Surface Pro 8, iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ Review
| #1 Microsoft Surface Pro 8
Google Users Rating: /
The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 is a phenomenal 2-in-1 tablet with a powerful 11th gen Intel CPU and a vivid 13-inch display. This brings almost double the graphics power with the new CPU – as there is a 40-percent elevation in CPU performance and 74-percent faster graphics sustained performance. The 13-inch PixelSense screen sees a bump up in resolution at 2880 x 1920 (267 PPI) and comes with Dolby Vision and Adaptive Color technology which promises sublime content viewing on the device. But the biggest plus comes in the form of an upgrade in the screen refresh rate that goes from 60Hz to 120Hz.
The rear-facing camera module of Surface Pro 8 also gets an upgrade, as it now offers a 10MP camera at 1080p HD and 4K video resolution. The front-facing shooter is the same at 5MP with 1080p full HD video resolution. For creatives or prolific note-takers, the new Slim Pen 2 combined with the Type Cover will give you a built-in stylus with a tactile feel that makes for an improved inking experience. In a word, The Surface Pro 8 is the latest and greatest Surface Pro yet, thanks to a larger 13-inch display with a higher refresh rate than ever at 120Hz, more powerful processors, a brand new and eminently usable OS built-in from the jump, and expandable productivity thanks to two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
PROS | CONS |
Modern design with thin bezels and larger (13-inch) display | Relatively expensive |
Faster processors | No more USB Type-A |
Good audio, with louder speakers | Slim Pen 2 and Signature keyboard sold separately |
Superior 1080p webcam | |
Dual Thunderbolt 4 ports
SSD is easily accessible
Improved split-screen experience in Windows 11
Versatile 2-in-1 form factor |
| #2 Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2024)
Google Users Rating: 4.8
Apple's 2021 iPad Pro lineup, unveiled in March, is by far the most capable and impressive iPad lineup we've seen. With a remarkably high 1,600-nit peak brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 2048 x 2732 resolution, the new mini-LED screen is simply the best display on any tablet. What's more, the new M1 processor which is the version with 8 CPU and 8 GPU cores is stunningly fast. This chipset was lifted straight from Apple’s top-end Macs, so you’re truly getting desktop power in a tablet here. The Appl iPad Pro 12 inch (2024) also has a strong camera feature with a 12MP wide camera and 10MP ultra-wide, 2x optical and 5x digital zoom, panoramas up to 63MP, and 4K video recording with five studio-quality microphones.
In addition, the Appl iPad Pro 12 inch (2024) has a long-lasting battery, a premium aluminum design, and support for the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2 – these are sold separately, but turn it into a real productivity machine. Its Thunderbolt 4 port enables faster syncing between the iPad and external storage devices, as well as more reliable connections to external monitors. You can get 8GB of RAM on versions up to and including the model with 512GB storage and 16GB of RAM for the bigger ones. The only weak point is iPadOS, which is still a little clunky when it comes to multitasking. But if you need a tablet that's as powerful as a MacBook Pro then the iPad Pro delivers in spades.
PROS | CONS |
Slim, durable chassis | Expensive |
Stunning mini-LED HDR display | iPadOS can't unleash M1's power |
Crazy fast CPU and GPU speeds | Not true multi-monitor support |
Excellent cameras and audio
Fantastic FaceTime features
5G now available | |
Strong battery life | |
Thunderbolt 3 and USB4 support
Has the best tablet app ecosystem |
| #3 Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+
Google Users Rating: 4.8
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is a serious rival to the iPad Pro range. It not only goes toe-to-toe with the iPad Pros in terms of performance but does so in terms of style and build quality, too – this tablet is only 5.7mm thick! It is whilst also boasting exciting embellishments in the form of excellent stereo speakers and a solid in-display fingerprint scanner. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus CPU inside is also excelled which can handle pretty much any task thrown at it. The star of the show is the Tab S7 Plus' 12.4-inch AMOLED screen, which has a super crisp resolution of 1752 x 2800 and, in what will be music to Android tablet lovers' ears, a refresh rate of 120Hz.
There's so much more on offer, too, such as the 5G model, a triple camera system, and excellent Samsung applications. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ comes loaded with up to 256GB of internal storage space. To be honest, though, even if you plump for the 128GB model (which is cheaper), then you can easily upgrade its storage as this tablet comes with a microSD card slot. Throw in Samsung's excellent S Pen Digital Stylus as well as a keyboard cover (sold separately, unfortunately) and you've got yourself not just a slate but a hyper-powerful creative tool and laptop replacement. In a word, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is the very best Android tablet on the market today.
PROS | CONS |
Incredibly thin, sturdy aluminum design | Just one port |
top-shelf performance | Android app integration still falls behind iPadOS |
Great sound quality | |
One of the best displays on any tablet
Bundled useful S Pen and note-taking software
5G connectivity option
Large battery with fast charging
Samsung DeX mitigates Android's lack of tablet app support |
Verdict
Surface Pro 8 vs. iPad Pro vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+: Which is Right for You?
First, these are three completely different tablets with distinct target audiences. Surface Pro 8 is a tablet running Windows, which may be enough for some to buy the Surface Pro 8. Because there are so many people who still use Windows for work, be it through software or business requirements, or simply from being used to it.
iPad Pro has always been a leader in the tablet field. It offers a better tablet experience than Android and windows. So the iPad Pro 12-inch 2021 is an absolute winner in the three tablets. If you want the best tablet that money can buy, look no further than the iPad Pro 12-inch 2024.
But from the perspective of value for money, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is a good choice. You can save some extra buck while getting a similar flagship-level performance as the iPad Pro 12.9 (2024) and Surface Pro 8. It is the best Android tablet on the market right now.
