Asics Nimbus 24 Review
Price: $160(@ASICS)
The Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 is the newest model in the Nimbus lineup. Nimbus 24 is now one of the lightest, bounciest max-cushioned trainers on the market and it’s definitely worth upgrading to the Nimbus 24, even if you have the Nimbus 23.
It is a super soft max cushioned trainer with a versatile ride. The shoe is built for the long haul as it makes you feel like you are running on a cloud.Creating a softer landing in every step, this shoe is also approx. 20g lighter than the previous version. The upper’s soft engineered mesh and flexible midfoot panel make these shoes more comfortable during long runs. By moving seamlessly with your foot, they help your stride feel smoother in every step. The Asics Gel Nimbus 24 essentially takes the well-loved max cushioned shoe designed for going long, and slaps on a lighter upper and cushioning technology that gives it a much softer, bouncier feeling than previous Nimbus shoes.FF BLAST PLUS cushioning keeps the shoe lightweight while providing a softer feeling underfoot. This material also helps increase the shoe's rebound properties at the toe-off stage. Its new Trusstic technology (under the foot arch) prevents the foot from twisting as you step, which is good news for overpronators.
If you’re looking to conquer your first 5k, train for longer distances or just have fun with running, this trainer offers comfort, cushioning and support.

Brooks Glycerin 20 Review
Price: $160(@Brooks Running)
The story of the Glycerin begins in the late 1990s — in true ‘90s northwest grunge spirit, the name was inspired by the song Glycerine by the band Bush. From early HydroFlow, to our new DNA LOFT, the Glycerin has always had Brooks' most innovative cushion tech. The Brooks Glycerin running shoe line are a great pair running shoes for runners with a medium or high arch and a neutral gait cycle.
The Glycerin 20 neutral cushioned running shoes are the final word on comfort thanks to new, supremely soft DNA LOFT v3 cushioning, an updated, improved fit and silky smooth transitions.DNA LOFT v3 foam is now nitrogen-infused to provide plush cushioning to every step, and even adds a little bounce thanks to its energetic formula. This makes the Glycerin 20 an excellent daily trainer or wear-everywhere shoe for people on their feet.A new, cushioned upper provides a normal to fit that with a little stretch. The changes make for the lightest Glycerin ever, with a smooth forefoot transition, but a slightly clunky heel. Best for easy and long miles, the Glycerin 20 is about comfort for those who want a traditional ride from a newer midsole.

Hoka Clifton 8 Review
Price: $140(@Hoka)
The all-new Hoka Clifton 8 distance running shoe is the latest update in HOKA’s uber-popular maximalist Clifton series of distance running shoes.Crafted with a lighter, more responsive midsole and the same ride characteristics, the Clifton 8 features a streamlined silhouette and updated upper made from engineered mesh. It also keeps everything you love about the HOKA Clifton – namely the early stage meta-rocker, the maximalist-sized compressed EVA midsole, and the super-roomy toe box.Version 8 has a more padded tongue, better outsole rubber placement and it has a slightly faster feel because of its stiffer forefoot.
Whether it's a long-distance or recovery shoe you're after, the Clifton 8 comes highly recommended. It's a literal couch to the foot, keeping it cozy and stable. The ride is also buttery smooth, you will roll through seamlessly. And with all the cushion it gives, it's not at all heavy (a shocker really). The Hoka Clifton 8 is not made for speed or tempo runs but is a solid choice for a daily trainer, and it is great for easy, recovery miles.

New balance 1080v12 Review
Price: $159.99(@New Balance)
What makes the 1080 unique isn’t just that it’s the best running shoe we make, it’s also the most versatile. The 1080 delivers top-of-the-line performance to every kind of runner, whether you’re training for world-class competition, or catching a rush hour train. The Fresh Foam X 1080v12 represents a consistent progression of the model’s signature qualities. The smooth transitions of the pinnacle underfoot cushioning experience are fine-tuned with updated midsole mapping, which applies more foam to wider areas of the midsole and increases flexibility at the narrower points. The ultra-modern outlook is also reflected in the 1080’s upper construction. The v12 offers a supportive, second-skin style fit with an engineered Hypoknit upper, for a more streamlined overall design.
