Elemis Cleansing Balm vs. Clinique vs. Eve Lom vs. Farmacy Green Clean: Which is the Best?
- As well as cleansing your skin to get rid of grime, a good cleansing regime will also provide you with a good base for the rest of your skincare products to work even harder. Cleansing balms are a great addition to any skin-care routine because they can remove grime, sunscreen, and oil-soluble makeup (think waterproof mascara) while providing intense moisture to the skin’s barrier. They’re also an especially great choice for those with dry or sensitive skin. Here, four cult favorites of cleansing balms in the market are Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, Eve Lom Cleanser, Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, and Farmacy Green Clean Make Up Meltaway Cleansing Balm. Which is the best? Below, we will make a comparison to help you choose.

Review: It has a buttery texture that melts instantly into an oil on contact with dry skin and feels like a mini spa treatment in your bathroom. Thanks to its thick consistency, a little goes a long way. Mineral oil free, paraben and SLS free – good almond oil base. Gives a great massage medium for second cleanse – or only cleanse if you aren't wearing a lot of eye makeup. When you do, what you are left with is beautifully soft, clean skin.

Review: While its balm-to-oil texture may put some people off, it shouldn't – even if you have oily skin. The oil feels nourishing on the skin and once you've washed it away, you aren't left with a greasy residue. It also doesn't leave skin feeling tight, either – just fresh and clean so you can go on to the next steps of your at-home skin routine.
| Eve Lom Cleanser

Eve Lom: $80/100ml (up to 5% cashback)
Dermstore: $80 (up to 7% cashback)

This multi-award-winning cult classic does it all - literally melting away make up and grime as it exfoliates, brightens and tones. The multi-purpose balm has been expertly balanced to suit all skin types, and combines the brand's signature blend of four aromatic plant oils (Clove, Eucalyptus, Hops and Egyptian Chamomile) to promote glowing, radiant, smoother-looking skin. And combined with the included muslin cloth, it exfoliates, tones and improves circulation.
Pros | Cons |
Deep cleanses without drying or stripping the skin and removes even the most stubborn of waterproof make-upx | Very expensive |
Signature Eve Lom massage technique helps drain toxins and decongests | Main ingredient is mineral oil |
Exfoliates and improves circulation when combined with the specially woven Muslin Cloth
Softens and conditions the skin |
Best for: Designed to be used on all skin types and, due to its great make-up removal abilities, is particularly good as the first step in a double cleanse.
Review: One of the first balm cleansers on the market, sold alongside a muslin cloth for removing it, it remains the hero product of the Eve Lom brand. The texture is rather thick, but it melts easily upon contact with the fingers and skin. It also has a grainy texture but the "grains" are definitely non-abrasive, it actually feels really soft. It seems to be mostly mineral oil from looking at the ingredients, which is fairly inert. It's slightly exfoliating when used with the cloth.
| Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm
Google Users Rating: 4.6/5
Farmacy Beauty: $34/100ml (up to 5% cashback)
Sephora: $34 (up to 4% cashback)
QVC: $34 (up to 4% cashback)
Perfect for helping you melt away the day's dirt, grime, and makeup, the Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm leaves the skin feeling hydrated and silky smooth. Made with papaya extract to gently exfoliate and retexture the skin, and sunflower and ginger root oils to remove even the most stubborn of eye and face makeup without drying the skin. The balm transforms from a sorbet like solid into a luxe milky lather with a refreshing scent of lime, bergamot, and orange.
Pros | Cons |
Removes longwearing and waterproof makeup formulas | Contains essential oils that may be irritants |
Silky soft feeling on the skin
Massages into the skin easily
Removes makeup well and washes off easily
Comes with a spatula for application
Cruelty free, paraben free and 100% recyclable jar |
Best for: All skin types.
Review: It is a soft (almost cream-like) , solid oil that is housed in jar. The lid holds a mini spatula that comes handy for scooping out the small amount of product you need to remove your makeup. Moreover, it is super gentle and hydrating and does not leave an oily residue. An added bonus is that the mix of essential oils smell pretty incredible while they work, but if your skin is sensitive to essential oils, you should probably avoid this product.
