Born from speed, The Endorphin Pro 2 was designed to help you step up your race pace, one step at a time. A superior fit and more heel support mean you can keep your eye on the finish line. And with the ultralight PWRRUN PB and a carbon fiber plate, there's no doubt you'll get there faster than ever before. It was definitely built for race day but performs well at various other speeds.Other features also include SPEEDROLL Technology, FORMFIT, A single-layer engineered mesh upper, and XT-900 outsole with reinforced high-abrasion zones. The new system gives your foot an overall locked-in fit. You can thank the extra loophole that is placed in the middle of the lacing system, which keeps the top of your foot nice and snug when you’re putting in those miles.

Not much has changed from the debut of this shoe in 2020 except the colorways, but that’s a good thing since V1 was also pretty awesome. This shoe is comfortable, snappy and springy underfoot, lightweight, breathable, and of course, carbon plated!

2.Construction and Material

  • Outsole

Endorphin Speed 2 - The Endorphin speed 2 uses the XT-900 outsole which helps increase the durability of the shoe, and it even uses reinforced high-abrasion zones to provide optimal traction and durability. From a visual standpoint, there is minimal rubber in the midfoot and heel but it offers just enough grip to keep you stable. That being said, as the shoes wear out they become much slicker on greenways and roads.

Endorphin Pro 2 - The Endorphin Pro 2 has an XT-900 outsole with reinforced high-abrasion zones that provide you with traction and durability. This outsole is strategically placed in all the right places. They performed well in wet and dry weather conditions.

Endorphin Shift 2 - The one big weakness of the Endorphin Shift 2 is outsole durability. The exposed midsole foam on the outsole as well as the outsole rubber show a lot of wear early on.

  • Midsole

Endorphin Speed 2 - The Speed’s 2 midsole has the same configuration as on the first original model. It features the PWRRUN PB Peba-based lightweight cushioning. The PWRRUN PB Foam is Saucony’s secret weapon. It is not only soft and cushioned, but it equally provides a high energy return and adds durability to the model. The foam is found in high concentrations in the heel but is evenly distributed through the midsole. It claims to add an extra 5% impact absorption for faster energy return which is evident by the springy and snappy feel.Additionally, the foam can withstand many miles and rebounds nicely after runs. And it feels slightly bouncier in the Speed than the Pro because there’s only a nylon plate in there which isn’t quite as stiff and as firm as the carbon plate in the Pro.

Endorphin Pro 2 - The midsole also features PWRRUN PB: thousands of granules of PEBA (or Pebax), a flexible, naturally responsive, low-density elastomer that is bonded together and wraps around the sole’s carbon plate propulsion. SPEEDROLL technology is where I think this shoe stands out from the rest.SPEEDROLL  is a slim design that aims to make the midsole’s foam and carbon plate work efficiently to achieve fast propulsion with their smooth transition from heel to forefoot.

Endorphin Shift 2 - The Endorphin Shift has a thicker midsole than the Speed and Pro.However,he cushioning of the Endorphin Shift 2 is maximum in quantity, quality, and comfort! The PWRRUN midsole of the Endorphin Shift 2 feels like regular EVA foam which doesn’t provide much energy return but it also doesn’t feel outdated because of its midsole geometry. The Shift also has the SpeedRoll technology which is the one thing that’s a feature across the range and it’s really well designed.

  • Upper

Endorphin Speed 2 - Endorphin Speed features a more traditional light and airy mesh that Saucony has used in other shoes in the past. The thin engineered mono mesh has more perforations, making it more breathable. Also, it slightly stretches around the forefoot if you need it to. While they are barely noticeable, the mesh upper and its Formfit technology use a few overlays to give some structure to the upper and improve durability by preventing the fabric from tearing.

Additionally, there is a semi-gusseted tongue which helps keep the foot secure in the shoe and improves the lockdown feel. The laces are also quite comfortable. They are smooth and lay nicely on the foot without causing any pinching or squeezing.

Endorphin Pro 2 - The Endorphin Pro features a thinner and reduced upper reminiscent of racing flat. The upper on the shoe is inspired by Saucony’s cross-country and track shoe lineup and is a single layer of engineered mesh. The new lacing system has elastic bands that are strategically placed to help achieve a more locked-in fit and helps to keep the tongue in place.

Endorphin Shift 2 - The excellent upper of the Endorphin Shift 2 is made from a breathable engineered mesh which is so porous that you can see your socks through the toe box.An enhanced shape that provides a snugger fit for better support, especially for narrow feet.A padded and gusseted tongue, to protect the top of the foot and avoid unwanted slipping while running.

3.Fit and Sizing

Endorphin Speed 2 - In terms of sizing, even though the forefoot is roomier, some runners report that the heel fit may feel a bit narrow while remaining true to size.

Endorphin Pro 2 - The Endorphin Pro 2 is true to size and has a ton of room in the midfoot and toe box.

Endorphin Shift 2 - The fit is definitely true to size and the midfoot and forefoot are spacious enough for runners with wide feet.

Conclusion: Which One Should You Choose?

The Endorphin Speeds are great shoes for any runner looking for a great neutral every day running shoe. Something you can train and race in. The Endorphin Pro is the same great shoe just designed for racing. And not meant to take the wear and tear of everyday training miles. But they are fast.

The Shift is a really solid everyday trainer but not as exciting as the Speed. It is heavier but provides great cushioning through both PWRRUN cushioning and a layer of PWRRUN+, keeping your legs fresh. The Shift also feels more stable than the Speed. The slightly thicker upper will also give you more protection from dirt and stones. These are the shoes you can rely on for everyday training. If you want a shoe for more mileage and recovery days then go for the Shift.

Overall, as the Speed is so versatile, offering speed via its nylon plate, as well as the level of cushioning you want for easier miles, it could be the shoe to invest in if you're budget only allows for one pair.
