15 Essential Items to Bring on a Bermuda Cruise + What NOT to Pack for
This is one of those places you imagine when daydreaming about a beach vacation. The Bahamas is the epitome of a luxury vacation destination, a destination characterized by blindingly white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, coconuts, an abundance of sunshine and limitless cocktails. So planning a Bahamas cruise vacation? But not sure what essential items you should pack for or what you'd better not to bring. Here, we’ve provided the checklist and information below to help you pack for your exceptional Bahamas cruise experience.
1. Casual Clothes
Include trousers/pants, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses. And you'd better bring some quick-drying cover ups or pair of shorts. Because some shore excursions involve getting a little wet and wild, you’ll want a cover-up (or change of clothes), so you can ride back to the ship dry and comfortable.
2. Semi-Formal Clothes and Dress Shoes
On a typical seven-day cruise, you’ll have two nights of dressing up for dinner or other special events. We suggest a semi-formal dress or skirt and blouse for women and a dark suit for men. The remaining dinners on the cruise are informal (blouse and pants for women; collared shirt with trousers for men). Keep in mind that T-shirts, shorts or tank tops are not permitted in the dining room.
3. Water Shoes
Water shoes aren’t just for kids, you know. This handy set of footwear is perfect for exploring rocky beaches where you don’t want to cut up your feet, but you also don’t want to ruin your good sneakers. Be prepared for any type of terrain when you slip into a pair of water shoes.
4. Umbrella or Rain Coat
The weather in this area of the world is unpredictable, but many northeast cities get 3 to 4 inches of rain during the fall months. Consider bringing rain gear or a small umbrella so that you are prepared for whatever weather that you might encounter!
5. Toiletries
Pack them in a sealed, clear plastic bag inside and put them into your luggage. While many cruise lines offer complimentary shampoo and conditioner in stateroom bathrooms, they aren’t likely to be the products you use at home. I suggest you bring your own shampoo, conditioner and of course, your hair care products. I also recommend bringing a travel-sized air freshener for the bathroom – there isn’t a lot of ventilation and you can’t simply open the window like you would at home. Don’t forget to bring a razor and shaving cream if you’re going on a longer cruise!
6. Hat, Sunglasses, Sunscreen and After-Sun Lotion
I recommend bringing at least one bottle of sunscreenblock per person in your party. Whether you’re spending the day at the pool or laying on the beach during a shore excursion, you’ll go through more sunscreen than you can imagine! You can also bring a bottle of after-sun soothing aloe gel, just in case you get sunburned. If you burn easily, this is a must to help you heal quickly. You might also want to bring along a sun hat or a visor, especially for children who will spend all day in the sun! It’s much easier to prevent a sunburn than it is to deal with one. Obviously, don't forget your sunglasses.
7. Waterproof Cell Phone Case
Waterproof phone pouch(cellphone dry bag) offers waterproof function when swimming, rafting, and boating, snow proof function when snowing, skiing, dirt proof and dustproof when on beach, in cave or mud run.
8. Camera (Underwater Camera)
Do you want to capture amazing photos and videos on land and at sea? Don't forget your camera. If you are going on a cruise and plan to go snorkeling, scuba diving, or to a water park. I suggest bringing a waterproof camera.
9. Binoculars
Sure, you don’t have to bring these, but with the amazing views you’ll encounter on deck and from your stateroom window or balcony, you’ll be really glad you can get a closer look.
10. Portable Charger
Cameras, smartphones and tablets aren’t much fun when their juice is gone. Make sure you bring device chargers and a portable charger that lets you charge on the go.
11. Portable Fan
For the hot afternoons in the Bermuda heat, you might need a little help cooling off. This small device can attach to your iPhone to provide a little breeze in any environment. Just plug this portable fan into your phone, and it will work off the power supply.
12. Bags
Resealable plastic bags, reusable shopping bags, beach bag or tote bag. When you leave the ship for a beach-day shore excursion, you’ll want something to carry your beach items in. Bring a tote bag or back pack from home so that you aren’t stuck juggling towels, sunscreen and your book! A tote bag also comes in handy if you want to do a little shopping at the cruise port. It’s much easier to throw everything you purchase into a tote bag than struggle to carry around several shopping bags.
13. Medications for Upset Stomach and Motion Sickness
I recommend packing a small first aid-style kit full of your common medications like pain relievers, upset stomach medication, anti-diarrhea, Benedryl (if you suffer from any allergies), and a motion sickness medication. You can also buy Sea Bands, which you wear on your wrists to help combat motion sickness. Most of these things are sold in the cruise shops, but they’re quite expensive compared to what you’d pay at home. Plus, who wants to trudge down to the cruise shops when feeling under the weather?
14. Travel Games
While relaxing around the ship or perhaps on your balcony during a lazy sea day afternoon, you might want a deck of cards or a small travel game to keep you entertained.
15. Cruise Documents and Passport with Separate Photocopy
Last, don't forget that you will need to bring all of your cruise documents and passport. All U.S. citizens, regardless of age, must have a valid, current passport to enter Bermuda. It must have at least one blank page for the stamp you receive when you come through immigration in the airport or when your cruise ship comes to dock. You don't need an additional visa to enter Bermuda.
If you choose the carnival cruises, you don't need to bring food. Carnival cruises usually provide plenty of food and drinks for all passengers, but if you with dietary restrictions or particular tastes should verify that what you want to bring on board is allowed. You can bring food onto Carnival cruises, which must be unopened, prepackaged and ready to eat.
Carry-On
When you board the ship, you’ll want to start having fun right away. So while your luggage is being delivered to your room at an unspecified time on the day of departure, keep the essentials (like a swimsuit, sunscreen, medications and some reading material) close at hand in a lightweight carry-on. It is also suggested that you keep your essential toiletries and a one day change of clothes with you in your carry-on.
Packing Tips
Make certain your suitcase closes and fastens securely. Mark your luggage and carry-on bag clearly with your name and address so you will be able to distinguish them easily. Your personal luggage tags can be used for this purpose or you may use paper tags available at airline check-in counters. We recommend that you put identification information (name, address and phone number) INSIDE your luggage in case the luggage tags on the outside are lost in transit. Do not pack your passport or travel documents in your luggage. It is suggested that you keep a color copy of the information page of your passport inside your luggage in the event that your passport is lost.
