OREO Regular vs. Double Stuf vs. Mega Stuf vs. Most Stuf vs. Thins: Differences and Reviews 2025

OREO Regular vs. Double Stuf vs. Mega Stuf vs. Most Stuf vs. Thins: Differences and Reviews 2025

Since Nabisco's Oreo cookies are consistently the best-selling brand in the world, chances are you've wolfed down your fair share of these crispy, intensely chocolaty, creme-stuffed sandwich cookies. Everyone has a preference -- if not a strong opinion -- when it comes to the ideal amount of creme in an Oreo. But whether you're a Double Stuf devotee or sold on the Thins, Oreo wants to know about it. Its cookie options include "Most Stuf", "Mega Stuf", "Double Stuf", "Original Stuf" and "Thins". There's a lot to unpack here, so pour yourself a glass of milk.

What is Oreo? Oreo has become a favorite among children and adults alike.

Oreo is the best-selling cookie brand in the United States and, as of 2025, the best-selling cookie globally.

It’s no surprise “Milk’s Favorite Cookie” has mastered the art of unique-flavored cookies.

Oreo, the surprisingly vegan American sandwich cookie, is perfect in its classic rendition of two chocolate wafers stuck together with sweet crème filling.

In order to keep the brand fresh and stay at the top of shoppers' lists, Nabisco has released many variations on the original cookie over the years: about 85 flavors and takeoffs in all, from Jelly Donut and Key Lime Pie to Mint Chocolate Chip.

One aspect that Oreo variations often play around with is the filling. Since some cookie lovers want more of that yummy white creme sandwiched between the chocolate wafers, Oreo currently offers Double Stuf, with twice the amount of filling, and Mega Stuf, with an even thicker layer of creme inside, and more.

Fans of creme filling might enjoy such Oreo.

What is the Ratio of a Standard Oreo Cookie-to-Cream?

The standard OREO® cookie-to-cream ratio is 71% cookie and 29% cream.

This ratio has been in place since the cookie’s birth, ensuring each bite has the same flavor.

The chocolate wafer cookies offer a slight sweetness and satisfying crunch, while the creamy vanilla filling provides a smooth and rich taste.

This balance of flavors and textures has made OREO® cookies a favorite among snack lovers worldwide.

On average, approximately 5 grams of filling can be found inside one Oreo cookie.

Other Popular Variants of Oreo:What is Their Cookie-to-Cream Ratio?

#1. Oreo Thins

OREO Thins Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Oreo Thins, released in 2015, are thin versions of the original Oreo cookie.

Thins come in both chocolate and golden wafer varieties, with various crème filling flavors including dark chocolate, mint, lemon and tiramisu.

The fact that there is less cream in Thins means fewer calories in each serving.

Each cookie contains only 40 calories; they are 66% thinner than the original version.

At 10.1 ounces, the package is lighter than the normal 14.3 ounce package, at same cost.

#2. Double Stuf Oreo

OREO Double Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Introduced in 1974, the Double Stuf Oreo variety has about double the normal amount of crème filling as the original (although a math teacher calculated that Double Stuf Oreos only had 1.86 times the amount of cream of normal Oreos.)

Available with various flavors of crème filling: original, chocolate, peanut butter, cool mint, and birthday cake.

In the UK these are called Double Creme Oreos and are only available in original flavor.

The Golden Double Stuf Oreo, featuring golden Oreo wafers with a double portion of original vanilla-flavored crème, was introduced in 2009.

#3. Mega Stuf Oreo

OREO Mega Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Family Size, 17.6 oz

Mega Stuf Oreo, introduced in February 2013, are similar to Double Stuf Oreo cookies, but with even more white creme filling.

Mega Stuf is the same thickness as Double Stuf, which measures 14 millimeters. The additional creme was distributed across larger areas instead of being thicker overall.

In addition, based on the information provided on the packaging, each cookie had only a meager 15 additional calories compared to a Double Stuf.

They come in chocolate, golden and heads or tails varieties.

#4. The Most Stuf

OREO The Most Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Limited Edition, 13.4 oz Pack

Launched in January 2019, The Most Stuf started as a limited-edition Oreo with approximately four times the amount of crème filling of a standard Oreo.

Only 13 grams of cookie filling are contained in a Most Stuf Oreo. The Most Stuf held 3.5 times as much creme as the Originals, a little less than the four times claimed on the packaging.

After two limited runs, it was quietly brought back as a permanent product in the Fall of 2020.

While they were first offered in traditional Oreo packages and widely available when they were limited edition, the permanent version is only found in individual four-packs as well as 12 four-pack collections within convenience store settings.

