Both controllers feature Hall Effect sticks for precise and smooth movement control. They also have analog and hair trigger modes for customizable gameplay experiences. GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Controller Review

The GameSir G8 Galileo is a mobile gaming controller that connects to your phone via USB-C and transforms it into a handheld console, which means it works with most Android phones and the iPhone 15 series. One downside to the USB-C connector is that it won’t work with some cases. Plus, it has a USB-C port so you can charge while you play and a 3.5mm headphone jack if you like wired earbuds.

The GameSir G8 Galileo has a similar layout to an Xbox controller, with its asymmetric sticks, a D-pad and four face buttons. What sets it apart is the inclusion of hall-effect sticks and two additional rear buttons for customizable remapping. It boasts a USB-C port for pass-through charging and comes with the GameSir app, which enables you to easily map controls for any game. GameSir’s website also notes that the controller works with Steam Link, PS Remote Play, and Moonlight. The only rather dull aspect of the G8's design is its color, which is a kind of muted grey.

GameSir X4 Aileron Xbox Mobile Gaming Controller Review

The GameSir X4 Aileron is a great mobile controller that aims to give you all the best features you expect to find in not only the best gaming handhelds but also the best controllers full stop. It’s an impressive device that makes you question if the Backbone is still the best option for your on-the-go gaming.

The GameSir X4 Aileron targets the most competitive smartphone gamers with premium mobile controllers like the X4 Aileron. This Bluetooth Android device has a collapsible form factor that still allows for full-sized modular sticks and buttons. Some added perks like RGB lighting make the X4 Aileron more appealing than many console alternatives.

Split mobile controllers have obvious portability advantages but introduce more connectivity challenges. With each half of the X4 Aileron communicating using RF while relying on Bluetooth to pair with phones, gamers may have concerns about latency. However, perhaps the best quality of this GameSir controller is its no-hassle connectivity to phones. Once paired over Bluetooth, gamers only need to reattach each side of the device to smartphones to reinitiate the connection.

With the X4 Aileron, the manufacturer aims at its most premium competition from brands like Razer and Backbone One. While still pricey, GameSir's mobile controller is one of the first to include esports-grade buttons and sticks in an ultra-portable two-piece design. Not only does the bracketless controller interlock to enhance portability, but it also leaves more room for coolers and wireless chargers. In addition, the X4 Aileron doesn't skimp on extras, shipping with a carrying case chock-full of swappable parts and accessories. Buyers will never question its durability, and regulation-sized components ease the transition from console and PC controllers. Programmable back buttons make it a solution for competitive gamers who seek an advantage over increasingly adept mobile opposition. Dedicated gamers won't complain, but virtually mapping buttons to touch commands in titles without native controller support does take effort.

Design and Feel:

GameSir G8 Plus Bluetooth Mobile Controller

GameSir has opted for a very subtle and minimalist design for the G8+. In contrast, it looks very similar to the original G8 controller, with some minor tweaks, but it still comes in a larger size compared to other gaming controllers. The matte-black finish, along with a nice and soft anti-slip textured surface at the back, feels much better in the hand and provides great comfort during extended gaming sessions.

The layout of the GameSir G8+ gaming controller will be familiar to Xbox gamers, with its triggers, joysticks, buttons, and full-size D-pad mirroring that of the Xbox controller. Despite its large size, making it less portable, the controller offers excellent ergonomics and a near-console-like feel, especially considering its price point.

The new G8+ mobile controller weighs 314 grams, a significant increase from the 215 grams of last year’s model. You’ll notice the heft when mounting the phone on it. The controller features a magnetic faceplate that is easily detachable. GameSir also includes three different sizes of thumbsticks in the box – tall, short, and extra short – allowing you to easily switch these out according to your preferences.

The G8+ boasts a similar layout to the Xbox controller, with a full-size D-Pad, ABXY face buttons, off-set joysticks, triggers, menu, view, screenshot, mode, home, and macros buttons.

On the bottom, you find a Bluetooth pairing button and a USB-C port for charging, as well as wired connections. GameSir has omitted the headphone jack and USB-C connector from the G8+, which is a positive change. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity support, you can effortlessly connect your smartphone to the controller, even if it has a sizable camera module, without any issues.

