Purity Coffee vs. Lifeboost vs. Bulletproof: Which is the Best Option?
What's the best brand of organic, clean, mold-free coffee?
Organic coffee is becoming more and more popular now, why?
Shopping for organic coffee is a good way to steer clear of some of the more damaging industry practices, specifically the use of pesticides and insecticides, as well as mycotoxins.
They also grow their coffee in the shade, which encourages natural wildlife to flourish and offers a more tolerable working environment for the people harvesting the coffee in the fields.
Plus, studies have shown a link between organic food and higher antioxidant content, so if you’re excited about the health benefits of drinking coffee, going organic certainly can’t hurt!
Here are a few things to look for when buying coffee that will help you avoid some of the more dangerous industry practices…
Coffee that’s farmed in Ethiopia, Columbia, Kenya, Guatemala, Sulawesi, and Papua New Guinea. Why these countries? Because they are active coffee-farming areas that also have high-elevation, which means less mold growing on the beans. Coffee that takes longer to grow is subject to more mold, which may introduce naturally-occuring toxins called mycotoxins. In high amounts, mycotoxins can be carcinogenic (cancer-causing) and quite dangerous to both humans and animals.
Coffee that’s processed using the wet method, rather than other natural processes. Other natural processes have been known to increase the number of mycotoxins.
Note: Not all organic coffees carry the commonly seen USDA seal. Some are certified by CCOF, others by OCIA.

Lifeboost Coffee Reviews 2024
Best organic coffee with low acidity
What is LifeBoost Coffee?
LifeBoost Coffee is an organic, low-acid, single origin coffee.
It is sustainably-sourced from Nicaragua and boasts a smooth yet bold flavor profile.
Unlike other coffees, LifeBoost Coffee is water processed instead of washed to remove the naturally occurring acid and preserve its components that are beneficial to our health.
Every batch of LifeBoost Coffee is third party tested to ensure it meets strict standards of quality and consistency.
Its commitment to freshness guarantees you will receive a product that has been just roasted, not months old which is a common occurrence in grocery stores.
The Origin Of Lifeboost Coffee
Lifeboost coffee is the brainchild of Dr. Charles Livingstone who made it his quest to find coffee that he could love drinking without harming either his body or the environment.
This quest led him to the mountain ranges of Nicaragua. Then he went on to start Lifeboost; a coffee roaster committed to an organic growing and harvesting process, to fair and humane treatment of coffee farmers, and to getting the best flavored coffee possible.
As a result Lifeboost Coffee comes with a rather ridiculous amount of certifications and accolades. They are USDA certified organic, single origin, shade grown, Fairtrade, 3rd party tested for Mycotoxins, kosher, and active sponsors of the Rainforest Trust for wildlife conservation.
Look for Lifeboost online and at national retailers including Target, Walmart and Whole Foods.
Where
Initially, all of the coffee beans for Lifeboost’s coffee came from Nicaragua.
The coffee beans are grown at an altitude of more than 5,700 feet above sea level. This high altitude is deliberate to slow down the development of cherries for better flavor and more nutrients in the coffee beans.
The company recently expanded to offer South America, Indonesia, and Africa beans. But they still insist on organic. Many of these more exotic coffees are limited editions.
What we like about it
Low Acid
A large part of Lifeboost’s marketing strategy is that their coffee is in their own words “Helping you achieve the healthiest, tastiest cup of coffee possible.” Low acidity is a technical way of talking about the pH content in coffee.
High acidity in coffee means a bright flavor.
While acidity in itself is not a bad thing, some people with gastric problems respond negatively to the acidity in coffee or other products.
Lifeboost coffee is naturally low acid coffee that is great for people who are sensitive to acidity and/or those who are lactose intolerant or Coeliac.
The pH scale that measures acidity ranges from 0 to 14. Lemon juice has a pH level of around 3, and water has a pH of 7.
Most coffee has a pH level of around 5. But Lifeboost coffee has a pH level of 6.
