Logitech MK520 vs. MK540 vs. MK710: What are the differences?

No matter how you spend your time on your computer, having a comfortable and functional keyboard and mouse is essential. More often than not, the price of a keyboard and mouse bundle is more affordable than the total price of the individual devices. So I strongly suggest you buy keyboard and mouse combos instead of purchasing the individual devices independently. Logitech is a world leader in the design and innovation of computer peripherals that offer several budget-friendly keyboard-and-mouse bundles, such as Logitech MK520, Logitech MK540, and Logitech MK710, so what are their similarities and differences? Which one should I choose? In this article, I will compare the Logitech MK520, Logitech MK540, and Logitech MK710 in detail to find out which one is the better buy.

Logitech MK520, Logitech MK540 and Logitech MK710 Review

| #1  Logitech MK520 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo

The Logitech MK520 combo includes the Logitech  K520 keyboard and the Logitech M310 mouse. You can connect this combo to your PC with a  2.4GHz USB dongle. The keyboard has a dedicated palm rest and a pair of legs that can be retracted and tilted at an 8-degree angle. That way you can use this keyboard very comfortably. The keys are easy to press, and you can definitely tell when you're typing on them. There are also 3 dedicated media control buttons, as well as 3 sound volume control buttons. It's your standard Windows OS keyboard, so it has the qwerty keys, home/end, arrow keys, and a number trackpad as well. The keyboard also has 15 hotkeys for various functions, from Home and Mail to Application Switcher and PC Lock.  But It’s a shame the keyboard isn’t compatible with Logitech’s latest software utility.

The mouse will work over most surfaces (except glass, you'll need Logitech's Dark Field Technology for that). It only has a left and right button, as well as a scroll wheel, so it's fairly simple compared to other mouses on the market that have other buttons such as thumb buttons. But this mouse has a laser guide, so it's fairly accurate. The battery life of the keyboard is up to 36 months and the battery life of the mouse is up to 18 months. All in all, the Logitech Wireless Combo MK520 is a solid choice for a keyboard and mouse combo which boasts roomy, comfy, and quiet keys, a smooth and substantial mouse, and dedicated media buttons. It’s also affordable, easy to set up, and highly customizable.

PROSCONS
Roomy, comfy designThe mouse is quite basic

| #2  Logitech MK540 Advanced Full-size Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle

The Logitech MK540 is a fine keyboard and mouse combo built for precision, comfort, and reliability. The full-size keyboard features a familiar key shape, size, and feeling – optimized for precision and noise reduction. The keyboard also has adjustable and retractable rear feet that tilt the keyboard at a four or eight-degree angle, for three ‘typing profiles’ including flat. The Logitech MK540 has 10 programmable keys, which you can customize using the Logitech Options app. It also has dedicated volume and media playback keys. The keys provide a quiet stroke, built using membrane-style switches.

The three-ounce ambidextrous mouse that comes bundled with the Logitech MK540 keyboard boasts a rubberized feel on the sides, a subtly bumpy scroll wheel, and a smooth glide that made for satisfying mouse scrolling. As with the keyboard, the MK540’s mouse is programmable via the Logitech Options app. For example, you can set the scroll wheel button to do any of a dozen tasks, from switching apps and launching the Windows calculator to closing a window or even shutting down your PC. You can plug and play your keyboard and mouse with one tiny USB receiver with Logitech Unifying technology. You’ll get a reliable – and encrypted – wireless connection up to 32.8 ft away with virtually no delays or dropouts. The keyboard can last up to 36 months and the mouse can function for up to 18 months without having to replace batteries. Overall, if you’re looking for an affordable wireless keyboard and mouse combo that is comfortable and works well, take Logitech MK540 into consideration.

PROSCONS

| #3  Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 Keyboard and Mouse

The Logitech  MK710 combo contains the MK700 keyboard and the wireless Marathon Laser Mouse M705 for a productive computing experience. The ergonomics on the keyboard are amazing, the key design along with the handy palm rest focuses on allowing maximum comfort. You can work hours on this keyboard without getting tired and keep pushing more. Meanwhile, the mouse features a convenient scroll wheel for speedy navigation and a sculpted design to allow for a comfortable and natural hand position. The Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity offers encrypted, secure cordless technology for reliable connection with virtually no lags or dropouts.

The Logitech MK710 Wireless Combo’s keyboard also has an LCD dashboard to indicate the Num lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and battery life, so you are always able to get a clear idea while working on this combo. It also has multimedia keys included for a quick switch of music or to pause it when you need to talk. Battery life is great too, with Logitech stating the Logitech MK710 can last up to three years on a single charge. The keyboard and mouse are compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. If you are looking for a soft and quiet keyboard with a comfortable mouse, the Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 keyboard and mouse combo satisfy your needs. But due to the Logitech MK710 being among the heaviest, widest, and tallest keyboards in Logotech 's MK lineup, maybe it won't be suitable for people with limited desk space at home.

PROSCONS
Easy to set upLarge and heavy keyboard
Soft and quietLack of programmable buttons
Comfortable wrist restToo small mouse
Tactile key response
Hyperfast scrolling
 LED dash
Designated function and media buttons
Excellent typing experience
 Epic battery life

Bottom Line

Logitech MK520 vs. MK540 vs. MK710: Which Should You Buy?

In fact, All of the three keyboard and mouse combos perform well. But the Logitech MK540 Advanced simply feels like the superior version of the MK520 with a more modern design and utility software.  Its matte finish, well-spaced keys, and lighter mouse all make for a more comfortable typing and clicking experience. More importantly, you can use the Logitech Options app to customize  Logitech MK540's keys and buttons. Moreover, the Logitech MK540 and the Logitech MK520 are available at close to the same price, so there is no doubt that the Logitech MK540 is a better choice.

If you have an adequate budget and enough space on your desk,  the Logitech MK710 is also a good option. It has a better keyboard and mouse than Logitech MK520 and MK540. The keyboard is more comfortable, as the wrist rest is soft and cushy. It can save you from wrist pain. The mouse is also better, armed with a laser sensor for high-performance tracking and accuracy.
