Nike Air Force 1 History and Origin

Designed by Bruce Kilgore and introduced in 1982, the Air Force 1 was the first ever basketball shoe to feature Nike Air technology, revolutionizing the game and sneaker culture forever. Over four decades since its first release, the Air Force 1 remains true to its roots while earning its status as a fashion staple for seasons to come.Named after Air Force One, the plane that transports the President of the United States around, this shoe carries a timeless street basketball shoe design. It has a cult-like following these days and is most popularly seen in the white-on-white (all-white) colorway.

The sneaker was subsequently marketed as one of the best basketball shoes around in 1983 when Nike took six of its top NBA stars to kick off the Air Force 1 campaign. While this helped boost the Air Force 1s popularity, demand started to grow for low-top variations to be released for more casual wear. Nike adhered to these demands briefly before ultimately discontinuing the sneakers in 1984.In their absence, fans of the Air Force 1 began customising their old models in order to compensate for Nike cutting off their beloved Air Force 1 line.Nike took note of this and brought back the Air Force 1 in 1986 by releasing two new colourways with the direction of the sneakers now focused more on everyday wear.

Nowadays, the Air Force 1 has become the ultimate lifestyle sneaker with its timeless silhouette and iconic streetwear design that's still being reproduced to this day.

The biggest difference between the Nike Air Force 1 and 1 '07 shoes is the material. The original Air Force 1 shoes are made with a less durable material, which can become faded and worn over time. The 1 '07 shoes are made with a more durable material that does not fade as easily. They also have a sleeker look that many people prefer. If you are looking for a new pair of sneakers, the Air Force 1 '07 shoes are a great option.

  • Nike Dunk

Nike Dunk History and Origin

Nike Dunk was originally released in 1985 as a fusion of three Nike sneakers: the Legend, the Terminator, and the Jordan 1.At its inception, the Nike Dunk was marketed as a basketball shoe for college athletes, which matched colorways to honor that theme. And while it was used on the basketball court, its time was short lived. By the early 2000s, Nike created a slightly modified version of the Dunk known as the Dunk Low Pro SB which, structurally, was made with added comfort and safety when skating in mind.

The greatest era in the history of the Nike Dunk came with the appointment of Sandy Bodecker as General Manager of Nike SB in 2001, along with the subdivision's official launch in March 2002. He was tasked with revamping the brand's ailing approach to the skating industry, having previously played an integral role in improving and growing Nike's soccer division. The evolution of the Nike Dunk into the Nike SB,basketball shoe turneed skateboarding staple, the Dunk has enjoyed a full-force revival in the year 2020 and 2021, surpassing its original purpose as a college hoop sneaker by a long shot.

  • Nike Court Vision

Court Vision History and Origin

The Nike Court Vision’s design is inspired by mid-1980s basketball shoes and is made of a blend of leather, synthetic leather, and polyurethane. The rubber cup sole on these Nike sneakers adds durability and grip.Originally known as the Nike Tennis, the company behind the Swoosh decided to change its name to the “Nike Court” in 2014, along with making a few modifications. Some of the old Nike Tennis designs can still be seen in the wide sole, which compliments the side-to-side style. The Nike Court Vision was turned into a hybrid culmination of many different shoes.

It features a classic silhouette and exudes modern elegance and adaptability, allowing it to easily complement a range of outfits for several occasions.People have complained that the Nike Court Vision fits a bit tight, widthwise and it creases very easily. Nevertheless, it is amongst the top two percent of popular sneakers that may go with a variety of casual outfits.

Nike Air Force 1 vs. 1 '07 vs. Dunk vs. Court Vision: Comparison Side by Side

1.Design and Style

Nike Air Force 1 & 1 '07 - Since its inception in 1982, very few variations have been made in its original design. The original version featured a mesh side panel, toe box, and a mudguard at the front. However, the later versions are without mesh. The modern versions don't contain the feature of heel quarter panel or side stitched detailing.

Since 2007, the later versions have a rectangular medallion. Nike AF-1 comes in five styles, super low, low, mid, high, and super high. Some forms come with a connected strap, some with a Velcro strap. The shoes come in various colours, but the most popular ones are black-on-black and white-on-white. They go well with anything such as jeans, shorts, pants, socks. There have been modifications to the Force D.N.A in recent years to tap into the high-end, high-top-wearing zeitgeist. The Nike Air Force 1 '07 shoes are a newer, updated version of the original Air Force 1 style. They are made with a more durable material, have a sleeker look, and are more comfortable to wear.

The Nike Air Force 1 rises higher on the ankle and has a wider tongue than the Nike Court Vision, which sits lower on the ankle. If you are looking for a sneaker that will look aesthetically good with any outfit, then the Air Force 1 is the way to go.

Nike Dunk - A simplistic design, a balanced color-blocking, extreme versatility in its shape and style – the Nike Dunk is one of the most collectible silhouettes on the market today.A large puzzle piece in its unusual evolution is the partitioning of the Nike Dunk and the Nike SB Dunk lines, two different trainers for two varying lifestyles. To the casual wearer, the small tweaks to the SB's design meant very little. To the skateboarder, it was everything.

Each sneaker release came with a rich story and was relatable to a branch of the community. There was something for everyone, a weighty plethora of Dunk options coming in all colors, materials and patterns. Dunks colorways coined “Jedi”, “Hulk”, “Heineken”, “Hemp”, “Shark”, “Reverse Shark” and many more donned stories relating to pop culture, big-name personalities and the repurposing of materials.