Best OREO Cookies: How Do They Rank? Best to Worst Reviews

#1.  Classic Oreo (The Best)

(Nutritional Damage Report: 53.3 calories, 4.6g sugar per cookie | Serving size: Three Cookies)

OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Family Size, 18.12 oz

It was introduced by the National Biscuit Company (today known as Nabisco) on March 6, 1912, and both Nabisco and Oreo brand have been owned by Mondelez International since 2012.

While Oreo is actually an imitation of the Hydrox chocolate cream-centered cookie introduced in 1908, Oreos far outstripped Hydrox in popularity, so much so that many think Hydrox is an imitation of Oreo rather than the other way around.

Through extensive advertising and a trendy name, Oreo eventually surpassed Hydrox in popularity, which resulted in the Hydrox cookies being perceived as an Oreo off-brand.

Many people have grown up with Oreo cookies. The "twist or dunk" debate has been around for decades, with one side claiming that the chocolate sandwich cookie is best separated into two halves and eaten as such and the other side claiming that the treats are meant to be enjoyed by dunking them straight into a glass of milk. Whatever camp you are a part of, it is safe to say that most find the cookie delicious.

The classic OREO® cookie-to-cream ratio is 71% cookie and 29% cream. This specific ratio perfectly balances flavor and texture in every bite.

After all, it's a classic for a good reason. With the chocolate exterior and the creme interior, the separation of flavors makes for a delicious bite.

If you want the true duality of the oreo, experience, this is the sweet spot -- but not too sweet.

When you bite in, it gives you streaks of cookie, then creme, then cookie.

There's nothing wrong with this variety, but some may argue that it needs more filling in the middle.

#2.  Oreo Thins (The second-most interesting)

(Nutritional Damage Report: 35 calories, 3g of sugar per cookie | Serving size: Four Cookies)

OREO Thins Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Family Size, 13.1 oz

Oreo Thins are a "light, crisp, and delicate" take on the classic sandwich cookie.

The wafers are described as crisp and delicate. If the packaging is any indication, there's less wafer and creme filling per cookie.

While the original version is 12.5mm thick, Oreo Thins clock in at 7.5mm thick. The permanent offering is the thinnest Oreo sandwich cookie ever made, at 5mm thinner than a classic Oreo.

That's thinner than a standard pencil.

1689584998446189.jpg

Their circumference remains the same (so we're not quite in Mini Oreo territory), and they come in original, golden and mint varieties. They'll retail for $4.59.

It joins the ranks of the original Oreo, the Double Stuf Oreo and the Mega Stuf Oreo. Oreo first shared Thins with Chinese consumers in 2014 before deciding to sell them in the United States in 2015.

The creme-to-wafer ratio is about the same as a standard Oreo. Yes, Double Stuf enthusiasts, you're getting less of the sweet goodness as well as less of the chocolatey crisps. But it makes for an absolutely satisfying crunch.

The cookies are not being marketed as a "diet Oreo," though calorie-counters can rejoice that you can eat four Thins for 140 calories, while a serving of three regular Oreos is 160 calories.

You can now feel a little bit less guilty about eating Oreo cookies. Though, let's be real, we're probably just going to end up eating way more cookies than we normally would.

In case Oreos are too childish for you, Oreo Thins, is "a more grown-up option" versus the original.

This "grown-up treat" can pair with a cup of tea, an afternoon latte, or even a glass of whiskey in lieu of the classic milk-and-Oreo pairing.

"They're getting the hang of this cookie evolution thing," wrote one netizen. She calls it "straight-up sacrilege" that the Thins have less filling than even a regular Oreo, but writes, "The cookie and the stuf, however minimal, manage to retain a familiar crunch and creaminess, making Thins a grown-up take on a cookie we already know and love."

1689584899955906.jpg

Unlike every other cookie on this list, this Oreo gives you get the taste of chocolate, the cookie, over everything else.

There’s less snap and more crumble as the cookie gives way more easily when you bite down. It’s all one cohesive bite, with the creme staying in place the whole time.

The slender Oreos have also been designed to be less favorable for twisting open and dunking. We suggest pairing them with a latte or cup of tea rather than the traditional dunk into milk.

Oreo Thins seem to give fans of the cookie itself the opposite of other fan favorite Double Stuf: less cream filling. But be careful: The lower calorie count may lead you to eat an entire sleeve without a second thought.

#3. Double Stuf (Coming just short of No. 2)

(Nutritional Damage Report: 70 calories, 6.5g sugar per cookie | Serving size: Two Cookies)

OREO Double Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Family Size, 18.71 oz

Oreos are a timeless snack with no signs of slowing down in popularity.

