Hydro Flask was founded in 2009 by Travis Rosbach and his then-girlfriend, Cindy Weber, due to his dissatisfaction with commercial water bottles. It was formally known as Steel Technologies LLC.The brand became very popular during mid-late 2019 and early 2020, particularly among millennials, members of Generation Z, and members of the "VSCO girl" subculture.

Hydro Flask is the rare mom-and-pop brand that won the hearts and minds of America’s youths and celebrities — after it sold out to a global conglomerate. And its success hinges on its ability to help its owner make not just a fashion statement but perhaps also a political one.

Hydro Flask makes great insulated, travel-friendly drinkware that is durable and easy to carry. Its bottles come in a range of colors and maintain your hot or cold drink temperatures for hours. Nearly everyone  has a Hydro Flask they love.

S'well is a reusable water bottle and insulated products company headquartered in Manhattan, New York. Sarah Kauss founded the company in 2010 and was the company's CEO until 2020. At a time when sustainable products weren’t stylish and stylish products weren’t sustainable, she created the world’s first reusable hydration accessory. A beautiful form that fused function with fashion to make doing the right thing a crave-worthy experience.

S’well makes innovative, reusable stainless steel bottles and other containers that help to cut down on single-use plastics, helping users achieve an eco-friendly lifestyle. S’well is the only reusable water bottle that looks great and does good. S’well bottles are beautifully crafted and composed of non-leaching and BPA-free, 18/8 stainless steel, keeping drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12.The S’Well line now includes mugs, chillers, barware, accessories, and S’Well personalized water bottles in a range of fashionable patterns and colors.

If you're looking for a well-designed bottle that keeps cold liquids cold and hot drinks hot, the S'well is by far the best option, despite it being a bit pricey and marked by a few critical shortcomings.

About Klean Kanteen

Klean Kanteen

Source:kleankanteen.com

Back in 2002, there were no stainless steel water bottles for personal hydration, and the health and environmental issues linked to plastic use were not widely known. Seeing the issues early and clearly, Robert Seals, the inventor and founder of Klean Kanteen, began cobbling together the first prototype with things he bought at the local hardware store in Chico, California. In 2004, Robert introduced the 27oz Klean Kanteen onto the market to give people a better option than plastic and lined aluminum bottles: a safe, healthy, lightweight, reusable bottle free of Bisphenol A (BPA) and other toxic substances.

The Klean Kanteen Classic is a relatively inexpensive option, especially considering the bottle's durability and versatility. For a non-plastic bottle that is lightweight, portable, easy to clean, and easy to use, we found the Klean Kanteen to be a bottle of excellent value overall.

Hydro Flask vs. Yeti vs. S'well vs. Klean Kanteen:Comparison Side by Side

1. Insulation

Hydro Flask - Hydro Flask bottles are built with double-wall insulation, Hydro Flask uses TempShield insulation. Their bottles are able to keep cold drinks cold for up to 24 hours and keep hot drinks hot for up to 12 hours. And this is true for both standard and wide-mouth bottles. So, in terms of insulation, Hydro Flask has the same standard for all of its bottles.

Yeti - YETI Tundras have up to 3 inches of polyurethane foam insulation, which is significantly more than most common ice chests. If you use enough ice to chill the walls, YETI will most definitely outperform the competition.Yeti tumblers are made of vacuum sealed stainless steel. The vacuum is what keeps out the majority of the heat by stopping heat conduction and convection. ... All of these elements combined with a plastic lid (another insulator) allow the tumblers to keep beverages cold or hot for so long.

S’well - Because of their triple-wall insulation build, S’well bottles perform slightly better when it comes to keeping hot drinks hot. If you’ll be using this frequently for hot drinks, you might prefer the performance of S’well bottles. But the performance is only marginally better, so we don’t see this as a dealbreaker.

Klean Kanteen - Klean Kanteen has the same double-walled design using the same 18/8 stainless steel with Hydro Flask.Klean Kanteen, on the other hand, uses Climate Lock insulation. For their classic bottles, they promise to retain temperature up to 20 hours for hot drinks, and up to 50 hours for iced drinks. But that’s a bit too good to be true. Realistically, you can get about 12 hours for a hot drink with a Klean Kanteen bottle, which is still better than what Hydro Flask has to offer.

If you plan on only using your bottle to keep water or other drinks cold temperature, either brand will work perfectly for you. But if you are looking for a bottle that will keep coffee, hot chocolate, cider, and other hot beverages warm pretty much all day, the S’well or Klean Kanteen insulated will be a better choice.