The level of acidity depends on many things.
A lighter roast is more acidic and a darker roast coffee is less acidic.
The brewing method also affects acidity. For the lowest acidity, drink cold-brewed coffee.
But one of the more critical factors for acidity is the bean’s origin. Lifeboost Coffee specifically selects beans that have low acidity but are still delicious.
Third Party Tested for Mycotoxins
Perhaps the most significant factor of Lifeboost that makes it some of the healthiest coffee on the market is the lack of mycotoxins present within the beans. If you’ve never heard of this type of toxin, you aren’t alone.
Mycotoxins can potentially cause a wide range of health problems like cardiomyopathy, kidney disease, liver failure, and even cancer.
That’s why Lifeboost cares about the whole process, from plantation to table. They use processing methods that reduce the risk of mycotoxins.
Starting by washing their beans in 100% pure spring mountain water, Lifeboost prevents the beans from fermenting until they endure the wet process. Lifeboost calls this “forced demicuilage,” which is sort of a mechanical process with no fermentation.
After the coffee has been washed, the beans are then pulped. Then they are dried in the sun for several days once their outer covering is removed. Not only does this remove any toxins and reduce the risk of mycotoxins, but it also gives the coffee a rest period, giving the chance for the rich, inner flavors to be coaxed out from within the beans.
And if that wasn’t enough, Lifeboost goes the extra mile by testing each shipment of coffee through The Agriculture Department to triple check that no unfiltered, unseen toxins end up in your final bag of coffee. In fact, if there are any toxins are found present in the beans, the shipment is not allowed to leave the country for roasting.
No Harmful Chemicals
The absence of pesticides, agricultural chemicals, and mycotoxins means that there are no harmful or irritable substances inside your coffee cup. This makes it a healthier coffee option than other coffee brands.
Single Origin Beans
The coffee you purchase will be single-origin, unlike many companies that claim this, you can be assured that Lifeboost Coffee is single-origin.
For most coffee lovers, the term single origin equals quality. With single-origin coffee, there’s nowhere to hide. Single-origin coffees highlight the flavors unique to that region.
Exclusive Organic Farming
In addition to the high altitude, the beans are exclusively shade grown. This means that the smaller coffee trees grow under the shade of larger, in this case Guava, trees.
The absence of exposure to direct sunlight ensures that the coffee plant won’t be infested with bugs and pests.
As well as protecting the coffee plants and making life a little more pleasant for the farmers, the larger ‘shade’ trees cause leaves to fall among the coffee plants which when decomposed provide needed nutrients and help prevent the growth of weeds.
The use of shade can also aid the development of natural sugars in the beans.
Fairtrade
Lifeboost coffee is also Fair Trade certified. In its simplest terms this means that there has been a conscious effort to make sure the coffee farmers get a fair price for their beans and that the coffee has been grown in a sustainable environment.
So perhaps one of the most compelling reasons to try Lifeboost coffee is their utter commitment to ethical standards and to humane conditions for the workers. In an industry that has a dark history of exploitation, it is great to see Lifeboost’s commitment to both ethical and ecological concerns.
INDIVIDUAL SELECTION OF BEANS
All of Lifeboost’s coffee is fair-trade certified and is sourced from smaller farms/plantations instead of large-scale coffee-growing corporations.
Through selecting its coffee through small-scale farmers, Lifeboost can ensure that all of the beans are grown and cultivated properly, and it can also keep a close eye on the cultivation process and coffee sorting process to ensure that only the best, most succulent beans make it into the roaster and into your cup.
When the cherries are finally ripe they are hand picked and fermented for exactly 26 hours. The coffee beans are then hand washed in natural spring water before being dried in the sun to bring their moisture to exactly 11.5%. The beans are then rested for a month before being shipped to the roastery.
Dietary Restrictions
LifeBoost Coffee is a remarkably special blend of the highest quality Arabica beans in the world, is also entirely dairy free, with absolutely zero sugars or carbs making it ideal for those with dietary restrictions.