If you like your Oreos with a ton of creme, you likely go right past the regular Oreos and straight to the Double Stuf cookies.

It’s similar in flavor balance to the classic. But overall, it’s a little brighter and sweeter.

The famous chocolate sandwich cookie with vanilla creme filling is the top-selling cookie across the globe. Whether you dunk your Oreos in milk or prefer them on the drier side, you've most likely caught yourself reaching for a pack of these sweet treats when needing a quick sugar fix. One of the most popular innovations to the classic cookie is undoubtedly the Double Stuf variety.

Naturally, you would expect a Double Stuf Oreo to have double the "stuf" than an original Oreo cookie. But does it really contain twice as much creme filling? One high school math class decided to find out once and for all.

He concluded these cookies only contain 1.86 times the cream of a regular Oreo. So in hindsight, you might as well go for that Double Stuf. It's only 1.86 times more sugar.

The birth of the Double Stuf Oreo changed the way you snack forever. This super-sized cookie overshadows the tired concept of a single stuffed Oreo. And I can think of nothing trendier than snacking on an oversized Oreo cookie. The filling acts as the sugary glue between two chocolatey cookie slices. Many people think that more cream equals a happier Oreo-eating experience.

Double Stuf cookies contain fewer calories per serving. With 140 calories per serving, the Double Stuf Oreo also holds fewer grams of carbohydrates. Meanwhile, the original Oreo holds 160 calories per serving. Follow the suggested serving size (three single stuffed Oreos, or two Double Stuf Oreos) and you'll be golden.

What's better than dunking an original Oreo into a cold glass of milk? Dunking a Double Stuf Oreo into a cold glass of milk. The thick amount of cream filling in one of these bad boys makes for more absorption of the milk, creating a creamier inside. And this makes a long-lasting cookie eating event.

Next time you're at a grocery store, look closely at the price of the Double Stuf Oreo. One might believe the single stuffed Oreo is cheaper. WRONG. According to Walmart, both kinds of cookies sell for $2.98. Spend the same amount for a better cookie-eating experience.

#4. Mega Stuf (Purely for the hedonist)

(Nutritional Damage Report: 90 calories, 8.5 g sugar per cookie | Serving size: Two Cookies)

OREO Mega Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Family Size, 17.6 oz

Oreos are an attempt at decadence and hedonism!

Deciding that Double Stuf or Triple Double is not enough, Oreo has decided to indulge the truly unbalanced of its fans and has issued Mega Stuf, which is otherwise a "Triple Stuf".

Mega Stuf Oreos would debut in 2013, which feature about 2.68 times the amount of creme as the original Oreo. This is a bit of a misnomer because “mega” is a unit prefix denoting a factor of ONE MILLION, and Mega Stuf Oreos sadly do not have one million times the amount of creme.

Unlike the Double Stuf, the creme filling oozes out.

It weighs 13.2 ounces, i.e., 340 grams, and many describe it as ridiculously large. The stuffing is so thick that it literally falls out of the cookie sandwich.

#5. Most Stuf Oreo (Fun to try. Once.)

(Nutritional Damage Report: 110 calories, 11 g sugar per cookie | Serving size: 1 Cookie)

OREO The Most Stuf Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, Limited Edition, 13.4 oz Pack

How much more, Oreo? First there were Double-Stuf Oreos, debuting all the way back in 1974. Frankly, for those who really, really love that Oreo filling, that seemed like plenty. Not enough for Oreo, though, as the company then introduced the Mega Stuf Oreo in 2013. Had enough yet? Apparently not. Oreo announced the Most Stuf Oreo in 2019.

But will Most Stuff even be good? After all, the appeal of the Oreo lies in the tasty combo of filling against the pair of crunchy chocolate cookies. All these extra Stuf layers just throw the ratio off.

Logistically and nutritionally, these are a bit of a nightmare. The soft, pillowy creme will often mush right out the sides while you’re chomping through. I almost think it’s advantageous to just remove the top wafer, use it as a shovel to eat a portion of the creme away, and then eat the bottom wafer with the remaining creme.

There’s just too much creme, with each cookie packing 11g of sugar and 110 calories.

Now all of this to say, these still taste GOOD because they’re Oreos. But for the majority of us (the amateurs, if you will), we’ll happily settle for a single creming and max out at Double on special occasion.

This enormous Oreo has more filling than any other variety, including the Mega Stuf. They’re so thick, each bag only comes with about 15 cookies.