The mobile game controller features an extensible design that easily supports devices with screen sizes of up to 8 inches without any issues. The slotting design is optimized for smartphones with a small camera module. There’s no problem with the case. However, make sure the case isn’t rugged; otherwise, you’ll need to take it off to use the G8+. Unlike other GameSir controllers, the G8+ doesn’t come with a hard shell carrying case.

GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Controller

GameSir G8 Galileo Mobile Controller is bigrounded with proper grips, and with full joystick and triggers - basically an Xbox controller with a gigantic hole in the middle for your mobile devices. This does make it less portable compared to the Kishi V2 or the Backbone, but in return you get better ergonomics and near console-like feel and performance.

Speaking of performance, the Gamesir G8 packs in Hall Effect joysticks, so the dreaded stick drift issue is not much of a worry here. The joysticks can also be swapped for the three additional ones provided in the box. You get a domed-shaped joystick with circular ribs for grip, and a taller concave one similar to the default configuration. Swapping them out is painless - pop out the front faceplate on either joystick (held by magnets), pull out the joystick head, punch in the new one, and you are done.

The G8 adopts the Xbox controller layout with ABXY face buttons, off-set joysticks, standard bumpers and triggers, Start and Select buttons, as well as a Gamesir home button, and screenshot and macros buttons. On the back, you get two additional paddles that can be configured to any other button using the Gamesir app.

All of the buttons feel excellent to use - they are clicky and punchy, and the overall device feels sturdy enough for rough use. However, the triggers do feel a bit plastic-y - not in terms of how they feel, but rather how they sound. It simply sounds like you are smashing two pieces of plastic together and they can get loud and annoying if you are using it with someone else in the room. If you are used to Xbox’s more smoother triggers, these will annoy you at first.

The most impressive thing about the G8 is how the USB-C connection is implemented. Unlike the Kishi V2 or the Backbone, the USB-C jack can be tilted up or down, basically giving some wiggle room when you are placing the device in. This prevents straining the port on the controller as well as on the device itself, giving some peace of mind that you won’t break it by mistake. Finally, the controller also features a USB-C passthrough for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack, placed near the bottom of the device, so you can run those cables without it interfering with the screen or the grips.

GameSir X4 Aileron Xbox Mobile Gaming Controller

The split construction of the X4 Aileron has been used in a few other mobile controllers. However, GameSir perhaps executes the design with the fewest compromises. Although it remains on the chunky side, interlocking each side of the X4 Aileron saves a decent amount of space compared to mobile controllers with sliding back brackets. Without brackets surrounding the sides of a phone, more of a device remains accessible, which helps with cooling. Strong magnets ensure the controller won't disassemble when traveling without considerable force.

The default cross d-pad is elevated a surprising amount above the controller's surface and feels just as satisfying to mash on as the XYAB buttons. Most gamers will prefer this component when used as a fighting game controller, but a circular alternative easily snaps on. To aid virtual fighters and shooting game fans, the X4 Aileron also has L4/R4 buttons on the controller's backside next to the handle grips. These commands aren't defined by default but can be easily remapped to standard top triggers or other buttons in the GameSir app.

Along with the vital controls, the X4 Aileron includes an Xbox button to aid with cloud gaming navigation. When not using the Android app, gamers can press the small M button below the right analog stick in combination with other controls to change RGB lighting, volume levels, and hair-trigger settings.

One unexpected design element of the X4 Aileron is the dynamic lighting surrounding each analog stick. As seen with a handful of other premium mobile controllers like the Razer Kishi Ultra, gamers can choose between solid or multi-color effects or disable the lighting completely. Currently, there is no way to sync the RGB lighting with in-game events, but that may come at some point in the future.

GameSir's controller charges with a USB-C port on the bottom of its left half. However, gamers will need to interlock the controller before recharging. Playing while charging with a cable is impossible, but the X4 Aileron supports some wireless chargers. Unfortunately, there also is no passthrough port to charge a phone or other devices while the controller is attached.

Lastly, you don’t have to be locked into only one stick size, GameSir provides you with three different options in Alieron’s box. It comes default with a smaller-than-regular Xbox-style thumbstick but in its very handy travel case, you’ll also find the options for full-sized Xbox-style sticks as well as the Backbone-style ones. The full-size ones to be the most comfortable and the most appealing for long gaming sessions. Regardless of which thumbstick style you choose, you’ll be using GameSir’s Hall Effect sticks when gaming, something which you’d expect to find on the best PC controllers, so it’s nice to have here.