If you’re looking for the most pure coffee brewing experience, LifeBoost Coffee is definitely the way to go!
Fresh
LifeBoost Coffee stands out from the competition as a consistently superior product. It is air roasted each and every time someone places an order, ensuring that they get the freshest cup of joe possible.
This means that the flavor is more nuanced, reliable, and robust than other brands that use pre-roasted beans.
With its attention to detail, it’s no wonder Lifeboost Coffee has become increasingly popular in both households and cafes alike.
Wide variety of choices
LifeBoost Coffee offers a wide variety of flavors that can fulfill any coffee lover’s needs. With over fifteen distinctive options, from Caramel Macchiato to Peppermint Mocha Decaf, you’ll always find something to suit your tastes.
Not harmful to stomach and teeth
LifeBoost Coffee is a great option for coffee drinkers concerned about the potential downsides of traditional coffee. One of the main pros is that it’s easier on the stomach than regular coffee. Because it contains no oils or acids, it won’t irritate your digestive system and will leave you feeling free from any after-coffee discomfort.
Additionally, since LifeBoost Coffee is naturally slower to produce acid, it’s better for your teeth as well. Enjoy delicious, quality coffee without having to worry about uncomfortable side effects or anything adversely affecting your dental hygiene.
Tastes great
Its taste and flavor are beloved by coffee connoisseurs, and it has a profile of unique ingredients which make it stand out from the crowd.
Many who try LifeBoost Coffee report experiencing clearer thinking, more energy, better digestion, improved focus and a natural detox – no wonder it’s one of the hottest coffee brands out there!
However, this is really hard to judge for the simple reason that taste is subjective and that poor tasting coffee may be the result of any number of different factors. If a coffee tastes bad it may be due to the beans but it also may be due to over or under extraction in the brewing process, to bad brewing technique, to wrong grind size, or to the wrong water temperature.
So over that lengthy caveat, how does the coffee actually taste? Well there are a wide range of lifeboost coffee reviews with some customers loving it while others being less than impressed. Common descriptions of Lifeboost coffee are that it is a bold but smooth flavor. Depending on which roast type (light, medium, or dark) you opt for, it is typically very clean with low acidity. Another common description of this coffee among users is that there is very little bitterness when brewed correctly.
The Packaging
We always love a tightly sealed, secure bag of fresh coffee, and Lifeboost’s bag design allows you to open and reseal each bag with ease.
However, though not all of Lifeboost’s bags come with the same kind of resealable design, the more standard light, medium, and dark roasts do since they tend to be more popular options for many coffee lovers.
What we don't like about it
LifeBoost Coffee can be quite expensive in comparison to other brands offering similar quality; additionally, LifeBoost Coffee only offers beans from one origin–Nicaragua. So while you’re bound to get a flavorful cup of joe with LifeBoost, it may be worth exploring cheaper options and/or ones that offer a variety of origins to compare.
WEBSITE CONTENT
Each coffee that we’ve tried by Lifeboost has been savory in flavor and freshness, but sometimes it may be hard to get an exact, unique description of flavor for each roast on Lifeboost’s website. Of course, all of the various flavors present in each roast can be experienced once you’ve tasted the coffee itself, but there seems to be a lack of descriptions of these flavors on the website itself.

Purity Coffee Review
Purity’s coffee is tasty, smooth, and aromatic. The dark roast didn’t have a hint of bitterness, and the decaf was surprisingly delicious. We especially enjoyed the starter kit, which includes quite a few useful coffee accessories, and were impressed by the depth of flavor of the convenient coffee sachets.
Are there any downsides? Purity is a gourmet organic coffee brand, so it will outprice those with smaller budgets. And while there are coffee pods and sachets available, Purity doesn’t offer any flavored coffee, so if you’re looking for a tasty hazelnut, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
The Origin Of Purity Coffee
Purity Coffee has a cute origin story. Once upon a time, co-founder Amber Salisbury was suffering from unexplained fatigue, and she found, like so many of us, that coffee was an effective treatment. Her husband Andrew dug into the peer-reviewed literature to find scientific justification for her results and was surprised to learn about coffee’s well-established health benefits.
