Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Design

Fossil Gen 6

  • For Gen 6, you're getting a bit more variety in terms of looks and options that are better suited to men and women. There are several color (including Black, a grayish Smoke, and Rose Gold) available with 42mm and 44mm case options available.

  • The Fossil uses 22mm and 18mm straps based on case size that you opt for with additional leather, silicone and steel straps available. There's a mix of touchscreen and physical buttons when it comes to interacting with these devices.

  • The Fossil Gen 6’s design doesn’t change much on its predecessors – it’s still a black-cased round smartwatch with varying watch bands (like the default black flexible plastic watch bands) and a crown on the right side flanked by pusher buttons on either side. The new wearable has gotten a few tweaks to set it apart from the Gen 5, so it’s not exactly the same, but you’d have to get close to tell the difference. The most obvious change is the small ridge on the edge of the bezel, which is certainly more visually interesting than the clean edges of the Fossil Gen 5.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has a round dial that resembles the Galaxy Watch Active 2 released years ago. Unlike a stainless steel and plastic sandwich in the Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS, you get aluminum casing through and through. It is on the slimmer side and sits comfortably on your wrist. There is no rotating bezel like the G4 classic or the old GW3. However, there are two size options: 40mm & 44mm.

  • There are two inconspicuous buttons on the side. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are extremely lightweight and have passable protection against water. The silicone band that comes with the watch, however, has been a major letdown. It is uncomfortable to wear during sleep and can’t handle intense workouts. Meanwhile, the color options are not that great: The 40mm Watch 4 comes in black, gold, and silver, while the 44mm model comes in black, green, and silver.

TicWatch Pro 3

  • Similarly, Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS has a circular design and resembles a traditional timepiece. It has a sleek appearance with its matte black metal case, black glossy dial with thin bezels, and relatively thin build. The watch is quite big at 48mm wide and therefore is highly suitable for those with large wrists.

  • Ticwatch is relatively chunky (compare its 12.2mm thickness to Galaxy Watch’s 9.8mm). It has two pronounced buttons on the side for easy navigation when your hands are sweaty. Mobvoi features a premium silicone band in this watch that looks like a leather band.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Battery Life

Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch also comes with a magnetic charging dock that can charge the smartwatch by up to 80 percent in over 30 minutes. The claimed battery life of the smartwatch was over 24 hours in extended mode.
Samsung’s Tizen-based smartwatches were among the best on the market every year without fail, and their long-lasting battery life was one of the best things about them. Where Android watches would only promise 24 hours of battery life, Samsung promised up to 3 days of endurance! And with light to moderate use, going two days without having to charge those watches was quite easy, even on the smaller models with their lower-capacity batteries. With the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, however, battery life has seen a drastic downgrade, even when the watches are sitting idle with very little screen time! Any proper use — checking a few notifications, tracking a workout or two, stuff like that — brings battery life squarely down to a day, making charging every night or morning a necessity.

TicWatch Pro 3: Super-long battery life to keep you going every step of the way.

Up to 72 hours in smart mode. Tilt-to-wake, press the button or touch the screen to activate the smart mode. Enjoy the thousand of Apps and watch faces in big Retina AMOLED watch screen.

Up to 45 days in essential mode. Switch to the Essential Mode automatically when battery life is running on its last 5% or tap to turn into the Essential Mode manually. Save battery life without losing key information.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Wear OS Version

Samsung uses a modded version of Wear OS called One UI Watch 3 which is based on Wear OS 3. The other two watches run the older Wear OS. However, Fossil has committed to updating the watch in 2025. And TicWatch Pro 3 is  theoretically getting updated before the end of 2025.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Performance

On the performance front:

  • The Fossil is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4100+ platform, which is the latest version of its smartwatch platform for Wear. That comes with 1GB of RAM and a smaller 8GB of storage.

  • Samsung is using a Exynos W920 dual core processor with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage to keep things nice and zippy.

  • The TicWatch Pro 3 is the first device running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100 processor, and it provides a much-needed performance boost.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Connectivity

Fossil Gen 6

  • You are provided with varieties of connectivity options on the Fossil Gen 6. The Fossil Gen 6 possesses the Bluetooth v5 LE, Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC SE and comes with support for Google Assistant. The smartwatch is charged using a 4 pin USB with a magnetic puck that supports fast charging. You can also connect the smartwatch with Android and iOS devices and receive and make calls while connected.

Galaxy Watch 4

  • Beidou may not be available in certain regions.

Fossil Gen 6 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 vs. TicWatch Pro 3: Smartwatch Features

The Fossil Gen 6

The Fossil Gen 6 is compatible with Android phones and iPhones. When it comes to setting up Fossil Gen 6, Fossil uses Google's main Wear OS app.

With the Gen 6, it's very much Wear OS 2. That's down to the UI, the app menu and support for features like Google Pay, notifications, a music player and getting to things like Google Assistant with a microphone and speaker both on board. Fossil adds some of its own touches here, particularly with the watch faces included and the reworked fitness and health tracking screens. There's the tease of Amazon Alexa integration, but that's currently not live yet.

Galaxy Watch 4

The Watch 4 only works with Android phones. When it comes to setting up Watch 4, Samsung still uses its own Galaxy Wearable companion app.

With the Watch 4, it still feels like Samsung's Tizen OS on the exterior with elements of Wear thrown in. There's less emphasis on the rotating bezel and you do have the presence of Google's apps, Tiles (widgets) and the Play Store.

You're getting similar things from the Watch 4, with additional features like LTE connectivity, the option of Samsung or Google Pay support and more in the way of how you can respond and deal with notifications.

TicWatch Pro 3

TicWatch Pro 3 is compatible with Android phones and iPhones.

The TicWatch Pro 3 raises the bar for Wear OS-based hardware with great battery life and performance. But the TicWatch Pro 3’s overall quality as a smartwatch is hindered by the lack of love shown to Wear OS. It’s long overdue a major update. The number of genuinely useful apps is on the low side, and Assistant integration isn’t as elegant as Android phones or even Assistant-enabled headphones.

Verdict: Which One is Right For You?

If you are into health and fitness, the Samsung is certainly the most interesting, thanks to its Samsung BioActive Sensor. You have the usual heart rate and SPO2 measurements, along with sleep/steps/calories and all the other features you get on wearables now. However, they also have an ECG, blood pressure monitoring, and body composition. Some of the features are restricted to users with Samsung phones.

The TicWatch is massive, and the main feature would be its dual display which has an old fashioned digital black and white display allowing you to switch it to essential mode and giving you a significantly longer battery life.

Fossils’s main selling point would be the wide range of designs that are available. Allowing you to have a smartwatch that looks a bit more fashionable.

Overall, these three watches have their own advantages, and how to choose depends on your own preferences.
