List of Stores That Give the Highest Cashback on Debit/Credit/Discover Card Purchases 2024
Isn’t it great to shop at your favorite store and withdraw the cash you need while making a purchase? Some stores allow you to receive debit card cash back without visiting the bank or ATM. While some stores only allow small cash-back amounts, such as $10 or $20, others like Albertsons, Food Lion, Kroger, Safeway, and Walmart give up to $100 or more. For the list of stores that give the most cash back at the register, see below.
How Do I Get Cash Back?
User-friendly point-of-sale systems and card readers provide a simple way for you to get cash back at the register while paying for your purchase. Most stores do not have a minimum purchase amount, so you could buy any single item — even one costing less than $1 — and still receive cash back.
You can receive cash back when paying with a debit card, and in some cases, you can also get cash back when paying with a credit card or personal check.
Stores may or may not charge a fee for getting cash back at the register; it’s often a convenience they provide their customers at no charge. However, some stores do charge a small cash-back fee (usually $1 to $4). Most of the stores listed below do not charge a fee.

How Can I Get Cash Back with a Debit Card?
When you use your debit card while shopping at a store, you may be allowed to get physical cash back. You can just withdraw cash from your checking account while paying for your purchases. In most cases, you won’t have to pay a fee.
Follow these instructions:
Use the card reader and enter your PIN.
Choose that you’d like your purchases to be processed as debit. If you select the credit option, you won’t get the cash back.
You will be asked if you want to get cash back. Enter “Yes.”
Choose or enter the amount of cash back you want.
When the transaction is over, you will be charged for the purchase. The cash withdrawal amount will be added to the charge.
You will get the receipt and the cash back you asked for.
How Can I Get Cash Back with a Credit Card?
Most credit cards do not allow cash back at the register. We contacted major credit card companies, including American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa, to determine their cash back policies. Only Discover’s “cash over” feature allows you to get cash back on your in-store purchases at participating retailers, customer service representatives said.
At the checkout station of a participating retailer — either a cashiered lane or self-checkout — your Discover card will offer cash back amount choices, just like a debit card does. Keep in mind that Discover only allows cash over withdrawals to total $120 in a 24-hour period. Some stores will also have additional limits on how much cash customers can request; for example, Walmart limits cash back to $100 per transaction.
Discover does not charge a fee for cash over withdrawals, but some individual stores do charge a small fee for cash-back transactions.

How Can I Get Cash Back With a Personal Check?
While cards and digital payment methods have been on the rise in recent years, personal checks are still welcomed by many retailers. And, among retailers that accept checks as payment, some also allow customers to get cash back at the register.
Getting cash back at the register with a personal check is fairly straightforward. Instead of writing the check for the amount of the purchase, you write the check for the amount of the purchase plus the amount of cash back you desire. For example, if your purchase comes to $15.32 and you want $25 cash back, you would write the check for $40.32 to get your desired amount of cash back.
Most stores will require you to show a valid, government-issued ID when using a personal check, and some may require you to also have a store loyalty card. Also, keep in mind that all stores have cash-back limit policies, with most giving between $20 and $40 cash back.
