| #3 The Amazon Kindle (2022)
Google Users Rating: 4.8/5
Bestbuy: $99.99 (up to 0.5% cashback)
It took Amazon about five years to update the base Kindle model, but what an absolutely fantastic upgrade the 2022 edition is thanks to its much sharper screen, additional storage, and longer battery life.
The Kindle 2022 screen is a 300-pixel-per-inch (PPI) resolution and it doubled the storage from 8 gigabytes to 16. It gets the same USB-C port for charging as the Paperwhite models, and it charges quickly.
The fact that the Kindle 2022 isn’t waterproof is probably the biggest differentiator between it and the more expensive Paperwhite. Also, the Kindle 2022 missed the option of adjusting the warmth of the display light, another minor but meaningful Paperwhite feature. So if you don't need the waterproof build or adjustable color temperature for its front light, the Kindle 2022 is a cheaper alternative to Kindle Paperwhite

| #6 NOOK GlowLight 4e
Google Users Rating: /
Walmart: $106.95 (up to 4% cashback)
As America’s last remaining nationwide bookstore chain, Barnes & Noble continues to compete with Amazon Kindle with its own e-reader and e-book storefront. The GlowLight 4e is the most affordable mainstream ebook reader from Barnes & Noble which has a 6" high-resolution 212-dpi screen with built-in glare- scratch- and fingerprint-resistant lens provides a paper-like reading experience. It’s powerful enough to read in bed or in the bright light of the sun. NOOK’s most advanced Ambient (Always-On) GlowLight technology lets you enjoy an evenly dispersed light.
This e-reader supplements its touchscreen navigation with four physical buttons—two on each side—so you have a choice if you prefer the tactile feedback of a physical button. The buttons help make the Nook GlowLight 4e more comfortable and usable in one hand. With 8 GB of storage, you can easily hold up to 6,000 standard books on this little device, while the Nook also offers the capability to sideload other formats, including ePUB books. But its inconsistent front light and non-waterproof build curtail its appeal. Plus, it lacks audiobook capability. Its limited format support doesn't help matters, either.