Purity is the first coffee roaster to put health as the top priority. That means sourcing the finest certified organic coffee and roasting it to best preserve its healthy components – the antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and other beneficial nutrients.
Where?
Purity’s standards are second-to-none when it comes to delivering the best beans.
They source their Arabica beans from high-altitude farms around the world. Rather than focusing on a single country to try and deliver a single origin coffee brand, they’re simply focused on delivering the best organic coffee beans possible.
They may come from any country with coffee farms at high altitudes, such as Indonesia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Brazil. The arabica coffee beans simply must meet the stringent criteria of the Purity Health Profile, which is essentially a list of requirements the coffee beans must meet to be considered pure.
Coffee Quality
Unlike more popular companies like Green Mountain, Purity sources only specialty grade 100% Arabica coffee, well-known in the coffee world as the best coffee beans thanks to sweet and complex flavors.
Coffee that stands the test
The Purity starting point is organic beans, and from there they do extensive lab testing on every batch of organic green coffee beans they source for mold, fungus, mycotoxins, pesticides and Ochratoxin A (which can lead to kidney damage). They also inspect all of the coffee beans to ensure they have zero defects – they only want perfect coffee beans with the least number of defects.
Apparently, when coffee beans are broken, cracked or chipped, they end up with an uneven roast profile, and that can contribute to the production of carcinogenic compounds. When you open a bag of Purity Coffee, one thing you’ll notice is that all of the roasted beans are perfectly shaped and they’re not oily either.
Roasting process
They use a unique roasting process that ensures the maximum level of antioxidants while avoiding cancer-causing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) compounds in their certified organic coffee. They actually use a smokeless roaster and do not roast the beans at a high temperature, which is very different from most coffee roasters.
Fresh
They roast in small batches, and ship direct to their customers within 48 hours of the roast date. That means you always get super fresh coffee that hasn’t been sitting on a shelf collecting mold and oxidizing. That is, as long as you buy direct from Purity. If you order from a reseller, you won’t get such fresh beans.
Is purity coffee mold-free
Compared to other organic brands, their whole bean coffee contains more antioxidants by more than 60%. It is also lab-tested to verify that it is free of mold and other impurities before shipping.
It Truly Is healthier Than Other Coffee Brands
There’s no denying that Purity Coffee is committed to providing its customers with some of the highest-quality coffee money can buy when it comes to health and nutritional benefits.
There are numerous antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients in it, which help to improve the consumer’s general health. In addition, the coffee is certified organic specialty grade coffee, which is a significant feature in and of itself.
Considering that less than one percent of all coffee produced worldwide meets this level, it is outstanding.
Purity is the only coffee brand that tailors its roast cycles to support the health-giving molecules present in coffee.
And optimizing the blend and roasting curve seems to be working. Independent testing has confirmed that Purity Coffee is, on average, 65% higher in antioxidants than other organic coffee brands and is free of mold, mycotoxins, pesticides, and other potentially harmful substances.
It Is Sustainable
All Purity coffee is Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and Bird Friendly certified. These certifications ensure that the coffee beans themselves are high quality and that the environment and people at origin are treated with respect. The Bird Friendly certification is exceptionally rigorous, with requirements for foliage cover and biodiversity.
Purity goes above and beyond to protect the environment and farms where the coffee beans are grown, and they are recognized for their efforts.
As a result, they are careful not to overbuy their coffee, which will prevent unused beans from becoming stale and going to waste.
In addition to this, they employ forestry methods that help maintain the soil’s quality and ensure that the environment remains healthy.
The bags that the coffee is packaged in are made from as much reused and environmentally friendly material as feasible.