Nike Court Vision -  The Nike Court Visions are best described as a 'smaller' version of the Air Force 1's, with the typical thick midsole being replaced by a much thinner, regular midsole on the Court Visions as seen on the popular white and black colourway.Using a combination of real and synthetic leather, the construction uses materials that echo mid-1980s basketball shoes. The thick laces, original pivot circles on the sole and retro Swoosh design keep it sleek and simple so you can wear them anywhere.Court Vision's finish a little lower down around your ankles due to their more compact and 'slimmed-down' aesthetic.

2.Comfort

Nike Air Force 1 & 1 '07 - Air Force 1s have the most comfortable shoes due to being made of genuine leather and have a cushion design that they call ‘Nike air cushion’. It is springy and soft, aiming to give you the most comfort you can gain from a shoe.As the 07s are mainly made following the design of the original Air Force 1s, there is a negligible amount of difference in terms of comfort between both variants of shoes. However, the Air Force 1s only offer the air cushioning design to shoes targeted towards men. As for women’s, pairs had a slight heel Air unit that can be comfy but not at the level of a shoe with air cushioning. The 07s does not seem to have this unequal issue as customers from both the male and female pool have praised its comfort and interior cushioning design which makes them think the 07s are better than the original Air Force 1s.Remember that both the Air Force 1s and 07s have been criticized for being uncomfortably heavy, making customers use this as a con for both shoes.

Nike Dunk - The Nike Dunks are not the comfiest shoes in the world, especially as it's a retro shoe, so we can't expect the same levels of comfort as in the newer Nike models. They're still comfortable enough and definitely good for everyday wear. The slim look of the shoes goes so well the bagginess of the bottoms, which complement each other perfectly.

Nike Court Vision -  Court Vision shoes lack the thick midsole and, for cost-cutting reasons, consist of a very thin, fixed midsole which may not give the best comfort that you want or need. You do,lose out on the Nike Air unit which may detriment how comfortable the Court Visions are to wear on an everyday basis.

3.Sizing

Nike Air Force 1 & 1 '07 - Air Force 1s have a taller and wider fit with a rounder toebox than many other Nikes. This results in looking larger on feet. In terms of size, I must warn you that if you’re planning to buy an Air Force 1, order size down by half of your original size, especially if you are buying online and you have no option to try it before purchasing. The same sometimes applies for ’07 shoes because some people claim that their feet fit true to size while others claim that going down half or full a size is recommended.

Nike Dunk - The Nike Dunks fit true to size so I recommend just going for your regular Nike shoe size. They're slimmer than other models like the Air Force 1,so compared to them you can probably go as much as half a size up from your regular size. For example, if you're a size UK 8 in AF1s, then you should be good with a UK 8.5 in Dunks.

Nike Court Vision -  Overall,Nike has a reputation for running small. While the length is generally normal, the smaller fit comes from pairs with stiffer padding or a narrower width. Most reviews stated the Court Vision runs a half size bigger.

4.Price

Nike Air Force 1 & 1 '07 -  As Nike Air Force 1s have various versions, the price can range between $100 to an astonishing $180.Custom shoes usually run around $120 to $140.Both Low and High Air Force 1s are more expensive than low or high-top Dunks, including any SBs.The Nike Air Force 1 is also somewhat costlier than the Nike Court Vision.

The Air Force 1 ’07 line of shoes for men starts from $100 and max at $145, which is cheaper than the max price of Air Force 1 shoes for men. Women’s 07 shoes start from $100 and max out at $110, which is not a big enough range for customers. In short, men’s ’07 shoes are cheaper, and women’s Air Force 1 have more price options.

Nike Dunk - Nike Dunk official price is $80-$115.In fact, some Dunks, like these "See Through" Highs, actually cost more than a pair of Air Force 1s brought at retail. This is something worth keeping in mind if you're trying to decide between the two.

Nike Court Vision - The Court Vision shoes are always priced between $70 and $80 as they have lesser varieties.you can get them cheaper if discounts are available. If you're looking for a new pair of sneakers and don't have much money to spend, the court vision may be a better option.

Conclusion: Which Should You Buy?

Choosing which of the three sneakers you should buy will ultimately come down to personal preference. It all comes down to what you prioritize the most. Is it how comfortable a shoe is? Is it how sleek the design of a shoe is?

In my opinion, I feel the Air Force 1 are the slightly best option out of the these shoes given their slightly more premium build and the added history surrounding them each time you put a pair on.Furthermore, there are usually a ton of great Air Force 1 collaborations released each year, like the new Slam Jam x AF1s, plus a ton of new and unique colourways, like the "Command Force" Lows.

If you don’t care about the Air Force 1 specifically, and are just looking for a white sneaker, the Court Vision Lows are an excellent option at a great price. The Nike Court Visions are not just a cheaper version of the Air Force 1, though you can put together some of the same looks using the Court Visions.

However, the Nike Dunk also has a rich history and arguably has more to offer thanks to its accompanying Dunk SB range designed for skateboarding.

If you are struggling to pick between them though, then we'd recommend heading to your local sneaker store and seeing if you can try on both models to see which of these shoes you prefer on your feet.