Given the emphasis on comfort, there is also a higher weight, which positions this shoe to be best used for easy and daily mileage without the desire to pick up the pace. Its geometry sets this premium trainer apart from other premium shoes like the Brooks Glycerin, Mizuno Wave Sky, or Saucony Triumph in terms of who may enjoy this shoe and benefit (or not benefit) most from it.

2.Construction and Material
Outsole
Asics Nimbus 24 - Looking at the outsole, there's not a lot that's changed in the Asics Gel Nimbus 24 from the Asics Gel Nimbus 23 so it's still the same configuration regarding the amount of flex grooves on offer through the forefoot, and the same configuration regarding the positioning of that outsole in the back half underneath your heel for heel strikers. There’s relatively little rubber on the outsole of the Nimbus 24 for a daily trainer. It has AHAR+ on the heel and softer AHAR on the forefoot.
Probably the biggest change with regards to the outsole has been the removal of the medial Trusstic device on the Asics Gel Nimbus 23. The Trusstic system has been changed to a floating plastic shank situated in the middle of the midsole instead of on the outsole.
Brooks Glycerin 20 - A thick rubber covers the outsole of the Brooks Glycerin 20 running shoes. The redesigned outsole rubber provides a good grip on the ground, whether dry or wet. It even seems to do its job in gravel. This makes the Brooks Glycerin 20 a versatile trainer, perfect for long daily training sessions or recovery days.
Hoka Clifton 8 - The Clifton 8 has high quantities of blown rubber in the outsole but places it a bit more strategically than in the Clifton 7 to make the midfoot area of the outsole less delicate. The blown rubber from the forefoot extends all the way around to the lateral sides of the midfoot, reinforcing this area of the outsole. In addition, the grooves and lugs in the forefoot of the Clifton 8 are diagonal, instead of horizontal like in the Clifton 7. This makes the forefoot feel a bit stiffer and provides more responsiveness during transitions because there is more resistance during flexion.
New balance 1080v12 - The bottom of the 1080v12 is made from blown rubber.Similar to the previous iterations of this shoe, the outsole confirms the 1080v12 is still best-suited to the roads. The lugs aren’t deep or grippy enough to cope with technical trails, but on wet sidewalks and light tracks, there’s definitely enough traction to keep you safe. The 1080v12 has better ground feel and softer landings due to the exposed midsole foam on the outsole.
Midsole
Asics Nimbus 24 - The Nimbus 24 has a dual-density midsole setup. There’s firmer Flytefoam on the top, in the heel and forefoot with FF Blast+ on the bottom layer, throughout the length of the shoe. This setup makes the heel and midfoot slightly firmer than the forefoot and it also makes heel and midfoot landings more stable. The only negative aspect of the super soft FF Blast+ is that it’s brittle. The shoe is also designed with TRUSSTIC technology, a thermoplastic material that can be found under the arch of the shoe. The plastic material is there to increase stability on the medial side and offer support to the midfoot.
Brooks Glycerin 20 - Brooks has replaced the DNA Loft midsole foam with the DNA Loft V3, a lighter, poppier, nitrogen-infused midsole foam.First spotted on the Brooks Aurora BL, this nitrogen-infused foam now equips the midsole of the Glycerin 20. This foam provides light and soft cushioning, especially for a midfoot strike. This cushioning is durable and soft, which delivers optimal plush comfort. Also, the combination of the 10-mm heel-to-toe drop and widened platform provides much stability.
Hoka Clifton 8 - The Clifton 8 has an oversized EVA compression midsole with a thick stack height. The Clifton 8 has a Metarocker which smoothes the heel-to-toe transitions and the midsole of the Clifton 8 feels soft in the forefoot and heel but doesn’t feel mushy. It gives you some responsiveness with plenty of deep cushioning without any bottoming-out flatness.
New balance 1080v12 - The New Balance 1080v12 uses Fresh Foam X in its midsole which has a good amount of cushioning to feel plush underfoot, yet still enough responsiveness to allow you to pick up the pace should you need it. The tongue is also nicely cushioned. The 1080v12 with its slightly softer midsole is better suited to longer runs.