It Practices Fair Trade To Help The Farmers
All of the coffee that you drink is under either fair trade or direct trade contracts. This is up to the farmer and what they prefer.
The great relationships that have evolved between the farmers and Purity Coffee allow you to be confident that your coffee beans will be carefully monitored and well cared for from the moment they are harvested until they reach your coffee cup.
You Don’t Have To Pay For Shipping
Receiving coffee through the mail may be a frustrating experience, especially when you are concerned about how it will affect the overall quality of your coffee.
On the other hand, it makes things easier by taking care of the unnecessary worry of shipping fees!
For customers in the United States, free delivery is available on all coffee orders, whether one-time purchases or small monthly subscriptions to its coffee service.
Coffee Selection
Purity Coffee offers four coffees–each available as whole coffee beans, in a K-Cup style pod, or in single-serve coffee sachets. The selection is small but relatively comprehensive, so most coffee lovers will find a flavor profile they enjoy. Notably, they offer neither ground nor flavored beans.
Their roasts and distinctive mixes are made from sustainable sources from freshly roasted, specialty-grade organic coffee.
Purity’s mission is to cultivate the highest-quality coffee possible, and all of the roasts are rich in nutrients and antioxidants to support this goal. They also have bags of whole bean coffee in various sizes, including 12oz bags and 5lb bags, depending on how much coffee you drink.
They have a variety of roasts to choose from, including medium, dark, decaf, and a special blend called the Founders’ Blend.
In the pod form, they’re filled with coffee grounds, so you don’t get quite the freshness of grinding your own beans, but Purity Coffee’s pods are still pretty great compared to some other coffee pods.
What Does Purity Coffee Taste Like?
The beans are incredibly smooth with absolutely no bitter taste. In terms of flavor, it’s also unlike any other coffee I’ve tried. It’s hard to put into words, but it just tastes clean and fresh compared to some other beans I’ve tried. Since there’s no bitterness, it almost has a naturally sweet taste, but without any added sugar.
What We Didn’t Like
Unfortunately, not everything can be flawless. It’s a good thing, though, because there are always methods to improve a product and make it better.
The Flavor Profile Isn’t Very Strong
Even though it provides numerous health benefits, is that it leaves little possibility to develop real, distinctive flavor profiles.
The company’s website provides a basic idea of the sort of roast the coffee is (medium, dark, decaffeinated, etc.) and does not describe the flavors present in the coffee itself.
As a result, no distinct description of the flavors distinguishes each roast from the others in the collection.
The majority of coffee is flavored with additives, and this is why some organic brands like purity coffee will taste bland.
Although we believe that the health advantages are real, we find it difficult to detect any vibrant or powerful flavors in the coffee. However, if your primary goal is to improve your general health, this shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for you in the long run.
They Don’t have Any Pre-Ground Options
When purchasing Purity Coffee, you will also need to purchase a grinder of some sort to brew your beans.
You should always use whole beans and grind them right before you brew.
This is the most effective approach to ensure that your coffee is as fresh as possible; however, it may be more challenging for people who do not have a grinder to do this task.
Where To Buy
It offers a straightforward website from which you may order a range of coffees. Choose whole beans, single-serve coffee sachets, coffee pods, or go for a larger 5-pound bag if you drink a lot of coffee.
You can expect to pay a higher price for high-quality coffee like Purity. However, when compared to coffee shops, the price per cup is still quite low.
If you break down the numbers, you get 25-35 8 ounce cups of brewed coffee from each 12 oz bag of Purity organic coffee. At the current price, that means you’re paying as little as 70 cents per cup, which is far less than you’d pay at a local coffee shop.
For me, that’s a small price to pay for the best coffee beans in the world. Purity Coffee is the real deal when it comes to healthy coffee with a uniquely clean flavor that I can’t get enough of
Plus, you can get 20% off with coupon code HAPPYMOTHERING.
