a convenient stool with an optional cushion attachment, perfect for lounging at our chosen spot while enjoying chilled beverages.

Although the Roadie only comes in a single 24-litre size, its interior volume, measuring approximately 40cm square and 30cm in height, provides ample space for transporting various items, including upright bottles of wine or two-litre bottles. Operating with plastic latches instead of rubber, the Roadie’s lid can be easily opened with one hand, while the carry handle can be adjusted for convenient access. A webbing handle adds comfort to over-arm carry, while indented side handles make it easier to port when heavy. Other highlights include non-slip rubber feet to minimize sliding, tie-down slots for securing to a boat or truck bed.The only notable omission is a drain plug for dumping melted ice.I found it difficult to drain the cooler without removing all food, which meant allowing warm air in whenever water began pooling at the bottom.Nonetheless, it’s an ideal companion for camping or road trips, better suited to such excursions than casual picnics.

Who is this cooler for: The Roadie 24 Hard Cooler is perfect for a road trip with an overnight camp with 2-3 people. Its size and format is perfect for throwing behind the front seat. It fits a bottle of wine standing up, and keeps your dinner and the next morning's eggs and bacon nice and fresh. However, the Roadie 24 isn't a cheap purchase. If you infrequently use a cooler and need something to keep things cool only a few times per year, the Roadie 24 might be overkill for your needs.

The Roadie 48 Hard Cooler is the perfect size for a weekend compound. It fits easily into the trunk, serves as an extra seat around the fire, and it’s tall enough to fit a wine bottle. The Roadie 48 is ultra-portable and ready to go. The telescoping Periscope Handle and NeverFlat Wheels make getting through crowds and tough terrain easy, even when fully packed. With enough capacity for 76 cans, this cooler is great for tailgates or a day out with the whole crew. And like the YETI Tundra Hard Cooler, this wheeled cooler is built to last a lifetime and hold ice for days thanks to its Permafrost Insulation.

When it’s set flat, the wheels don’t actually touch the ground, allowing the grips on the bottom of the cooler to keep it from moving, which means it's extra stable. It also comes with a dry goods insert for whatever you want to keep out of the ice (think charcuterie or cheese). It rolled easily over sand, gravel, dirt and grass. And more impressively, it navigated with aplomb over the roots and small rocks that jutted up throughout the trail.

YETI Roadie 24 vs. 32 vs. 48 vs. 60: Comparison Side by Side

1.Weight and Dimensions

The size of the cooler you want will depend upon your exact requirements and the time you’re planning to spend away from home. While you may want a cooler with a greater capacity, it’s also important to consider the ease of use and mobility.

Outside DimensionInside DimensionEmpty Weight
Roadie 2416.6×14"×17.4"10.8"×8.1"×13.4"13.1 lbs
Roadie 3221.3"×16.1"×18.3"15.7"×8.6"×13.5"24.5 lbs
Roadie 4819.8"×20.1"×20.6"14.5"× 11.4"×15.8"28.3 lns
Roadie 6023.7"× 20.1"×20.5"18.5"× 11.5"×15.8"30.6 lbs

2. Capacity

In case you have ever bought a Yeti cooler, then you know that the package comes with an owner's manual. The owner's manual contains a list of almost all of their models with the exact capacities in gallons and cans.

Below you’ll find all the necessary info on both the size and capacity of YETI Roadie 24,32,48 and 60 coolers. And that includes how much each weighs, how many cans each can carry, how much ice one holds etc.

Cans of Beer(Only)Pounds of Ice(Only)Bottle of Wine(Only)
Roadie 2433 cans26 lbs8 bottles
Roadie 3250 cans36 lbs14 bottles
Roadie 4876 cans54 lbs15 bottles
Roadie 6098 cans68 lbs19 bottles

3. Ice Retention

The truth is that all Yeti coolers come with the same ice retention property. You can enhance the ice retention performance of the cooler by packing it nicely and reducing frequent opening and closing of the lid.Other significant factors that can affect the ice retention performance are the outside temperature and weather conditions.

The Yeti Roadie 24,32,48 and 60 coolesr are all designed to keep your food and drinks cold for as long as possible. The Roadie 32,48 or 60 cooler has a slightly larger capacity, which allows you to store more food and drinks, and its thicker walls and improved insulation helps to improve ice retention. In comparison, the Roadie 20 cooler has slightly less storage space, but its compact size makes it easier to transport and store.

4. Portability

The larger size and capacity of the hardside Roadie coolers mean more weight. The Roadie 24 weighs 12.8 lbs. And that’s when it’s fully empty – put about 24 lbs of ice in the cooler, and you see how there’s no chance you could carry something that heavy in your arm for more than just a few minutes at a time.

The Roadie 32,48 and 60 collers stole my hearts when it came to its unbeatable portability. With its two large wheels and expandable handle, it transports much like a nice piece of luggage. The handle is comfortable in hand and expands to a length that works well for testers of various heights. Plus, the handle doesn't stick out when it is retracted. The wheels glide smoothly across various terrain types.

Conclusion: Which Cooler Should You Choose?

The Roadie 32,48 and 60 Wheeled Coolers are built with all-terrain wheels and a hefty handle for easy transport, whether you’re heading to the campground or hosting a beach picnic. The smallest Roadie 24 has a shoulder strap instead of wheels.

In the end, the choice among the YETI Roadie 24,32,48 and 60 coolers will come down to your personal needs and preferences. Consider your specific requirements and choose the cooler that is right for you.

If you have large family outings, I recommend the Roadie 60.If you have a smaller family with straightforward weekend outings, choose the Roadie 48.If you’re looking for a cooler to hold just the essentials for a day trip, the Roadie 24 is the way to go.The Roadie 24 has a strap for carrying but can be heavy to haul down the beach, and the Roadie 48 is overkill if it’s just a couple of friends and you. The Roadie 32 is about to be your summer companion.