Upper
Asics Nimbus 24 - The shoe now features an engineered jacquard mesh that is more breathable than the previous knit used on the 23. The mesh tends to flex well, which gives you more room in the toebox for later on in your runs.On the Nimbus 24, the big change is the tongue. A super thin, stretchy, knitted tongue has replaced the normal thick, padded tongue. The thin tongue of the Nimbus 24 makes it a cooler shoe because it lets more air into the vamp of the shoe so this Nimbus might not be suitable for freezing cold temperatures.
Brooks Glycerin 20 - The Brooks Glycerin 20 is available with different uppers. The Stealthfit upper is knit with denser areas that require support and lighter ones where breathability is needed. It’s more lightweight and breathable (the Glycerin 20 is lighter than previous versions, which weighed in at a half-ounce more), without feeling too sock-like.
Hoka Clifton 8 - The Clifton 8 has a new engineered mesh upper with improved ventilation. The Clifton 8 has a padded heel counter which locks down the heel well and a padded tongue which is not sleeved.
New balance 1080v12 - The upper on the New Balance 1080v12 is made from the brand’s “Hypoknit” material and it’s stretchy and comfortable across the top of the foot. The breathable Hypoknit upper is soft and offers a focused structure with a flexible forefoot and a reinforced midfoot for precise lockdown. The upper is a good mix of breathable and supportive. The tongue of the 1080v12 is generously padded and has no tongue slide thanks to the tongue being attached on both sides to the midsole of the shoe. However, the shoe does feel loose, which may not be optimal if you have very narrow feet.
3.Fit and Sizing
Asics Nimbus 24 - The Asics Nimbus 24 fits relatively true to size. It is a bit roomier than standard width throughout. The toebox has generous room for toe splay. The partially recycled material upper is stretchy and accommodating. One of the reasons the Nimbus has succeeded for so long is its comfortable fit on foot, which continues to deliver in the 24th edition.
Brooks Glycerin 20 - The upper has a normal fit that’s also suitable for wide feet. However, runners with more narrow feet will need to adjust the lacing for a better lockdown. The toe box is wide and thus adapts to many morphologies. In the toe area, padding provides even more comfort. The whole thing stiffens in the heel and ankle area to provide better support.
Hoka Clifton 8 - The toe box of the Clifton 8 is wider than previous versions but in general the Clifton 8 has a narrow fit so order the wide version if you don’t have narrow feet. The Clifton 8 fits true to size.
New balance 1080v12 - Fit-wise, the 1080v12 comes up big.I wouldn't say that this shoe is a half size large, but for those who sit between two sizes may do better going with your smaller of the two choices. Overall, this shoe delivers a secure, comfortable, and premium-feeling upper.
Conclusion
Asics,Brooks,New Balance and Hoka are both outstanding brands that are constantly coming up with new concepts to fulfill the needs of their customers.Brooks Glycerin 20,ASICS Gel-Nimbus 24,Hoka Clifton 8 and New balance 1080 offer maximum cushioning and provide excellent shock-absorption.
Runners who are looking for a roomier fit and a wider toe box should consider choosing the Brooks Glycerin. It would be a good choice for those who want softness underfoot without sacrificing responsiveness.
Runners who want more heel cushion may prefer the ASICS Gel-Nimbus, because of the gel unit in the heel. It would also be the better option for those who need a little more stability, as the TRUSSTIC device provides more support. The ASICS Gel-Nimbus may also be the preferred choice for women, as it provides gender-specific features.
If you’re a runner looking for a long distance, max cushioned shoe, get the 1080v12.The 1080v12 has a comfortable upper with great foot lockdown, a Fresh Foam X midsole with deep cushioning that doesn’t feel mushy and an outsole with excellent ground feel.
If you are looking a pure long-distance or recovery trainer with an uber soft ride, the Clifton 8 is for you.Clifton 8 is one of the most cushioned shoes on the market and offers plenty of protection and stability.