Purity has a simple, easy to use website where you can order a variety of coffees. Choose between whole bean, decaf, single-serve coffee sachets, and coffee pods, or upgrade to a large 5-pound bag.
Coffee Subscription Service
Alternatively, you can subscribe to a prepaid coffee subscription service, which can give you 6 to 12 months of coffee.
One free additional shipment is available when you sign up for a 6-month subscription, and two free additional shipments are available when you prepay for a 12-month membership!
Each subscription includes a 12oz bag of coffee in your preferred roast. Approximately 25-30 8-ounce cups of coffee can be made from each bag.
You have the option of receiving one to four 12 ounce bags per month or a 5-pound bag once a month. Coffee pods are also available through the subscription.
The Packaging
Purity Coffee’s packaging is appealing and minimal but informative. The starter kit arrives packed with bright green tissue paper, making it feel like a present, especially given everything packed inside.
The single-serve sachets come individually packaged inside a box, and the coffee bags feature one-way valves and can be resealed.
We enjoy how detailed “The Purity Process” is on the back of the coffee bags, which involves nitrogen cleansing the bags after they’ve been sealed.
Purity Coffee Review: Our Verdict
So what’s our recommendation? We liked this health-focused coffee company, which offers high-quality organic beans and a lot of fun extras. The starter kit offers great value, and you can set up a subscription for future orders. The packaging ensures freshness and convenience, and best of all, the coffee is smooth, rich, and incredibly drinkable.
You may want to look elsewhere if you prefer pre-ground or flavored beans, and even with the subscription, Purity may be out of your budget. But if you can swing it, we recommend giving Purity Coffee a try! We think you’ll be impressed with these tasty beans.
So, what’s our suggestion?
We were drawn to this health-conscious coffee company because it provides high-quality organic beans and various products.
You may set up a subscription for future shipments, and the starter package is a wonderful deal. The coffee is smooth, rich, and the container ensures freshness and convenience.
If you prefer pre-ground or flavored beans, you may want to look elsewhere; even with a subscription, Purity may be out of your price range if these are your preferences.
Purity Coffee, on the other hand, is a must-try if you can afford it. The deliciousness of these beans is something we hope you will be pleasantly pleased by.
Purity Coffee is a terrific approach to boost overall health and wellness if you want to improve your overall health. In addition, you can be confident that your coffee is of high quality in freshness and flavor because of the amount of care in each batch.
Bulletproof Coffee
From the stay-home mom to the chief executive, this is your life saver on a hectic morning. It takes just five extra minutes in the morning to start your day off with this creamy coffee drink and keeps you full until lunch. We bet you already guess what it is, it's Bulletproof Coffee.
The Origins of Bulletproof Coffee – Who Invented it?
Bulletproof coffee is invented by an American entrepreneur Dave Asprey, who describes himself as a “bio-hacker”.
Asprey found this butter and coffee idea while he was trekking through the Himalayas. Tibetan hosts offered him some yak butter tea, which inspired him to invent this new type of drink. After returning home, he tried to create bulletproof coffee by adding coconut oil, grass-fed butter to the coffee.
Where Did Bulletproof Coffee Come From?
This new coffee idea introduced in 2011 and the name of this coffee came from the products and supplements produced by Asprey. However, as the number of people who use this coffee as a breakfast beverage increases, the term “bulletproof coffee” is beginning to apply to any coffee that is roughly the same ratio as Asprey’s original recipe.
To avoid some trademark infringement, bulletproof can sometimes be called butter coffee on a menu of some cafes or restaurants. While the standard recipe contains oil, butter, and coffee, sometimes it can be modified with other spices, supplements, or taste enhancers. These additions can contain collagen protein powder, chocolate powder, vanilla powder, and cinnamon to make bulletproof coffee keto
Why is Bulletproof Coffee So Popular?
Bulletproof Coffee is quickly becoming a household name and is popular for its ability to provide energy, replace meals, and improve mental performance.
