Musical Instrument Museum

The World's Only Global Musical Instrument Museum. It is a museum filled instruments, set up by continent and region. Wonderful music videos filled with the instruments, dancers and singers. Home of the MIM Music Theater--a 300-seat acoustically superb performance space--as well as the award-winning Café Allegro (open 11 am - 2 pm daily) and the MIM Museum Store. The Musical Instrument Museum is a must do for anyone that loves music, musical instruments or would like to learn more about the music and instruments of different cultures from around the world.

The average guest spends nearly four hours at MIM. You can allow plenty of time to fully enjoy MIM's galleries and exhibits. Open daily, 9 am - 5 pm; Closed Thanksgiving; Open Christmas, 11 am - 5 pm.

Heard Museum

Since its founding in 1929, the Heard Museum has grown in size and stature to become recognized internationally for the quality of its collections, world-class exhibitions, educational programming and its unmatched festivals. Heard Museum reveals the cultures of tribes in the region through exhibits, demonstrations and live performances and displays the work of contemporary Native American artists. Artists demonstrate their work during the week and musicians perform on most weekends.

Desert Botanical Garden

Desert Botanical Gardens is a top-rate botanical garden. Really beautiful gardens with almost all native plants. Lots to see, lots to photograph, and lots to learn. Discover the tranquil vibrancy of desert plants nestled amid the red rocks of the Papago Buttes. You can stroll through five thematic trails to explore the fascinating beauty of the Sonoran Desert, from towering cacti and alluring succulents to brilliant wildflowers and lush trees. It's the best place to take out of towners or intowners in Phoenix.

Day 3: Sedona

Oak Creek Canyon

Oak Creek Canyon is a historical site and must for anyone traveling to Sedona, Arizona. It’s a river gorge and often described as the sister of the Grand Canyon because of the gorgeous scenery. Breathtaking in its red rock beauty, the Canyon is a spectacular 16-mile gorge with streams and waterfalls between sheer rock walls.

Bell Rock

Bell Rock is one of the most well-known red-rock formations found in the greater Sedona area. Conveniently located right off Red Rock Scenic Byway (Arizona State Route 179) roughly 15 minutes south of Sedona, just north of the village of Oak Creek, Bell Rock is an easily accessible destination for visitors to the region.

Chapel of the Holy Cross

This chapel, located among dramatic rock formations, offers spectacular views, especially at sunset. This striking structure is built right into the side of a fine example of one of Sedona’s world-famous red-rock buttes. The red-rock cliffside into which Chapel of the Holy Cross is built sits some 1,000 feet high, while the Chapel itself rises another 250 or so feet into the air. Taken together, it’s a magnificent setting for a building, providing visitors with tremendous views in a number of directions.

Day 4: Flagstaff

Walnut Canyon National Monument

Walnut Canyon National Monument features beautiful layers of Coconino Sandstone and Kaibab Limestone. This archaeological site also has several cliff dwellings left by the Sinagua culture that once lived here. See millions of years of history unraveled in the geology of the rocks at this popular scenic and historic hiking area.

Wupatki National Monument

Wupatki National Monument is located near the San Francisco Peaks, which once housed almost 100 members of the Anasazi and Sinagua tribes. Rich in Native American ruins, the monument is administered by the National Park Service in close conjunction with the nearby Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument

Lowell Observatory

Located right at the city limits of Flagstaff, Arizona, Lowell Observatory has been a hub of the efforts to explore space and better understand the vast universe around us for over a century now. It offers telescope viewing, exhibits and science center, daytime guided tours, safe viewing of the Sun, multimedia programs, shows in the McAllister Space Theatre, special events throughout the year, and an astronomy gift shop.

Day 5: Williams

Its location just 60 miles from the southern rim of the Grand Canyon makes Williams a popular stop for visitors to the natural beauty of Arizona. In the more immediate surrounds, the Kaibab National Forest and the Bill Williams Mountain area provide ample opportunities for camping, hiking and adventure.

America’s Southwest is full of breathtaking canyons, but none as famous or as widely visited as the Grand Canyon. This world-famous landmark offers wondrous views, spectacular hiking, exhilarating whitewater rafting and countless adventures. The Bright Angel and South Kaibab Trails offer stunning views, but if hiking's not your cup of tea, rent a bicycle or take a scenic drive through the park.

Day 6: Page

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience (although technically located in Glen Canyon.) The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River, 4 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam, and 7 miles north of mile zero of the Grand Canyon.

Antelope Canyon

Located near Lake Powell, this "slot" canyon is considered sacred by the Navajo. Antelope Canyon is possibly the most famous slot canyon in the world. Located on the Navajo Reservation, a few miles east of Page, it is open by tour only. Wind and water have carved sandstone into an astonishingly sensuous temple of nature where light and shadow play hide and seek. It's less than a city block long (about a quarter mile), a symphony of shapes and textures that are a photographer's dream.