2. Durability

Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen - Durability When it comes to Hydro Flask vs Klean Kanteen is fairly equal. As mentioned above, both bottles are made out of the same durable materials. The high-quality 18/8 stainless steel is resistant to dents and will stay looking great even after wear and tear. You can expect some scratches if you use it constantly, from accidental drops and the effects of daily life, but you’d really have to purposely abuse these bottles to damage them.

Hydro Flask also uses a powder coat that promises a sweat-free grip and an exceptionally durable bottle. But the issue with Klean Kanteen’s design is that the lid can get damaged or warped, which really impacts the leak proofing of the bottle. With extended use, this can really become an issue.

Yeti - The Yeti is made of 18/8 stainless steel and is puncture proof and rust resistant. Both bottles have claims not tainting the taste of beverages and have an easy grip that ensures you won’t drop it.And YETI lid is stronger because it has more threading.

S’well - S’well bottle is made to be durable, drop resistant, and is made of 18/8 stainless steel. It is designed to fit well in the handle and not be a heavy bottle, even when full. But there are a few reviews for S'well bottles complaining about the paint coming off easily and the bottles denting easily.

3.Visual Design

Hydro Flask - Hydro Flask has a range of colors to choose from and has the great option of a tough but attractive powder coating. When it comes to color vividity, Hydro Flask has a bit of an edge. But Hydro Flask bottles just come in block colors. Though some of the sizes offer up to 15 color choices, none of the designs are as unique or interesting as those on the S’well bottles.

Yeti - The Yeti also comes in a nice variety of colors and even lets you go with a standard stainless steel look, if you choose. They, however, don’t have any designs or themes on any of their bottles.

S’well - S’well produces bottles which have really quirky, unique patterns which many people like – if you want something that can double up as a fashion accessory, S’well bottles are perhaps the better choice. They have metallic finishes, floral designs, tie-dye patterns, print patterns, and more. The S’well bottle is available in several different colors and designs. This ranges from your basic colors to floral designs and they just recently added sports themed bottles and some Disney’s Frozen 2.The many color choices S’well offers make S’well one of the best gifts for outdoorsy people.

Klean Kanteen - Klean Kanteen has a matte satin finish and also has a range of colors to choose from.Klean Kanteen has a lot of limited edition bottle designs.

It’s difficult to say which bottle looks better because it is a matter of personal preference.

4.Pricing

Hydro Flask - The cheapest narrow-mouth bottle by Hydro Flask is just under $30, and it’s the standard 18 oz bottle. But when you look at the other bottles, Hydro Flask starts to pull ahead. Especially with wide mouth bottles – not only do they offer more size variety in this particular range, but they also offer better pricing.

Yeti - Yeti coolers are slightly cheaper (around $5-$10) for the smaller sizes of 26 oz and under. But they are more expensive for the larger sizes of 40 oz and 64 oz. than other brands.

S’well - Swell’s flagship products are just marginally more costly than Hydro Flask’s, but they are far more capable. With these products, Swell also offers their S’ip jar, a less expensive alternative that’s still produced depending on their high standards.

Klean Kanteen - The cheapest Klean Kanteen bottle with a narrow mouth costs just a little under $30, but it has a greater capacity (20 oz).So, even though the KK regular bottles are a bit more expensive, they’re ultimately a better value for money because you’re getting a bigger bottle.

The ultimate winner here really depends on the type of bottle you’re looking to buy.

5. Cleaning

Hydro Flask - Hydro Flask bottles are a bit easier to wash up, as a number of these feature wide-mouth layouts, which make them accessible for cleaning.

Yeti - Yeti, on the other hand, can be washed by hand and is dishwasher safe. This gives the Yeti a slight edge on its competition.

S’well - S’well bottles are a little more awkward because of how they’re tapered. To properly clean your S’well bottle, it’s a good idea to buy a long-necked bottle brush. You can buy them on the S’well website, but cheaper options are available in other places.

Klean Kanteen - Some models from Klean Kanteen are safe for dishwashers, which is a big pro.

6. Bottle Size

When it comes to the shear range of sizes, Hydro Flask offers the most options. With seven different volume bottles, including both narrow and wide mouth varieties, it's easy to find the right size bottle from Hydro Flask.

In comparison, size options are much more limited from both YETI, Swell and Klean Kanteen.

The Conclusion

They have similar features and offer you a means of having your choice of beverage, hot or cold for 12-24 hours, making it great for the adventurer and also the office worker, as well.

Whether it is the color scheme, a name, or if you need a bigger bottle or a smaller one, you can find one that is just right for you and your day to day activities amont the four brands. In the end, it comes down to what exactly you are looking for and what will better suit your needs because both brands offer durable, efficient water bottles that would be great for anyone.
