New Era Background and History

The founder of the new era company was Ehrhardt Koch in 1920. He named it first the E. Coach Cap Company. It was later renamed the New Era Company.

New Era Company signed the initial contract with MLB in 1934. The ‘Cleveland Indians’, produced caps after the agreement. It was redesigned in 1954 as Brooklyn style, and then 20 MLB teams started to wear the new era caps in 1965.

Then in 1993, the MLB gave them the authority to make caps for all their teams. With 100 years of experience, New Era has supplied caps to baseball teams with a reputation.

In 1904, Frank Mitchell and Charles Ness set the future of authentic in motion when they met up in Philadelphia to establish Mitchell & Ness Sporting Goods. At first, they specialized in stringing tennis racquets, constructing custom-made golf clubs and making uniforms for local Philly baseball and football teams.