This coconut oil coffee was designed to be an alternative to keto, low-carb, or a high-fat diet at first, therefore it can be regarded as a keto coffee diet.
It is intended to be a drink replacement for breakfast due to its high calories.
When it comes to its mental health benefits, thanks to the fat in the butter and coconut oil, it does not only provide the necessary fuel to the body but also minimizes your hunger cravings.
This bulletproof coffee is popular among people who are on the keto diet because when you drink it at night, it can help you to burn fat rather than glucose.
This coffee is perfect for those who want to follow the keto, paleo, and low-carb diets. This has helped Bulletproof Coffee become a trend amongst health and fitness communities around the world.
Bulletproof Coffee is an interesting trend in the health world. It has been gaining popularity for years now and it’s easy to see why. There are also a number of other products relating to the coffee including, Bulletproof Original Creamer, Bulletproof Collagen Protein powder, and the Bulletproof Cold brew latte.
What Are The Benefits of Bulletproof Coffee?
There are several benefits of Bulletproof Coffee that relate to the individual ingredients including higher antioxidants, increased energy, fatty acids, and good cholesterol. However, it is important to note that there are many articles and videos with false information that isn’t supported by research, with claims of health benefits of Bulletproof Coffee.
We have collated some information from various trusted sources to explain some of the health benefits of Bulletproof Coffee:
The coffee itself is full of antioxidants that fight against free radicals (which can lead to cancer). Then there are the added benefits of energy, fat burning, brain stimulation, and reduced risk of certain diseases.
The MCT oil is a great source of healthy fats which promote good cholesterol in the body – leading to a reduced risk of heart disease. There have also been studies to show that some benefits can include weight loss and boosting energy.
The grass-fed butter is packed with antioxidants and good fatty acids. It’s also a good source of vitamins A and K2 which can contribute to bone and heart health.
It benefits those on special diets. For the Keto diet, MCT oil can help to promote Ketosis. For other diets, the high calories and saturated fats are useful.
The coffee can make you feel full due to the high calorie content. This is a benefit for those looking to replace a small meal or fill any lost calories.
What Are The Downsides of Bulletproof Coffee
There are also some potential downsides to Bulletproof Coffee. Whilst nothing is sufficiently backed by research and will be depending on individual diets, it’s still worth being aware of the potential downsides.
High levels of saturated fats can be consumed through the coffee drink due to the butter. This can lead to high cholesterol and heart problems. In moderation, there shouldn’t be any danger of this. If you are unsure, speak to your doctor.
You may end up missing out on nutrients from food if you skip a meal every day. This coffee drink shouldn’t be a regular meal replacement.
You could gain weight if you consume the coffee drink in addition to meals.
Why does the bulletproof coffee recipe call specifically for MCT oil?
Some people think of bulletproof coffee as just coffee with butter mixed in, but it's actually more granular than that. Specifically, you're meant to use a mix of grass-fed butter and MCT oil. "MCT oil is a supplement that contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs)," says Kelli McGrane, R.D., of Lose It!. "The oil is most commonly extracted from coconut oil, but it can also be made by processing palm kernel oil." One tablespoon of the MCT oil that Bulletproof sells contains 130 calories and 14 grams of saturated fat.
MCTs are broken down more efficiently in the body and may be more likely to be used for immediate energy rather than stored as body fat.
What about grass-fed butter?
Compared to conventional grain-fed butter, grass-fed butter (made of milk from grass-fed cows) is typically higher in vitamins A and K, McGrane says. And, one study found that grass-fed butter contains more omega-3 fatty acids than conventional butter.
Despite its slight nutrient edge, grass-fed butter is still high in saturated fat: 1 tablespoon delivers 100 calories and 8 grams of saturated fat. The amount of omega-3s also doesn't come close to that in, say, salmon (consider trying these top plant-based omega-3s to add more to your diet).
It seems silly to even ask at this point, but is bulletproof coffee a nutritious breakfast choice?
