What is a high-speed blender?

As the name implies, a high-speed blender is one that has more power when compared with regular blenders. Most high-speed blenders have about 1000 to 1,560 watts of power.

Besides, the blender jar will be made of super-strong, high-grade plastic. Why plastic? The friction and power of high-speed blenders is so burly, it can make glass blender jars shatter.

If you plan to take your cooking skills up a notch, then a high-speed blender might just be what you need. With a high speed blender there is no limit to what kind of smoothies or other creations you would like to make. For example, you can make a hot soup in less than 3 minutes. Simply put your desired vegetables in the blender and add hot water, press blend and in about 45-90 seconds you will be pouring yourself a hot vegetable soup. The speed of the blender’s blades not only completely chop up the vegetables, but also create heat through friction.

Ninja is a manufacturer that makes home appliances like blenders and ovens. Generally, their blenders have impressive build quality, and although they're mostly made of plastic, they feel solid and durable. Most of their jars, lids, and blade assemblies can go right into the dishwasher for an easy clean. Some of their blenders also include a couple of unique attachments and accessories, like a food processor or a micro-juicer.

NutriBullet

Nutribullet - go to homepage

A NutriBullet is a single-serve blender, most commonly used for smoothies. But they can also make dips, salad dressings, sauces and cocktails. In 2003, the NutriBullets' company introduced the bullet style Magic Bullet Blender, the model gained popularity, and by 2004 the NutriBullet bullet-style design was patented. Later, a series of othermodels followed, and NutriBullet blenders took by storm the blending market.

The NutriBullet advertisement claimed it is a powerful breakfast weapon that, although slightly different in design from both a traditional blender and a common juicer, can easily substitute them both. It is a real nutrition extractor, for it can pulverize all elements from food ingredients of your choice.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a High-Speed Blender

Safety

Safety is very important.Since mixers are often countertop appliances, the blender must be designed in a way to keep the cord from moisture.

Other blenders come with dedicated safety features. For example, there are some that feature safety locks that stop the machine from starting abruptly.

Size

If you don't want to keep your blender on your countertop, look for a lightweight model. They're more portable, but also more likely to move around on the countertop when in use. If you plan to keep your blender on the counter, you may also want to consider the height as some models are too tall to fit neatly underneath kitchen cabinets.

Blades

While it seems counter-intuitive, better performing blenders do not come with sharp blades (which tend to dull overtime). Instead, they come with strong blades that stand the test of time and are able to pulverize just about anything. This also makes them much safer to clean.

Cleaning Ease

Blenders with a conventional design (with a motor base and a pitcher) can self-clean quite effectively. Pour some water and a bit of dish soap in the pitcher and run at high speed. The process will clean the blade and the inside of the container without hassle.

Speed

Look for blenders with between 3 and 10 speed settings. Less than three won’t give you enough control, and more than 10 settings isn’t necessary. Having a pulse button is essential, though!

Some models come with additional presets, which are combinations of specific speeds and times. They are ideal for tasks such as ice crushing, soup pureeing, or making single serving of smoothies.

Power

Power is one of the factors that will affect the overall performance of the blender. The power determines the speed of the blender’s blades. Blenders with stronger motors work faster, produce finer blended results. They are usually built to run longer than their lower-powered counterparts. This, however, tends to make them larger and more expensive.

Capacity

When choosing the capacity of the blender, you have to think about the amount of food that you plan to blend at a time. If you have a large family, you might want to opt for a blender with a similarly large capacity. Small blenders are great for small portions, and they offer enhanced ease of storage.

The capacity of the blender ranges from around one liter to up to three liters. If you have the space for it, and if it isn’t too much, you can get one with a larger capacity.

Price

Top-tier conventional models appear more frequently in the $200 – $400 range, with some exceeding $500. They are better built and their motors are more heavy duty. As the cost goes up, you may also get more accessories and perhaps more power.

Material

The material of the container is also an important consideration. In most high-speed blenders, the material of the box is either made of glass or plastic. Glass is heavier, but won’t retain odors or stain as easily as plastic models. Most high-powered blenders do not use glass jars because they're not guaranteed to be completely shatterproof, but if you really want glass, look for one that’s been thermal shock tested (which means you can blend ice in a canister that's come straight from the dishwasher). Many of our top performing blenders have jars made of BPA-free

There is also a stainless steel container. If you will be crushing ice in the blender, a stainless steel container is an excellent option.

How to Clean a High-Speed Blender

Some models have blender jars and lids that are dishwasher-safe on the top rack, but others recommend hand-washing only.

Wash the blender jar right after you’re done using it. Food is much easier to clean off when it has not dried into a crust or film. The easiest way to wash a blender jar is to do the following:

  1. Fill the jar halfway with warm water.

  2. Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid.

  3. Start the machine on low speed, then increase the speed gradually.

  4. Run it on high for 30 seconds to a minute.

  5. Rinse out the jar very well and wash any lingering food residue off the lid and plug as needed.

  6. Voila – a clean blender!
