The story of the Glycerin begins in the late 1990s — in true ‘90s northwest grunge spirit, the name was inspired by the song Glycerine by the band Bush. This makes the Glycerin 20 an excellent daily trainer or wear-everywhere shoe for people on their feet.A new, cushioned upper provides a normal to fit that with a little stretch. Brooks introduced the Ghost in 2008 with the goal of creating a go-to neutral shoe for runners. At the time, Brooks' director of product management was known for doing all his running workouts at night — and was therefore nicknamed "the Ghost," which eventually became the shoe’s name.Throughout the years, runners have loved the Ghost for its soft cushioning, smooth transitions, and its reliability as a daily trainer.Version 14 has been updated with a more streamlined upper and a snappier forefoot, making it a small improvement over version 13.But the major change from previous models is the midsole. The 14 is 100% Brooks DNA Loft which is softer underfoot than past generations of this shoe. In the Brooks Ghost 14 there is reduced manufacturing waste and each shoe is made out of at least 30% recycled materials in the upper.

It’s also a popular recommendation to beginner runners because it’s such a safe option. It’s neither too soft nor too firm, its upper is comfortable no matter what foot type you have and it has a remarkably stable ride for a neutral shoe.Even better, this model is covered by Brooks’ RunHappy Promise, meaning you can try them out for 90 days before you decide whether they’re right for you.If you're looking for a dependable trainer for comfortable daily runs and you don't mind a bland ride, the Ghost 14 is a great choice.

  • Heavier than the Ghost 13.

2.Construction and Material

  • Upper

They are all made of engineered mesh and they provide a secured but comfortable fit.

Brooks Glycerin 20 - The Brooks Glycerin 20 is available with different uppers. The Stealthfit upper is knit with denser areas that require support and lighter ones where breathability is needed. It’s more lightweight and breathable (the Glycerin 20 is lighter than previous versions, which weighed in at a half-ounce more), without feeling too sock-like.

Brooks Ghost 14 - Most upper materials are made with a minimum of 30% recycled content. The biggest update is the change of mesh. It feels thinner, more breathable and gives the Ghost 14 a more streamlined feel but it’s still a warm upper that’s more suited to cooler climates. It has generous foam padding in the tongue, heel tab and collar which pillow your feet.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 - The upper  is built with a new engineered 3d fit print mesh. It is one piece upper that has no points of irritation. It is a simple and strong material providing comfort mile after mile. The upper maintains its form while also being flexible. The mesh is softer and more breathable than the last edition.

  • Outsole

Brooks Glycerin 20 - The outsole of the Glycerin 20 is made from soft blown rubber. There’s a guidance channel that runs the length of the shoe on the lateral side, which helps to reduce the amount of stress on the foot by allowing for the natural bend of the foot as you move. The redesigned outsole rubber provides a good grip on the ground, whether dry or wet. Multiple flex grooves in the forefoot of the shoe help to provide smooth transitions. They also allow your foot to move naturally through the gait cycle, reducing the chance for injury due to limited movement.

Brooks Ghost 14 - The outsoles of the Ghost 14 features harder rubber in the heel and softer, blown rubber in the forefoot and midfoot. While being very thick pieces of rubber, they aren’t as durable as the rubber used by other brands. The shoe have excellent traction on a variety of surfaces, wet and dry.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 - The outsole of the Adrenaline GTS 22 is built to last for hundreds of miles. Blown rubber protects and covers most of the midsole, with just a small section under the heel remaining exposed.Omega flex grooves in the forefoot allow for flexibility so your foot can flex naturally and comfortably. These work well with the segmented crash pads to help to provide smooth transitions and better toe-off.Although a softer blown rubber has been used, which offers excellent grip and an extra bit of shock absorption, very little wear can be seen after running many miles.

  • Midsole

Brooks Glycerin 20 - Brooks has replaced the DNA Loft midsole foam with the DNA Loft V3, a lighter, poppier, nitrogen-infused midsole foam.First spotted on the Brooks Aurora BL, this nitrogen-infused foam now equips the midsole of the Glycerin 20. This foam provides light and soft cushioning, especially for a midfoot strike. This cushioning is durable and soft, which delivers optimal plush comfort. Also, the combination of the 10-mm heel-to-toe drop and widened platform provides much stability.

Brooks Ghost 14 - The Ghost 14 has a single density midsole made of 100% DNA Loft only. This setup results in a velvety smooth ride character. The DNA loft foam is Brook’s softest cushioning system and is designed to adapt to each individual runner. The midsole is medium-soft and best suited to medium or long-distance runs but it can easily handle shorter, tempo runs due to its great versatility.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 - The midsole is now one continuous piece of DNA loft foam. DNA Loft is a combination of EVA, rubber and air to create the brooks cushioning system.  The DNA Loft is not overly mushy or soft, but allows for great impact protection.

3.Fit and Sizing

Brooks Glycerin 20 - The upper has a normal fit that’s also suitable for wide feet. However, runners with more narrow feet will need to adjust the lacing for a better lockdown. The toe box is wide and thus adapts to many morphologies. In the toe area, padding provides even more comfort. The whole thing stiffens in the heel and ankle area to provide better support.

Brooks Ghost 14 - The shoe fits true to size, but the foot lockdown is a bit loose. In some cases, it may be better to go a half size down. The thinner mesh also makes the forefoot feel more spacious but it fits true to size.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 - While it boasts a nice and roomy toe box that allows your toes to naturally splay for added stability, the midfoot tends to run a little narrow. This narrow build is by design because it helps to boost your overall lockdown, but it may be a little too narrow for some runners. This sizing of this shoe isn’t like your typical shoe, and some runners may benefit from either selecting a wide fit or simply sizing up a half size. When in doubt, it is best to purchase a half size larger than you would normally wear.

Conclusion: Which Should You Buy?

Ghost 14 is Brooks’ first shoe that is carbon neutral.A lot of people love the Ghost 14 and that love definitely translates well to the Adrenaline because they’re basically the same. They have the same midsole and pretty much the same upper. However, the Glycerin 20 is the top notch when it comes to comfort / plushy feeling. It is one of the softest and bouncy shoes in the market place. However, due to this characteristic (softer midsole), the power output and the stability of Ghost 14 (firmer midsole) is better. Ghost 14 has more balanced ride compared to the Glycerin 20. If you prefer a midsole that is a little more stiff in your everyday trainer, the Ghost is still a super reliable workhorse that won’t disappoint.

The Glycerin 20 is the top of the Cushioned models of Brooks Running Shoes. It is very suitable for long distance runs as well as daily training and it is very durable. This is a plush shoe for neutral pronates. There is also a GTS version “Glycerin GTS 20”. In this version, GuideRails technology has been implemented to increase the stability. By means of this, you can acquire the comfort and the stability at once.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 is an ideal runner for road running, cross training, the gym or daily train. It is the best everyday training shoes for over-pronates.
