Established in 1980, the Dallas Mavericks have won three division titles, two conference championships and one NBA Finals (2011), and continue to be a major draw at the American Airlines Center. In fact, so popular is the team in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, that, as of the close of the 2017-18 season, the Mavericks had sold out an NBA-best 678 consecutive regular-season home games, an unheard of streak that traces back to Dec. 15, 2001. The Mavs sold out an additional 67 playoff games during that stretch, making it 745 straight sellouts. The Portland Trail Blazers (814 straight sellouts from 1977 to 1995) are the only team with a longer consecutive home sellout streak. See what the buzz is all about; grab your Dallas Mavericks tickets at StubHub.

Dallas had been without an NBA team since 1973, when the Dallas Chaparrals became the San Antonio Spurs. However, in 1979, two businessmen applied for an expansion franchise, and the following year the Mavericks were born. The name was chosen by fans in honor the famed TV show “Maverick” starring James Garner, who happened to be on the ownership board of the new team. The Mavs were admitted to the Midwest Division of the Western Conference, which was dominated at that time by the Spurs and Utah Jazz. Like most expansion teams, Dallas struggled to pick up top-quality players in its first couple of years until an unexpected turn of luck. Brad Davis was a relatively unknown signing, but went on to become one of the best guards in the NBA, playing for the Mavs for 12 seasons. His number, 15, was the first Mavericks number to be retired. Davis is part of an honor roll that includes such Maverick greats as Nowitzki, Derek Harper, Rolando Blackman, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash.

The American Airlines Center, also home to the NHL’s Dallas Stars, is situated in Dallas’ Victory Park neighborhood, adjacent to Interstate 35 East. The Mavs can seat 19,200 for basketball, with additional standing-room tickets also available. Visitors can use the Green or Orange lines on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system, or avail themselves of nearby parking options. The AT&T Plaza, just south of the arena, provides a good meeting point for groups to get together before or after games.