Because it's so high-calorie, bulletproof coffee is meant to be a breakfast substitute, not something you eat alongside a traditional breakfast. Part of the reason it's so popular among keto dieters is that all of its calories come from fat, with no carbohydrates or protein.
That alone should raise alarm bells for anyone who understands basic nutrition. "While bulletproof coffee provides fat and possibly vitamins A and K (if using grass-fed butter), [it lacks] essential nutrients like protein, fiber, and most vitamins and minerals," McGrane says. "Plus, bulletproof coffee is very high in calories and saturated fat, which can be problematic."
While fat is important for satiety and fullness, protein and fiber play a role in this as well. It's possible that the high-calorie breakfast drink wouldn't fill you up the way a more balanced breakfast might (check out our healthy breakfast recipes for inspiration).
Bottom line: Bulletproof coffee isn't a healthy breakfast choice.
Because of its high calorie and saturated fat content, and its low protein and fiber content, bulletproof coffee just isn't a healthy breakfast choice. If you're curious about trying bulletproof coffee, or if you've already tried it and love the taste, it's probably fine to drink a cup every once in a while, McGrane says. But as with other high-calorie, nutrient-poor foods, it's best to drink bulletproof coffee in moderation, and not as a substitute for nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and lean proteins.

Purity Coffee vs. Lifeboost vs. Bulletproof: Which is the Best Option?
Purity and Lifeboost products start with organic specialty arabica beans that are responsibly cultivated, and each company assures that they are mold and mycotoxin-free through thorough testing.
All of this is nice and dandy, and it’s more than enough information to give Lifeboost and Purity Coffee drinkers peace of mind about the coffee they’re drinking.
Even though the items have a lot in common, we’d probably categorize our recommendations as follows:
Start with Lifeboost if you want a greater assortment of flavors and varieties. They have a variety of roasts to choose from and seasonal flavors to keep things interesting.
And their single-origin beans, which mature at high altitudes in the Nicaraguan highland rainforests, gaining depth of flavor and powerful nutrient content. This, paired with the mild acidity and overall mellow flavor, makes it an excellent place to start.
Purity Coffee, on the other hand, is known for providing better pricing for its organic coffee. You can also purchase a 5-pound bag if you like to buy in bulk and save a little money. If saving money is a priority, Purity may be a better option.
Purity coffee doesn’t pay as much attention to acidity levels as Lifeboost. Instead, they are more concerned about the overall quality.
Everything is put through its paces to ensure that the beans collected are of the highest quality.
They evaluate the coffee to confirm that it complies with the SCAA Green Coffee Grading Standards, allowing it to be classified as “Specialty Grade.”
As a result, its beans are free of fungus and insect damage, as well as sour or withered beans and other defects, and they have a delicious flavor profile to match.
The minimum score allowed is 80, and the maximum ever reached is 90. Thus, they consistently earn between 85 and 89.75 points.
You want more roast variety: Purity Coffee offers several roast levels, but they all fall around the middle of the roast spectrum to best preserve antioxidant levels in the coffee beans. If you prefer a very dark roast or a light roast, consider coffee beans from Lifeboost instead. Like Purity, they put health as a priority, and they offer a larger selection of blends and single origins at various roast levels.
Single origin coffee or blended coffee?
Single-origin coffee originates from a specific location and is not mixed with beans from other coffee farms. A blend contains beans from multiple origins.
Although this is often the subject of discussion, there’s not really an answer to which is better. It depends on how you want to drink your coffee and what you expect.
Single-origin coffee can be seen as ‘pure’ but often lacks deepness or complexity. The roaster often selects beans that complement each other and offer a good and full sensory experience with blended coffees.
Coffee aficionados and purists often enjoy the pure experience that a single-origin coffee offers and love tasting the subtle nuances between those coffees.
Folks who prefer blends enjoy the balanced flavors and a well-chosen mix between ‘mouth feel,’ smoothness, aroma, acidity, after taste, and crema, often without the bitterness of a single-origin coffee.
